for 116 yards and two touchdowns, all in the second half.
Add in Couris 101 yards on 15 carries and 72 more from
Gordon and the Tigers rushed for a season-high 289 yards.
It shows were balanced, said Terra Nova coach Tim
Adams. People think were this pass-happy offense and we
dont run the ball.
That balance continued on the scoreboard as the Tigers
rushed for three touchdowns and Gordon threw for three
more.
Terra Novas leading receiver, Scotty Tomei, was held in
check, catching one ball for seven yards. But the combina-
tion of Jackson Kubal, Richard Walls and Mario Fare com-
bined for 16 catches for 213 yards. Kubal led the team with
eight catches for 98 yards and a score, Walls hauled in four
passes for 92 and a touchdown and Fare finished with three
receptions for 23 yards and a score of his own.
Weve spread it around (this season), Adams said. We
didnt get our slots involved much (Friday), but last week
was the opposite.
The game turned in the third quarter after the teams traded
scores in the less than two minutes of the second half. With
Terra Nova leading 28-14, Capuchino (2-3) embarked on a
long, time-consuming drive. Starting from their own 30,
the Mustangs worked the ball down to the Terra Nova 12 and
appeared to cut the Tigers lead to just a touchdown when
Rolando Noble took a hand off a swept over right tackle and
into the end zone for an apparent touchdown.
The score was negated, however, due to a Capuchino
unsportsmanlike penalty. The infraction pushed the
Mustangs back to the Terra Nova 32 and they ended up turn-
ing the ball over on downs.
Terra Nova took over at its own 21 and needed just four
plays to hit pay dirt. After a 28-yard run from Fabiani-Wyatt
on the first play of the drive, he capped it with a 48-yard
touchdown run to give the Tigers a 35-14 advantage.
(If we score) thats 28-21 right there, Nava said of the
negated score. It was a game-changer, for sure.
It was the second long touchdown run of the day for
Fabiani-Wyatt, who went 41 yards for a score on his first
carry.
[Fabiani-Wyatt is] solid, Adams said. Hes a talented
back.
Capuchino got off to a good start. After forcing the Tigers
to turn the ball over on downs on the first drive of the game
near midfield, the Mustangs drove 57 yards on eight plays,
with quarterback Trey Zahursky finding Brandon Mailangi
in the right corner of the end zone to put the Mustangs up 6-
0 after the 2-point conversion try failed.
Zahursky had a strong first half, completing 6 of 8 pass-
es for 79 yards. In the second half, however, he was just 2 of
5 passes and finished the game with 99 yards passing.
Terra Nova looked poised to tie the score on its next drive,
but Couri was stopped for a loss on fourth-and-goal at the 1.
It was a short-lived reprieve for Capuchino, however. The
Tigers forced the Mustangs to punt on their ensuing posses-
sion and Terra Nova went in for the go-ahead touchdown and
extra point, with Gordon finding Kubal with a 10-yard scor-
ing strike with 8:51 left in the first half.
Fabiani-Wyatt picked off a Capuchino pass on the next
possession and Terra Nova needed just six plays to go 75
yards. A 35-yard scramble by Gordon set up the score, when
he found Fare in the back of the end zone for a 14-6 lead.
Terra Nova increased its lead to 21-6 at halftime when Walls
had two long catches during a 55-yard drive the second of
which went for 36 yards and a score.
We have a lot of playmakers, Adams said.
A long Zahursky kickoff return to start the third quarter
gave Cap a short field to work with and the Mustangs scored
their final touchdown of the day on a 14-yard run from J.P.
Kefu.
Kefu finished with 29 yards rushing and added 32 yards on
three receptions.
But the Tigers got the score right back following a long
kickoff return of its own from Walls. The Tigers needed just
one play to push its lead back to three scores, 35-14, when
Fabiani-Wyatt broke off his 41-yard scoring run on the first
play of the drive.
