Foundation Course Lesson 1

Who is Jesus?

Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me. - John 14:6

From the Scripture above we will find out who Jesus said He was using His own words - the way,
the truth and the life. Make sure to turn to the Scriptures given in your Bibles to get used to
knowing where they are in your Bible and mark them out.

Jesus is the Word made flesh, John 1:1 says In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. And Jesus became a human to save us John 1:14 says And
the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. So literally God became man to save us from our
sins.

The Way Jesus is the only way to everlasting life

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

God the Father sent Jesus to pay the penalty for the sins of the world. Sin is all wrong doing like
stealing (taking something thats not yours), lies ( big or small lies), adultery, murder, bad thoughts
about others.

Everyone has sinned, Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. this
means everyone is separated from God because of Sin and cannot go to heaven but will go to hell
because of it.

Jesus never sinned at all, He lived a sinless life, 1 Peter 2:22 says For to this you were called,
because Christ also suffered for us leaving us an example, that you should follow in His steps,
Who commited no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth. He alone is worthy to pay the price
for our sins on the cross.

Jesus died upon the cross, he paid the price so that no man or woman has to go to hell. It was God's
love for the world that He gave his Son. Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His love toward us, in
that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.

Jesus The truth of Everlasting life

Because Jesus was given as the way to everlasting life, also means that He is the truth of it.

John 8:32 - And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

The truth of the Gospel that Jesus came to this earth 2000 years ago, was beaten, mocked, had a
crown of thrones pushed into His head, shed His blood, died upon the cross and three days later rose
from the dead, for all of mankind to save them from their sins and going to hell. Believing this and
accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, sets you free from the bondage of sin and gives you
eternal life.

John 8:36 - Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Foundation Course Lesson 1

This is the promise of Jesus that you will be made free, how we can rejoice in Him!

Jesus The Life of Everlasting Life

John 11:25-26 - Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me,
though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you
believe this?

Because Jesus rose from the dead, He now gives new life to everyone who accepts Him as their
Lord and Saviour. The Resurrection of Jesus is the main part of the belief of the believer. Paul says -
If Christ is not risen, you faith is futile; you are still in your sins! - 1 Corinthians 15:1

But praise Jesus that He is risen and saved us for our sins. And one day when we breath our last,
because He is the Way to God, because He is the Truth of the Gospel and because He did rise from
the dead, we can truly say we shall rise also. Praise Jesus.

Questions

1) Turn to 1 Corinthians 11:23-32. As Christians we take part in the Lord's table in remembrance
of what the Lord Jesus did for us. One reason being taking our sins upon himself, we are told to
judge ourselves when taking part because of sins we commit. Do you judge yourself before taking
it? If not, this is a serious thing some have died because of taking this in the wrong manner, pray
and start asking for forgiveness and see your pastor to instruct you in taking this rightly.

2) Turn to John 10:14. Who is Jesus to you? Is he just your Lord on a Sunday or a church day? Is
He someone who lets you get away with wrong doing? Or is He the Lord of your life, whom you
seek daily and read of His word to know His ways to be more like Him? Are you one of His sheep?
Think carefully and prayerfully, where you spend eternity rests on the fact that if Jesus is your
Saviour or not.

3) Turn to John 6:68. We now have the words of eternal life, as Christians one of the things we are
told to do is to tell others. Do you do this? If not why? Pray about this, do you feel that you lack
power?, or frightened?, no compassion for unsaved? Pray the Holy Spirit will take these obstacles
away from you and to guide you on what to say and do.

4) Turn to Hebrews 4:15-16. Jesus can bear with our weaknesses because He was tempted as we
are. Is there some area your weak in? Or your going through something? A temptation? Because He
can sympathize with us and take oour burdens, Matthew 11:28-30. You can come to the throne of
grace when in need. Right now whatever is happening come before the throne knowing our God is
there in those great times of need.
