The Swan in You
Hello my friend. My name is Siong Boon, your pump attendant at Fuel
Your Passion (www.fuel-your-passion.com), also the author of this book.

First, I would like to acknowledge you for picking up this book to discover
the ways to fuel your passion. This discovery journey that I have, has
helped me live a passion and fulfilling life. I am eager to share my
experiences, so that you too can apply them for your own journey.

Life is a game of choices. This is one of my very first motto in life. It is

like playing a Role-Playing-Game (RPG). We play the game making
decisions, learning knowledge, gaining experience, picking up survival
skills, earning gold nuggets to buy power food and useful magical
weapons. All these to enhance our capability and quality of life, so that
we can be a hero in our game.

The same applies to our real life. We want to make decisions to live a life
that we have always wanted. We want to make a difference to our own
life as well as the life of the people around us. It makes sense to make
the most out of our ONE and Only life.

If there is one thing that I want you to take away after reading this book,
it would be the astonishing power that you always have in your very own
hand. The power to become what you are destined to be. The power to
fuel your passion.

~ Life is a game of choices, choose to win. ~

The Swan in You

This book presents ways to help you unlock the potential power that you
always have in your own hand. Before I carry on further, please allow me
to introduce myself by sharing my personal story. A very long time ago

Passion. A Path of Least Resistance

I live in the north-east side of Singapore. Singapore is a multi-racial
bilingual society. We take English language as our main language, and
our mother tongue as our second language. My language had been my
worst fear during my primary and secondary school education (American
equivalent of 1st-10th Grade). Being a Chinese, I took mandarin as my
second language which majority of my classmates were.

Languages are tough for me. Barely scraping through my exams for both
my English and Chinese. I had never understood how English language is
structured, the grammar, and the other technical jargons (adjectives,
adverbs, etc.) did not make much sense to me. Even till today I am still
having this problem; only slightly better. I am laterally blind to grammar
mistakes. Please bear with me. Appreciate for your tolerance.

I also find it hard to remember how certain word is spelled or

pronounced. Chinese language is even worst, because we must
remember how each symbol is written. Writing and reading those
Chinese characters is even more difficult for me. Other subjects
(Literature, History, etc.) which depends on a good language is also on
my phobia list.

The subjects I had enjoyed was Geometry Mathematics and Design &
Technical (D&T). Numbers makes more sense to me. Science was also

www.fuel-your-passion.com
2
The Swan in You

interesting. If it was not for these interesting subjects, I would probably

see myself as very stupid.

The awareness of my own strength and weakness had an impact on my

confident and the path that I had chosen. When I was given a choice for
a specialized stream, there was no doubt in my mind that I had to go into
the technical stream, because it was the class that has the minimum
number of subjects that I hated. Fortunately, I was granted my choice.
Only English and Chinese languages was all that I needed to tackle. Sadly,
I failed both my English and Chinese during my Olevel school leaving
examination. I got a D7 grade for both.

Failed again after retake my exam.

Fortunately, my other subjects were doing well. Thank God, I was

granted my choice of tertiary education. I was enrolled to the school of
Electronic, Computer and Communication Engineering at Singapore
Polytechnic. The mystery of electronic got me curious about the subject.
I know I would enjoy it because there are NO MORE Language Exams!!!
All the subjects look alien but interesting to me.

Polytechnic education was probably one of the best gift I had as a

teenager. Before I joined the school, I always had this limiting belief that
I am not good in studying. Every year, I would worry about my English
score because a failure would mean that I had to repeat for another year
of school. I always had to go through a heavy heart to bring back my

www.fuel-your-passion.com

The Swan in You

report card for my mother to sign. My grades were below average. I dont
have too much expectation for my exams. That was the past.

Polytechnic is a more hands-on oriented education. It was a very new

and cool experience for me. I was looking forward going to school every
day. Practical lab sessions and lecture classes were fun and easy to
follow. There is no stress but fun when you are enjoying yourself.

Exams results for our first semester were out. There was no more report
card to bring home for my mother to sign. I felt so much freedom. Our
results were pinned to the notice board just outside our school
administration office. I was searching for my name praying not to fail for
a tough subject Analog Electronics. It was a surprise moment when I
saw my results. I got two distinctions, two As and a B. I got an A for
that tough subject that I thought I would fail, and a B was for my Report
Writing and Presentation. There had had not a thought in me that I
would get such a good result. I was among the very top in my class. I
became much confidence in myself, believing that it must be the new fun
environment that I was in that helped me to excel.

The next semester continues. We were introduced to a new subject call

C programming. It is a computer language that programmers use for
developing software on computer. I was very curious on this subject and
had managed to finish my very first programming book C for dummies
even before our 2nd semester starts. It was love at first sight, finished
reading the book within a few days. Programming subject became my
legendary subject. Anything related to programming, I would easy score
a distinction without much revision at all. I often make fun of myself
being destined for computer language and not human languages.
www.fuel-your-passion.com
4
The Swan in You

Programming language has become a second nature to me. I always

believed that I am probably wired differently.

~ Excellent comes naturally when we are doing

what we love; passionate thing ~ - Siong Boon
At the end of the course, I was among the top 5% percent in my school.
I invited my mother for my graduation ceremony.

My mom was probably wondering about my exam results, because she

had never got a chance to see. For the first time, I presented my
academic transcript to my mother with pride. I felt a bit puzzled when I
saw her gloomy face when she saw my transcript. Not what I was
expecting. She finally opened her mouth You got so many Ds. She was
saying that my grades sucks. It was that very moment that I understood
what she was seeing. Controlling my urge to laugh, I told her, those were
not D, those are DIST which stands for distinction, a score for
outstanding which is even better than A. I had earned myself distinction
for about 50% of the subjects that I had took. There were more DIST than
there were A and B.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
5
The Swan in You

There was an emotional contrast that I felt from her question. It

reminded me of who I was before, and where I was then. She was still
perceiving my old-self who had never achieved a good grade. It was a
kind of grateful and a touching moment for me.

When we are in the journey moving towards succeed, we will probably

not feel those small little improvements that happens inside ourselves
every single day. But over a period, when you start to look back at your
achievement, you can see clearer the changes that happens in you.

Life is like that, you work hard each day, you get some small result. You
probably will not be able to feel a difference between today and
yesterday. Like our body, we are not so aware of the small changes to
our development and aging face on a daily basis.

Every one of us has our own talent unique to us. It is our own duty to find
the swan in ourselves. Nobody will do it for you.

~ Everybody is a genius. But if you

tree, it will live its whole life

Do what we are passionate about. Doing things that we enjoy every day
can direct us to the path of excellent. Problems can seem easier to
overcome when you are having fun and enjoying yourself. Passion can
help you to persevere in times of difficulty without much sweat.

I was able to enroll into university after my polytechnic education. My

results were terrible in university. The school was probably not as fun as
before.

Dyslexia is Beautiful
I dont know what is dyslexia until one day. I came across an article
featuring Sir Richard Branson, a very rich and famous entrepreneur, the
founder of Virgin Group.

~ How dyslexia made me a better

businessman. ~ - Sir Richard Branson
Then I saw dyslexia being associated with him.
Being a newbie entrepreneur myself, wanting to learn about successful
people, this word caught my attention. It must be an important trait of a
successful person, I was thinking to myself. The very next moment, I was
already google-ing for the word, and came to a page that describe talks
about dyslexia.

My jaw drops. I was reading the article as if I was reading my biography.

It matches about 90% of my own frustration since young. I had only
known myself as an introvert. I had recognized that I was simply unique
and different from other people. Dyslexia family was calling out to me,

www.fuel-your-passion.com
7
The Swan in You

telling me that I am not alone. I was very excited reading about my new
identity.

Dyslexia is a known medical condition. Dys meaning poor and lexia

meaning language. No wonder throughout my life, I was struggling with
human languages. Comparing to a typical human, people with dyslexia
will have the following problems in life,

Difficulty spelling words

Speech problem
Problems expressing themselves
Slow writing speed
Poor handwriting
Confused by letters, words sequences, or verbal explanation.
Spells phonetically and inconsistently.
Difficulty putting thoughts into words; speaks in halting phrases;
leaves sentences incomplete; stutters under stress; mispronounces
long words, or transposes phrases/words/syllables when speaking.
Confusion of left and right
Poor memory for sequences, facts and information that has not
been experienced.
Thinks primarily with images and feeling, not sounds or words (little
internal dialogue).
Can be class clown, trouble-maker, or too quiet.
Unusually high or low tolerance for pain.
Strong sense of justice; emotionally sensitive; strives for perfection.

I dont find it easy to write good English. A paragraph of texts can

typically take me about 30-60 minutes to write. Fortunately, in this era
there are wonderful technologies to aid my language lacking. Searching

www.fuel-your-passion.com
8
The Swan in You

for words that matches what I have in mind, getting my spelling correct
and correcting all my grammar mistakes with an internet connection.

This is a long list of my flaws, yet I was not sad but very excited and
happy. I had been living for the past 30 over years without being aware
of this condition. It is like discovering myself once more, knowing that I
am not the only weird person on earth. This also explained my younger
days when I was struggling with my languages. I found the swan in me.

The best part of all, many of the famous and success people in history
belongs to this family. I am so proud to be part of this family.

Sir Richard Branson is not the only successful people having a dyslexic
medical condition. There are many other well-known successful people
who had made a difference to our world like Steve Jobs (Apple), Albert
Einstein (E=MC2), Thomas Edison (light bulb inventor), Walt Disney
(Mickey Mouse), Steven Spielberg (Famous Movie Director), Tom Cruise
(Famous Actor), John Lennon (The Beatles), John F.Kennedy (President
of the United States), and many more, having the same condition. We
belong to the same family! I screamed inside my heart. That was how
excited I was that day. It was unimaginable. I am not alone and have a
family.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
9
The Swan in You

This has given me a strong reason telling me that any born defect is not
going to limit my potential to be successful in life. I dont have any
excuses not to be successful.

Give yourself no excuses to give up. Look for your swans. Look for people
who was where you are now and achieve success in their life. Find the
group of people that can fuel you with strength. They are a powerful
source of fuel to inspire you with confident to pursue your passion.

Dont let others dictate who you are. Dont let your past holds you back
to what you want to become.

Every challenge that you face in life will help you discover something
more about yourself. Belief in becoming the good version of yourself.
There are more swans to discover, so keep on discovering the real you.

The swan discovery journey is just like walking towards the stadium to
watch your favorite sports or game. At the beginning of your journey you
may walk alone. As you walk nearer and nearer to the stadium, you will
start to see more and more people who are as enthusiastic and
passionate as you are, walking towards the same direction, having the
same intent as you do. You will know you have found your family the
moment you step into the stadium. Keep going. Along the way, look out
for the swan family.

Each one of us is a unique individual. We get excited over different stuffs

in life. Some people become alive when they are outdoor doing
adventure activities, other engross in art and design expressing their
themselves. Every one of us has something inside us that will energize us
up. That is your passion.

Casting Web
~ Spider cast web to catch their prey for food.
The bigger the web a spider casted,
the higher the chance of catching their food. ~
Casting Web is all about being prepared, getting ready with the ground
work done, so that when an opportunity comes along, you are able to
catch hold of it.

Opportunities are like the many flies flying above your head. They are
everywhere. You want to catch them for dinner. If you do nothing, you
will just see your food flying past you. Sometimes you dont even get to
see them. If you want dinner, then you need to cast your web.

Casting web was one of those idea that got me started to do something
for myself. I knew that opportunity will not land itself right in front of
me. There must be something I need to do in order for opportunities to
come to me. The idea of a catchment net slowly gets into my mind. I need
to do something for myself.

Being in a close group of friends had kept me in complacent mode. We

talk about ideas doing business but it never got started. No one had real
experience doing business. Nothing much was done.

One night after one of our usual passionate discussion, I decided to tell
myself this pattern of life shouldnt go on. If I wanted to do something,
then I should just start it up myself. Just do it. I dont have a great idea
what to do, so I decide to do what I know, electronic engineering.
Casting Web

Casting 1st Web

That very night, I decided that I needed to register a business first before
the year ends in a couple of weeks time. With that very commitment
that I had, everything starts to flow naturally. I start to think about how
to register a business. Then I had also realized that I need an office
address. There were a lot of fears in me.

Just before the year ends, I managed to register my very business online
with a few clicks on my computer. Oh, so business register was actually
so simple. I thought to myself. Immediately, something amazing happen
to my physiology. That intense fear instantly vanished, and a sense of
freedom came rushing in to fill up the vacuum.

It was a sense of freedom that gave me back my power to do something

for my life. Suddenly I was like knowing whats the next step I should do.
Before I know it, I was already looking for an office phone/fax number so
that I could start printing my business card to introducing my business.

These are natural instinct for survival. You will know what you should do
next. Without a goal, your mind can be wondering around not knowing
what to do. Once you commit to a goal, you will naturally know what to
do next. You have a destination, you will do things that will help you to
reach the destination. It is like pushing yourself off the cliff, and your
natural reflexes will take over the driver seat to make sure that you will
survive.

A registered business is a basic web which can allow me to engage with

customers. My mind was constantly thinking of ideas to attract
customers for my business. I need a bigger web for more opportunities.

Casting Online Web

The next logical step that I did was to setup a business website. A website
is like your personal salesman working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,
helping you to sell your products and services to the whole world at a
very affordable cost. I just need to spend that one-time effort and the
site will be there 24hrs online converting the traffic into your customers.

A website helps my customer clear their doubt, so that by the time they
contact me through my website, they are already more or less
committed for an order. It is productive because I am spending less time
to answer similar enquiries from the customers. Website also became a
tool for me to filter the type of customers that I am able to serve well.

The best part is that if you are doing your website correctly, the traffic
that you received will not cost you additional monthly expenses. You can
use SEO (search engine optimization) to bring in organic traffic (nature
customer traffic source from search engine). You instantly get that
opportunity to connect your new business to the people all over the
world. If you have more budget, you can also go for paid traffic which is
buying for more traffic to go to visit your website.

As a small business having a low-cost platform which you can leverage

upon as a marketing tool is a very big advantage. Building a website was
a very suitable choice for me when I got started. It only cost me less than
a hundred bucks to own a website for a year. Besides low startup cost
and it remove the sales task that I had hated doing.

I was an engineer who knows how to deliver electronic projects but knew
nothing about business, view marketing negatively, dislike networking

www.fuel-your-passion.com
13
Casting Web

with people and very fearful of selling. Probably it was because I had a
limiting belief that I could not speak well. I cant present myself and
communicate confidently. Having a website is just a perfect solution for
me because I could stay comfortable behind my website and focus on
doing what I do best, to deliver quality engineering work to my
customers.

By chance of luck, the website that I had built was of a very niche
business. Thats was why I got rank number one easily on google search
page. There were literally no competitors. What I really mean is that
there were some competitions in the industry, but it was difficult for
their potential customers to locate them on the internet.

Not all type of businesses is as lucky as I was. A business website building

is important, but doing it correctly is even more important. Later on
through my journey, I went to learn from successful people in the area
of SEO to learn how to build a website to get me more income.

When the business starts operating, you may need to acquire more
assets equipment and tools to improve your operation and productivity.
There are many more ways to cast your web bigger and bigger which can
allow you to capture business opportunities. Keep exploring and look out
for more ways to cast your web bigger. Cast the web that suits your
passion.

Besides physical web, there is also a mental web.

Casting Mental Web

It not difficult to know the importance of building a website, doing
marketing work; the bigger the web, the more opportunities you can
capture. Casting a strong web is equally or more important. This is what
I call a mental web.

Mental web is like a stronger web or a second layer of web. With a bigger
web now, you can capture more opportunities passing through you. But
if your web is weak, you can only capture small opportunities; big
opportunity will just fly right through it. You probably will not notice it
slipping through your own hand. One particular incident helped me see
my own flaw.

A client found my business through my website and needed external help

to assemble enclosure for their LCD screen as they have little experience
in handling the assembly of an electronic circuit board. From the photos,
the assembly task looks simple. The details were not discussed, but I
know that they need 100 sets. I dont see much value add from me doing
the simple assembly work, so I shared this opportunity with my partners
who is specialized in mechatronic. Together we had had a first meeting
with this client.

During the meeting, we started to discuss the details. Soon I realised

these were not small size LCD screen assembly which I had had thought
they were. Each screen was a huge 80 inch screen. My guts shrank. I had
response to the client in a shaky voice. I assured the client that we could
work out a proposal to them, but I did not have a slightest clue how to
do this project.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
15
Casting Web

The space alone for the project would requires a big space which we do
not had. We need additional work force just to temporary tide out for
this project. The value of assembly work is much lower than the cost of
the screen. Any damage to the raw screen during the assembly process
can easily wipe away our labour work. The math doesnt work out. My
minds were full of reasons, telling me the slim chances of taking up this
project.

After our client meeting, my partners suggest a quick discussion about

this project at a nearby Macdonald restaurant. During our own
discussion, I realized they were thinking very differently from me. They
were thinking of ways to make this project possible. They were thinking
of renting temporary spaces, buying insurance to cover for the foreseen
risk, etc I was actually paying attention and learning from them. Their
thoughts blew my mind, because just 10 minutes ago this project seems
impossible to me, and now it became so feasible. My mind flip from
negative to positive in that instant.

This was an important lesson for me. Many lessons that I had learned
here. A master can teach me all his superior skills to bring me lots of
opportunities, but if my mind is not prepared to take in big opportunity,
the opportunity would just be slipped away right in front of me. I am
wondering how many opportunities had I missed out in the past.

My vision was too small, thats why I always get small results. I have
never thought about clinching a big deal. When such big deal came into
my life, I had no idea how to handle it. Many excuses were flowing into
my mind. Eventually fear starts to build up and resulted me rejecting an

www.fuel-your-passion.com
16
Casting Web

opportunity. Rejecting a big deal doesnt change my life much because it

was not inside my plan in the first place.

My partners were thinking bigger than me. They knew how high they
want to reach. When a big opportunity came before their eyes, they
would want to seize it, and therefore kept looking for a solution. They
were aware where the opportunity can bring them to.

Casting a strong mental web is very important. It is your desire. Your

desire to be a millionaire, billionaire. A desire to buy a big house, luxury
car. A desire to be successful. When a tough opportunity which matches
your desires dash into your life, you will automatically find ways to make
it work for you. You mind will be more receptive of the given
opportunities.

On the other hand, if your desire is low, when a big and tough
opportunity come into your life, you may unknowingly justify it with
excuses why you shouldnt do it, and continue to live the life that you are
expecting.

Casting mental web is as simple as listing down your big goal. It is needed
to ensure your mind can accept the given opportunity. If your mental
web is not big and strong, no matter how much opportunities are
presented in front of you, you will not be able to see it. It is also a key to
open up our mind for the reception of wealth.

The Everlasting Fire
Everlasting Fire? All I had knew was flickering
fire when I was starting out my business. It was emotional. One moment
I could be working passionate on my clients project, another moment I
was kind of demoralized having nothing on hand to do, scratching my
head looking for ways to find more opportunities. It was like a roller
coaster ride. Doubt would cast over me, and I would start to feel
uncertain about myself and wonder if I had made a stupid decision to
start a business. I am quite an optimistic person, so each time I would
found a reason to convince myself to hold on.

When I had left my last job for my own business, my uncle (fathers
younger brother) invited me to help in his new energy saving lighting. I
was expecting my own business to be sluggish in the beginning, and it
would be better off spending time to learn some business stuffs with
him. On the other hand, I also wanted to reserve my time to handling
unexpected opportunities. So, I had offered to work and learn in his
company for 6 months without any salary. It was a crazy decision but I
think it was a fair offer. Unexpectedly, this deal turns out to be my life
transformational learning experience.

For the first time after being with myself for 33 years, I discovered a gem
hiding at a corner inside my mind. I didnt know a superstar was hidden
inside me. I didnt know I could sell like a champion.
The Everlasting Fire

I cant do talking
Because I was someone who dont enjoy talking in front of a group, doing
presentation. My language has always been a root problem for me. I
have a limited vocabulary that I can use on-the-fly, have problem
pronouncing words correctly. My brain takes more time to process.

Every time when I had to present my homework in tutorial class stand in

front of my classmate, my fear would overwhelm me, and my mind
would completely be blank. When I was in my first job, I had difficulty
doing small talks with colleagues during our break. Communication
relating to work was not much a problem for me. Anything other than
work, my mind and mouth would seem to stop working. Writing suits me
better because it is not real time, and I do not have to face people.

It was only till the mid of my 3rd job, I started to open up. Influenced and
learning behaviors from new colleagues. I had learned from them to be
like a joker. It helped me open up to be relax with myself more. I felt
better, but never had the thought of being a salesman myself. Not even
when I had decided to start a business. Selling is simply plain fear for me.

Starting A Fire
Soon I joined my uncles company helping out with the technical aspect
of his energy saving business because this is what I was good at. He will
bring me around to meet customer, and even to do cold sell (attempting
to sell without any appointment). He was very daring and very good at
selling. I had to learn as much as I could because I was trading my time
working free for him. I had paid to learn.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
19
The Everlasting Fire

It was hard for me to accept the reality that this is what a businessman
supposed to do. I do admire his courage and engaging interaction with
the customers. I cant imagine myself doing cold selling, the way he did.
I cant communicate properly and felt more comfortable with my own
way of doing business behind the internet.

Beside the language difficulty that I had, I was also skeptic when I see
sales people. A salesmans job is sell and make money. Pushing product
to consumer for their purpose of earning an income. Yes, it was just sales
person making a living, but I would completely be switched off when they
started selling me something. I had no idea why, my mind would
automatic shutdown. When people wanted to pass me a promotional
leaflet, I would automatic reject it because I knew that the leaflet would
be in a trash bin shortly.

What influences me was the experience that I had when we setup a

booth exhibition at the Expo selling energy saving products. The massive
crowd that I was exposed to, had helped me learn better about myself. I
have realized that I am capable to communicate clearly with the
customers selling things that I am passionate and believe in. My
customers enjoyed listening to my sales pitch.

The Everlasting Fire

With a few tips from my uncle, I was also able to significantly increase
customers engagement. Whenever I approached a customer walking by,
wanting to introduce our product, 9 out of 10 times I would get rejected.
His simple tips were amazing because by changing my opening speech,
the statistic gets inverted. Instead of 1, now I had 9 out of 10 customers
willing to listen to my product introduction.

Knowing or not knowing can make a big difference to your result. There
is a big difference.

~ You dont know what you dont know. ~ - Fabian Lim

Any product that I made the effort to embrace, I would be able to sell it
like hot cakes. I couldnt believe myself, selling can be so simple. I was
overwhelmed by my newly discovered ability to sell during that period.

(There are many things that I want to share in this book. If you want to
read more about the salesmanship that I had learned while working for
my uncle, you can check out my website for more detailed story of How
I discovered my gems? The Salesmanship in Me. I have decided
summaries my sales this into a few paragraphs here because the story is
too long to be in this section.)

Selling wasnt so difficult and so negative as I had thought. In fact, selling

is simple. It is like sharing a very good product to a friend, knowing that
he/she will love it as much as you do. The secret that I learned about
selling is that you have to be truly believe in the product that you are
selling. Once you understand and loved the product, you too can sell like
a professional. Anyone can sell like a superstar.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
21
The Everlasting Fire

During that period, I had remembered a few months back, what my ex-
manager was sharing with me during my exit-interview.

You have to first believe in the product

that you are selling; your customer can feel
what you are telling them. They will know.
He was sharing with me what his boss told him when he was doing sales.
I had heard his words, and remember them, but I didnt truly understand
what it actually meant until I had practiced it.

~ People dont buy what you sell,

they buy what you believe. ~ Joe Girard
Soon I felt like a superstar salesman selling all his products. We had
roving fans who would kept coming back to us and stayed at our booth
listening to the sharing of our products. The whole experience has
completely brought me out of my limiting belief that I used to have about
selling.

The fulfilment that I got from doing sales was much more than what I
had doing the engineering work. I started to enjoy doing sales more than
engineering work. I believe anyone would eventually enjoy doing sales
more. It is the fulfilment of seeing the happiness on your customers face
when they receive their purchase from you.

~ Sales is about selling yourself ~ Siong Boon

Selling is actually a very noble job. The entire company (your colleague
and their family) depends on the sales to make a living. It is also a moral
obligation to sell what you know would be good for your customer. I
would have failed my duty if I couldnt explain to my customer why they
www.fuel-your-passion.com

should change their existing old lightings with the new energy saving
version. If you know that your customer will be better off with your
products and services, there will be a sense of duty to convince them to
buy. It is your duty to improve life and change the world for the better.

The same goes for marketing. I had always believed that all they do is to
influence our peoples buying decision for their own revenue objective.
My stubborn thoughts on marketing was once blasted by my ex-manager
with his one statement. (What did he said to me? Check out the details
from this page My first awareness, marketing and sales)

I had a very different set of mindsets ever since I had started out my own
business doing what I am passionate about. Sometimes you will need to
move away from your comfort zone in order to see things from a new
perspective. Moving out of your comfort zone can seems frightening at
first, but you will be surprise of the new things that you can discover and
learn.

~ When you are in the other side of the boat, you will start
to see things in a fresh new perspective. ~ - Siong Boon
The changes in my perspective towards sales helps me very much in my
own business. My mindset about sales and marketing is completely
positive compare to the days when I was still in an engineer in a salaried
job. I had had experience the noble mission in selling and have become
more curious about sales and marketing. I started paying more attention
to how other salesman sells their own product, wanting to learn more.
The next sale pitch that I was listening to, opened up my eyes to a whole
new world of reality. He blew my mind and it was how I got my
everlasting fire.

The Everlasting Fire

My Everlasting Fire
It was a typically week, when I received an invitation from my friend
asking me if I am interested to attend an event call Wealth Expo 2012.
An event where gurus teaches people how to create wealth.

I was a very stingy person, and would only attend a seminar only if it was
free. I had believed that a good seminar that was worth my time
attending should be free. Seminar that cost money, simply value our
money more than delivering their good education content. That was the
thought that I now find silly. It was really how my mind was thinking at
that time.

Going through my old email, I

managed to dig out a historical
footprint of the mindset that I was in
during that time. Here was the email
that I had asked my friend if the
Wealth Expo 2012 was FREE. It was so
interesting to look back at myself. I
was like an unpolished diamond.

This Wealth Expo was a 2 full days event, and best of all, it was free of
charge. Ever since my positive selling experience, I had been very
interested in learning how other people sell. It was free and there was
nothing to lose, so I decided to get the ticket to learn sales technique.

www.fuel-your-passion.com
24
The Everlasting Fire

The Wealth Expo was on a weekend. On the early morning of the event,
many people already started registration. I was impressed by how big the
event was and how efficient they were processing our attendance.
Registered guests were given a wrist band to wear. I was thinking why
they bother to issue wrist band for an event that was free. Must be
marketing gimmick to impress people. The whole process made me very
eager and excited, looking forward to the commerce of the event. What
I remember very clearly was the mindset that I had as I walked into the
hall. I was telling myself to take this opportunity to learn sales techniques
from these swindler. There had had no doubt in my mind that these
speakers were out to cheat our money, because if they could make
people rich, then they wouldnt have to be on stage selling their
programs. All that had had in my mind about Wealth Expo 2012 was the
expectation of excellent sales people who are out to scam people.

The event has started. The loud emotion video was played to introduce
the speaker. Adam Khoo the first speaker of the day went on stage. I had
no idea who Adam Khoo was. The moment he started his speech, my
mind was blown away. I was fully focus in his speech. Every of his speech
is new and inspiring to me. Mind blowing day.

Adam Khoo on stage.

His speech was so funny, entertaining at the same time very

transformation. He uses simple and logical stories and example to show
everyone our limiting belief that we had. I was like completely in
harmony with his teaching. He was like a mirror on the stage, allowing
me to see the many limiting belief that I had in myself. I was completely
overwhelmed in a very positive way. All my skepticisms that I had before
entering the hall was completely gone. My mind was blown away that
day because it was nothing as I had expected. It was a super exciting day
for me, with so many new and inspiring learning. The 4 hours with him
seems so short.

The following day was another 4 hours of him speaking. By the end of
the event, I felt a fresh new me, full of positivity. Most of my negativity
thoughts were blast. I was fully packed with positivity everlasting fire.

From that day onwards, I started to realize that I am missing out a lot of
goodness that can make a significant difference to myself. For the next
one year, I would follow to wherever Adam Khoos gave talk.

I started my journey to look for successful people to learn from.

There is nothing creative copying from others, but in
order to attain the level of creativity that we desire,
we have to master copying. The faster way to success
is to copy. Do only what is already working and focus

You can be creative whatever you like after you are successful.

I was trained as a child, not to copy. As a student, we are trained not to
copy our classmates test paper. Homework, we are supposed to do
ourselves. Art and craft class, we are scored according to our creativity.

In reality, everybody copies from everyone. Thats why many things

around us looks very similar. Each copy is better than the previous copy.
The best version is evolved.

There is no universal rule that can stops us from copying. Copy ethically
and legally of course. My mastery in electronic started through copying
circuit design by other engineers. Learning the many ways a circuit can
be designed, learning from good/poor design and learning from mistakes
from other people. Copying helps us to shorten our learning curve by
avoiding mistakes that we could have made by ourselves. This will save
us time, money, and open us up for more opportunities. The experiences
now allow me to free apply the right design.

We tend to have their own belief of what is going to work, even if we do

not have statistical result or success experience to prove so. There is
nothing wrong with having our own belief, but if our belief is not able to
bring us to where we want to go, then we need to be caution. Keep our
mind open and maintain an awareness in our mind that our belief could
be wrong. Learning from people that we see as successful is the key.

That day I decided to learn from successful people.

After listening to Adam Khoos reasoning throughout the 2 days free
seminar at Wealth Expo 2012, I am 100% convinced and became aware
of the limitations I had in my mind. Sub-consciously I was still struggling
to accept this new wisdom that I learned. People were rushing to the side
of the hall to snatch up what I thought to be an insane offer. I couldnt
understand or accept their desperate behavior to sign up 2-3 days course
for a few thousand dollars.

I spent a year following Adams seminar wherever he goes. The speeches

were the same, and I kept listening to re-experience his teaching. One
year passed, the Wealth Expo 2013 is back. Without any doubt I went
again, wanting to listen to the great speakers for free.

One of the speaker in the afternoon was Fabian, talking about how he
can teach us to create a website and be listed number 1 in the Google
search engine result page, attending his Real Internet Secret class. He
was on the stage telling-off the audience that we do not know what we
dont know. His speech was sounding like arrogance to me, pitching us
to follow those with big wallets.

www.fuel-your-passion.com

My friends and I were sitting together. We were graduated from

engineering school. Website building is really not tough for us. My friend
commenting about how easy it was to use WordPress platform to build
a website. Why would we need to attend an expensive class from Fabian
to build a website? I do not know WordPress at that time, but I do agree
with what he said. We are all smiling.

That very night just as I laid down in my bed early for the next day
seminar event, a voice kept streaming non-stop into my mind.

I suddenly recall a goal that I made just a month before, wanting to

become the number 1 within the electronic industry in Singapore. At that
time of making that goal, I really had no idea how my small business is
going to achieve number 1 in Singapore. It was just a naive thought of
mine, back then.

My mission of becoming number and Fabians pitch of making me

number 1 suddenly resonance in my mind. My mind was telling me I
could be number 1 online. My mind struggled for a while.

There were obviously still skeptical thoughts inside me. I had had already
more than 5-10 years of experience building website using HTML. Mine
website has already been listed number one from Googles search page.
I may just be wasting my money to learn the knowledge that I already
know or can easily pick up.

~ You dont know what you dont know ~

- Fabian Lim

One simple fact holds my faith. The fact that despite I have a lot of
experience building a website which had already ranked number one in
google, my wallet was very much smaller than Fabians. Positive
thoughts keep streaming into my mind, giving me the reasons why I
should take the leap of faith to attend. I can also share my learning with
the people around me. The $2970 course fee gradually seems to become
reasonable. I have managed to convince myself to sign up for his 3 days
course just before I sleep.

The very next day I went back to the Expo. I did not care if my friend
would laugh at me or what. I had chosen to sign up in front of my friends
to show them my insanity. To be the first guinea-pig to show them it
could be a path toward success. If I could learn something useful there, I
am sure the people around me will benefit. The worst that could possibly
happen would be losing my entire course fee of $2970, and a lesson
learned to see how a Wealth Expo scam actually works. Either way, it will
benefit me and the people around me. My mind was filling up with
reasons why I must sign up for the course.

So, with that faith, I had managed hold back my fear of losing my hard
earn money, focusing very hard on filling up that form. I got my friend to
swipe up his credit card because I dont hold any credit card personally.
I had no chance of backing out.

www.fuel-your-passion.com

It was still a fearful and struggling process, even though I made the
decision to sign up. The course fee could had been only a month salary
when I was still working for somebody. I was only about 1 year in
business. $2970 was more like my 6 months income. I was fortunate that
I was still single; there was also no financial burden within my family.

A month or 2 later, my class starts. The most expensive class I had took
in my life (in terms of the dollar cost per day). My expectation was
certainly very high.

Aida, a technical coach came in to teach the class. It was not Fabian. I
was a bit disappointing. We were taught how to sign up for a domain
name, get a hosting service and installing WordPress from our laptop. It
was kind of bore for me. I even had to teach a friend sitting beside me
how to do these. He was having problem navigating through the process.
At that point of time, I had that bit of regret not listening to my friends
words. Fortunately, WordPress was something new to me. I had
somehow managed to psycho myself to be patient and continue to enjoy
the class. It was only the beginning of the class there was still a long way
to go. Lunch time, and I had thought the money that we paid for include
our meal. Nope I was wrong.

Fabian came in the afternoon. The very first thing he did was to lecture
us (telling-off) for about 1-2 hours. He probably did that lecturing very
skillfully, because no one in the class resisted him. Everyone just sit there
listen to him. It was interesting 1st time listening to a millionaire lecturing
us in class. He wanted to set our expectation right.

www.fuel-your-passion.com

The whole of the afternoon, Fabian was teaching us little technical stuffs
and many business mindsets. I was learning listening to him talking. By
the mid-afternoon on my first day, I was convinced that my money was
well spent. It was from a statement about one of his strategy.

I was blown away by his very simple statement. If one page can bring
you an amount of traffic, just build more pages. I had the know-how to
build myself a webpage that can rank number on google. It just didnt
even once cross my mind that I should perfect this knowledge and scale
up to create more results. I kept smiling at my stupidity. Such a simple
idea and I didnt even had thought of it before. Fabian werent superior
in his technical, but he had understood the formula for his success
because of his perseverance to achieve the results that he wants. From
that point onwards, I am convinced that there is a big difference between
an engineer and a businessmans mindset. The way this millionaire thinks
was very much different from how I was thinking. If I had not join this
class, I may still be struggling out there for another couple of years before
realizing this problem. I was completely blown away learning all the
business stuffs from Fabian. The following year, I had also attended his
Google Adword Workshop and Advance Search Engine Optimization
Workshop.

Throughout the next 5 years I became more and more acceptance to

spending and learning from successful people. I want to discover more
new things that could add a positive difference to my life. It may sound
easy when I write it now in this book, but it actually took me another 3-
5 years to unwind my past 30+ odd years of mind conditioning. Even till
today I still learning to make new breakthrough in my mindset. So are

the mentors who taught us. Millionaires and billionaires are constantly

The reason why I shared this experience of mine to you is because it is
important to keep on learning a positive mindset and keep working
towards your goal and passion. The greatest enemy that we will face in

ourselves.

Smaller effort, bigger result. Everyone loves buying more with less

Hang on! Who set the rule to say we cannot buy more with less, earn

This means that we can set the rule.

Check for Supply and Demand

Jumping into a business that you are passionate about can very tempting
to start with. While it is recommended to do something that you are
passionate with, it is more important that you are delivering what people
are passionate about, what your customer wants.

Always check for the supply and demand of your passion niche. You dont
want to get into a business where there is no demand for the product
and services that you are providing. You may then find yourself struggling
to make a living.

Dont fight head to head with a fierce and giant competitor. If Coca-Cola
is selling Coke, it is better to avoid selling a similar Coke drink. There is a
high probability of failure for selling products that are not differentiated.
Consider selling soft-drinks with a distinct. Differential out your product
so that you will not be competing directly with strong competitors. You
can when you are stronger.

Dont serve a market that is too small to sustain your business. Look for
a business perspective that enable you to serve a bigger market while
still doing what you are passionate about. Business not only has to
sustain but to grow and improve over time.

We are now living in a very efficient market. Whenever there is a

demand, there will be an equivalent size of competitors. Study your
competitors and you will have an idea how big the market is. You can do
your research on Yellow Pages, on the internet or visit their retail stores.

www.fuel-your-passion.com

While having little competitions can be a nice thing, it is potentially

indicating a low demand for the product or service. It doesnt mean you
will have no business. It just means you must work much harder. I was
exactly in this terrible situation.

Building up a business from scratch to realize the low demand, was not
what I expected when I first started out. I had only relied purely on my
passion for electronic when I jumped into this. I wouldnt say it is a bad
thing. If I did know it would be tough, I would probably not even dare to
step out in the first place. Sometimes being naive helps. You move
forward first without knowing the danger ahead. When you are
committed, you will find a way out.

I didnt know about all these when I first started out. These was what I
have learned from Fabian in his Real Internet Secret class. As a formal
warning from what I have learned from millionaire mentors. If you want
to be successful financially, work on a business that has higher demands
and competitors that you have a chance to outdo. You can be as
stubborn as I am, wanting to work out your passion. Just be mentally
prepared to get bruises and swelling.

Figure out what people wants and the potential to top your niche. Check
if the demand is sufficient for you to grow to the future that you are
looking forward to.

Systematic
A sustainable business, no matter big or small, always has a systematic
way of doing things. The idea is to derive a way of doing things so that it
will not be ambiguous, more productive and allows a task to be
delegated or automated.

You may not see systematic processes as important especially when your
business is small. Operation without a systematic way of getting task
done is a hinder future growth.

Creative task like design or marketing can seems so inconsistent. What I

have learned from Fabian (marketing guru) is that even a complex skill
like marketing can be systematic. It can easily be taught to a layman, can
be delegated and eventually automated.

Outsourcing task to other company is another option. It is work is done

by a specialized company who already has a productive process.
Outsourcing can be more efficiency than hiring especially when your
business is small. You can get specialized and dedicated people to work
on your project and scale it relatively to your business growth, while not
having the pressure to commit to a monthly payroll.

Once a system is there, you can automate through processes or

software, and perhaps outsource/delegate the role. The system will
evolve when your business grow.

The most extreme company that I have visited is P&G, a giant global
company. She probably only has sales, marketing and research team. The
rest were outsourced. It is the most extreme company known to me.

In the beginning business was small. I started off doing everything
myself. Over time when business grow, the role of a companys director
will eventually shift from doing production, to sales and marketing role
of the business. This is the most critical role which directors will be
responsible for. The rest of the task will be delegated to internal teams
or outsource to other companies.

Sales and marketing is the most important department in any company.

Without customers to support your operation, you will not be able to
sustain and eventually will have to crease operation.

24hr salesman
Build a website and let the page do the talking for you. This was what I
did. Operating 24hrs a day, 7 days a week connecting the whole world to
you. I just need to spend that initial one-time effort, and a website will
help me sell forever. Isnt that a wonder leverage? When customers
make an enquiry, they are already in the state of making a deal with you.
You will have a lesser hard time dealing with your customers enquiry, or
convincing them to take on your offering.

Besides building a website to get traffic from google, there are also other
means of marketing that may be suitable for you.

Technologies are easily available, and it is inexpensive and relatively

simple to use. You dont have to be savvy in order to leverage on
technological tools. Anyone can easily build a website, do email or social
marketing. The important part is using the marketing tools skillfully to
achieve effective result. It is about how you can leverage them properly.
These are very essential skills that every business will need. Learn from
those who has already shown success doing it.

Expand market
When you are ready scale up your market. Using the similar amount of
time and effort in a different way to get a bigger result.

The example frequently quote by my mentor, Gin. You can choose to sing
to a smaller group of people in a pub. You can also spend the same
amount of time singing to a larger group of people for a lower ticket
price, yet earning more. It is a matter of how you execute it which will
make a difference.

Deep Breath, Then Jump
This is about taking risk. Everything that we do contains a level of risk.
Some activities are low risk, some are high. Our mental has the natural
ability to pull us back from very risky consequences wanting to protect
us from getting hurt. This can be a good thing, but can also be bad if it
becomes a resistance in our path to success. It is our duty to work hard
and contain our fear to overcome this natural resistance.

I am considered a low risk taker. I am scare of heights, and dont enjoy

exciting activities which people perceive as fun. It can take me a few
hours to a few weeks, to make a purchase decision. Most people do that
too especially when they are still financially dependence. When I make
any decision, it can take me a long period of time to decide. This wasnt
too much a problem when I was still a teenager relying on the allowances
from my parent. I hardly see this as a problem too when I was working in
a stable job with a fixed income; because with a fixed income I have to
control my spending. I have more awareness that this is a problem for
me when I started to observe how my friend in business and how
successful people thinks.

Successful people are not afraid to spend. Not afraid doesnt means they
will spend their money anyhow. They spend it wisely for an objective. A
typical objective will be for profit or growth for example. As long as the
solution meets their objective and is affordable, they will take action and
execute it. I was even wiser; spending my time to compare a more
affordable and an even better solution. I want to tell you that this is not
Deep Breath, Then Jump

wise. It actually took me a number of years to overcome this behavior

that was deeply programmed in my mind. I know what I should do, but
it was natural for me to behavior in the inefficient manner.

Time is more precious than money. Some of us has longer life span, some
of us shorter. The problem is, we will hardly know how long our life span
will be. Even if we assume that we live through the same 100 years, there
will be people who will earn more in an hour than we earn in our lifetime.
The question is not if this is possible, but how it can be done. There are
so many living examples we can see. The secrets lay in how they are using
their time.

The value of your time.

One good example that I learned from my mentor Shun Jian is a choice
between having to pay for something or getting the same thing for free.
On the Google map, we can see that the
distance between Singapore and Thailand is
only about 2149km. Google computes the
possibility of me walking from Singapore to
Thailand which will take me about 435 hours.
Walking is free, but what most people typically
will do is to buy a plane ticket and fly to
Thailand which will take them only about 3
hours or less. Why most people dont choose to walk? Walking may be
free, but we will have to spend more time to reach our destination. Not
only it will be tiring to walk that long distance, and we are going to spend
more on a place to rest and more food for energy along the journey. The

www.fuel-your-passion.com
41
Deep Breath, Then Jump

concept is simple, and I am sure most people will be able to understand.

Applying this simple concept in reality wasnt that easy for me.

When I just started off in my own business, I did not have many clients.
It was tough, and it was my natural instinct to spend less and save as
much as I could, by doing whatever I could by myself. From engineering
work, to marketing, sales and administration. Spending more time on
one task will means less time for sales and marketing which will affect
my future income. It was one of the factors that prevent my growth. I
was simply trading my time for my income. The whole business model
was unsustainable.

How much we will get depends on the value that we are giving, and not
the time we are spending. The secret to this is to know the value of
ourselves. If we have a job that we work for, $5 an hour, it would seem
a wise decision to walk for 10 minutes to save taking a 10 dollars taxi
ride. If we believe that our time is worth much more, for example $1000
per hour, it would be wiser just to take a short taxi ride for that 10 bucks
to save our time. It is a chicken and egg problem. This would mean we
have to first have a conscious impression of ourselves earning higher
value, and then make a decision to take that taxi ride, so that we can
have more time to do what matters most.

What I did to improve my time is to focus more on the business that I can
add most value to. I have started to respect my own time, and
consciously accept clients who respect my time and the value that I
added to their business. It has to be a decision from me to make this
change. My quality of life improves. I started to outsource the work to
other companies who can do the work better than I could. That would
www.fuel-your-passion.com
42
Deep Breath, Then Jump

mean earning much less, but it doesnt matter as long I am making some
profit from the value that I provided to my client, it doesnt matter. A
significant value to my clients is what I add and help their business make
profit and grow. Doing the production and administration is part of the
process but it is not the significant value that contribute to my clients
success. It makes more sense to delegate to a more specialized and
efficient company.

Even thought I was aware and consciously making a wiser decision, it is

still not a second natural to me. I still have the tendency struggling with
myself. My practice now is to learn to make a faster decision, take action
and forget about it. The same goes to decision for business loses. I have
consciously learned to overcome this frustration by treating them as a
companys lost and not my own loses. Overtime I had learned to take
responsibility for my loses, accept it, and continue to move myself

Taking risk can be frightening, can be fearful. Fear is good as it prepares
ourselves for the worst. But it should not inhabit us from taking massive
action that can lead us to where we want to go.

In the process of taking actions, there will be bound to have times where
you would be hit with problems and fear. There will be problems that
you will encounter in your journey.

The solution is not about avoid risk, but to manage the risk that we will
be taking. When things go bad, we have to managed our emotion and
psychology.

Deep Breath, Then Jump

I have constantly evolved in my tolerance to take risk and accept risk

after learning from successful people. Business losses of a few hundred
dollars were a big deal back then. When I started to lose a few thousand
dollars, hundred dollars seems so insignificant.

The biggest risk-taking lesson that I have learned is through trading the
stock market. It was the biggest lost I had in my life. The amount wasnt
big enough to kill me, but it almost killed my confidence (my everlasting
fire) which would had been worst. This biggest loss that I had, has
amplified the negativity in my life, dragging me into depression. My
optimistic version of me almost throw my white flag to surrender.

Somehow, I managed to pull myself through. Many lessons learned. One

significant lesson that I learned from my trading courses is to accept the
losses and move on. Learn the mistake and move on with my life.

In a time of trouble, you must protect your physiology at all cost. The sun
still rises in the morning and set in the evening. Every day will still operate
like any other day. You must not allow your negativity to take over and
control you.

This is a long lesson that I would like to spend more time with you next
time. Do watch out for my coming newsletter Managing Physiology.

Life is Abundance
Abundance means a very large quantity of something. The world is so
big, with so many resources. Whatever you wanted is just out there
waiting for you to get it.

The concept of abundance is rather counter intuitive. Scarcity is

something we are more familiar. The daily allowance from our parents,
can only allow us to buy limited things that we want. When we spend on
food, we will have less money for our entertainment. There can only be
a winner in a competition. If he is in the first place, then you can at more
be in the second.

Scarcity is definitely valid. The way you perceive life as scarcity or

abundance can influence your response to life and hence return a
different result. Scarcity is a mindset of limits, hence will set you limited
energy. Abundance is a mindset of unlimited, hence it is up to your
imagination to determine. Both can be useful if you use them in a
positive way.

A scarcity mindset thinks in a disempowering way if it is used wrongly.

You will start to believe that there are many competitions in a market of
limited customers. The thought of it can already discourage them to take
actions because not only they have to compete, but also, they will dilute
the market. It is already too late for them to start.

Abundance mindset believe that resources are unlimited. They know

that there is competition but they cant see others as competitors. They
Life is Abundance

dont see market as a limited fix pool of resources, thats why they can
think of ideas to expand into a new market that no other has think of.
Because they believe that resources are unlimited, they will continue to
look for a solution.

Abundance mindset often returns me positive result that surprises me.

See no competitors
Singapore is such a small country, it is better to find more partners, make
more friends rather than enemy. One way that I did to ensure that I dont
see my competitors was to differential my offering from my partners. I
steer to ensure that my marketing and services offered are different
from others. Many of the companies were offering PCB design and
fabrication, some offers design. I had the same services offer, but over a
period time I was able to refine my services such that it differential and
compliments their services, to a point where I dont see them as
competitors. It also allows me to specialist on certain area so that I can
become more efficient and profitable too.

My competitors are much bigger and has more resources that I am. Most
of the competitors are capable of producing multiple layers and complex
PCB board. Over the years, I notice that a significant of the customers
that I was serving only requires simple 2-layers PCB boards. So I decided
to give up wanting to attract every customers and to focus on the market
which only need 2-layers board.

In terms of the search engine optimization (SEO), this niche also helped
me rank better. At this point in time, my website is already in the 1 st

www.fuel-your-passion.com
46
Life is Abundance

position for the local google search page. I had had been in the 2nd
position for a few years, just behind my partner.

I was a small business then running alone. My objective is clear, to look

for a partner whom I can work with for the long term. Whenever I have
project opportunity from client, I will outsource to one of the company
so that I have the chance to work with them, to know them better. Over
time, we become a partner relationship. Sometimes I am their customer,
something they become my customers.

My business started to become more specialized, so much so that when

I have an enquiry I ever refer my customers directly to my partners
because I know that they will be much more efficient handling the
project than I do. By sending free leads I was also building relationship
with my partners and perceive as a trusted brand by my customers. Over
time they also refer their client to me as they became aware the area
that I am specializing in. Together we could leverage on each other
strength and take on projects that we would not had taken up if we are
all alone.

~ Make Your Competition Irrelevant ~

This working relationship also applies to my customers who engage my
design service. Sometimes I become their customer buying product from
them. It is a form of goodwill reciprocity. This reciprocity relationship
soon becomes a network. I had realized, the more partners, vendors,
suppliers and customers I know, the bigger would be my network, the
more solutions I would be able to provide for my clients, and hence the
higher my net worth. There is no longer a customer and supplier

www.fuel-your-passion.com
47
Life is Abundance

relationship. Everyone is just leveraging on the strength of each to

deliver a higher value product and services.

This reminds me about the term Comparative Advantage. I had learned

from a course on import, export and international trade. It was a project
research understanding more about why countries trade, the idea of
maintaining trade balance between countries and reciprocity trade.

Comparative Advantage is one that explain how working together can

produce more results than the two individual combines, based on the
principle of specialization. For example. John has a strong knowledge of
a farming field, can harvest 10 carrots and catch 1 fish per day. Peter is
the king of the ocean and is able to easily catch 10 fishes but only 2
carrots per day. Together their productivity is about 12 carrots and 11
fishes per day. If both of them focuses on their strength and work
together as a team, John could focus more on his know-how producing
20 carrots per day, while Peter do fishing whole day is able to catch 20
fishes in a day. Together they would produce about 20 carrots and 20
fishes per day. Sharing their produced equally, they will each of 10
carrots and 10 fishes which is easily doubled what they were producing.

Share and attract

There were many times where my proposal that I had spent days thinking
and drafting for a new client ends up in my computers stale project
folder. Those are good ideas but were rejected mainly due to
unaffordable cost. One day, I decided that instead of leaving them on the
shelf, why not turn them into a marketing materials to help me attract
more clients? What I did next is to share what ever proposal that I did. I
dont really care if other competitors or clients will see my proposal and
www.fuel-your-passion.com
48
Life is Abundance

use it for their own business. If they really implemented what I had
posted, it is going to benefit the society and our economy too. Indeed,
the idea works. Very often when I share a rejected proposal online, it
would attract people who also have interest in the same proposal. This
in turns help me get more good quality leads, turning my junk into
fertilizer to grow my online presence.

Helping others is helping ourselves

The SEO marketing skills that I had learn also help me build better
relationship with partners/clients. Sometimes I will help them market
their products through my website. Not only I can build relationship with
my clients, I am also gaining my business present online. The more
business I can bring to them, the higher chance I can get more business
from them. Helping them is also helping myself indirectly.

There are probably more stories relating to the power of abundance. I

hope I can share with you more inspiring stories as and when I can recall
in the near future.

Believe in abundance and see no competitors. More competition may

not mean worst off. It depends on how you perceive and how you
response to make the best out of the situation.

As long as you believe in your products and services are the best for your
customers, your customers will be able to sense it. You would have no
competitors.

49
You Are The Captain
You are the captain of our own life. You have the
power to control the direction you would like to fly
towards, the power to control over your life.

The reality to control over our own life takes a conscious effort. Many of
us thinks that we are in control of our life, mind and body. Often, it is our
mind and body controlling us.

When I plan to jog wanting to keep myself fit, there will be this lazy voice
inside me, telling me to do it another day. My mind will lure me to couch
whole day watching television, knowing that I need to accomplish an
important task. Discipline can be a struggle.

We are a captain of our own physical mind and body. It Is our duty to
steer our plane to the direction that we want to go. If it doesnt fly to the
direction that we wanted to go, it is obviously the captains fault.

Set Your Flight Destination

It all started with you setting your destination. Where do you want to see
yourself in 3 to 5 years time. It can be hard to imagine since we have not
been to the destination before. Doesnt matter. Let your imagination go
wild and desire the dream of your future doing what you love, your
passion. This is the most important step. Why?
You Are The Captain

The visualizing of your true desire will bring you to the next step.
Planning and setting up your flight path from your current point A to your
destination point B.

Imagine you desire to earn a million dollar in 10 years time. If you are to
work 8 hours every day for 10 years, you should have an income that can
brings you at least $34.25/hr. If you are receiving less than $34.25 per
hour, you will know that no matter how hardworking you are, you will
not reach your dream.

This doesnt mean that it is impossible to reach your millionaire dream.

It just means that if you continue to do the things that you are doing now,
you will not reach that goal. What you need to look for a new strategy
that can help you achieve an income that can provide you more than
$34.25/hr.

This exercise will also allow you to see how much you are worth, and
help you to decide how your time should be used.

Without setting our destination, we will have little idea where we want
to go. We will be like flying aimlessly hoping that one day we can reach
our destination. Working diligently can give you an illusion that your hard
work will eventually pay off.

~ Working hard will not bring you to your destination.

Setting your destination will. ~ Siong Boon
Now the you have set your destination, you have to find out which route
can take you to the destination.

Set Your Flight Path

After your destination is set, you will list down the things that you can do
to move closer to your destination.

List down the intermediate milestone that you need to accomplish in

order for you to reach your destination. Dont worry if you are unsure
what to do. Just list down the task that you think if accomplished, would
help you reached your destination. It will not be perfect because no one
can see the future.

One way to help you get started is to share your destination (your desire)
with your friends gathered over a table. I read about this method from a
book many years ago. That was a time before I had the courage to start
a business. I found it strange because why would telling your friends
about what you wanted to achieve in life could helped you achieve your
goal. I did it anyway and think that it had probably works. Supernatural
as it may seem, there is a psychology science behind it.

Sub-consciously when you share your desire to friend, you are holding
yourself accountable for what you said. Now that everyone has heard
you, you will have to do what you said. This can be a way for you to step
one step forward. It can be kind of uncomfortable when you share your
goal for the very first time. Who cares if it works.

Take Off
Now that you have a rough plan for your flight plan, it is time to take
massive actions. Take actions every single day and achieve small
milestone for your destination. The more actions that you take, the
faster you will reach your destination.
www.fuel-your-passion.com
52
You Are The Captain

Life is not like a smooth flight flying straight from point A to point B. It is
more like a swaying path. When you start your flight, there will be
resistance along the way. Cross wind can come and push you out of your
planned path. Detour may be needed during the journey to avoid
crushing to the path of other planes. You may need to stop for an
additional fuel refill. During the journey things can happen, and it will be
you the captain who must be there to response to the situation and
ensure that your plane is still flying towards your destination.

I will not be able to tell you exactly when you will reach your goal. What
I am certain is that taking little steps everyday towards your destination,
you will be closer to your destination compared to, if you did nothing at
all. You may still be struggling in your journey even after years of taking
massive actions. Dont give up. Continue to take massive actions. Look
out for new strategies and apply them to help you boost up your speed
to your destination.

Learn from successful people, the secret to their success. It is possible to

do it on your own. It is only time you are wasting especially if you had
not been through the route of success. You will be paying anyway. You
either pay to learn from successful people, or pay for your time to
explore by yourself. Remember, taking a flight makes more sense than
walking.

Flight Announcement: Blame yourself for everything.

As a captain of your own life, it is important to blame yourself for all the
shits that hindered your journey to your destination. Yes, that includes
blaming yourself even if you dont see yourself being the root cause of
the problem.

As long as there is an obstruction to your destination, it would be your

own fault. It doesnt matter if the problem is cause by you or not.

This is a power that you have to consciously hold it on your hand,

because it can just slip off from your hand unwitting by you just pushing
blame on others.

The slightest thought of blaming would be enough to make you lose

this power over your own life. Once you start to blame you will be dismiss
from your captain role and will lose the control over where you want to
go. Sounds bizarre, isnt it? Why is this so?

(Blaming yourself for whatever problems you would face in your life can
help you hold the captain power in your hand. Check out my coming
newsletter Blame yourself for everything)

Believe in Yourself
Believe in yourself. Who else can you
believe more than you yourself?

~ Only you can see the lion in you. ~

Life often throw us with difficult obstacles and challenges. The moment
we overcome them, we will become a stronger person. Very often we
are trap because of our limiting belief. It was difficult when I did not
know, and it became easy once I have understood them. One of my early
limiting belief was that being a salesman is the last job I would imagine I
would in.

Through my younger school days, I knew very well my language really

sucks. In my tertiary schools, I would want to stick my head into the
ground when it was my turn to speak in front of the class. My mind will
instantly go blank standing in front of the class doing a formal
presentation. I cant help it but to let the fear take control over my body.
In university, I had to speak in front of a class for the longest; everyone
hears my jittered voice and see shaking body. I had always believed that
I cant sell, cant negotiate, cant do business.

~ Everything Youve Ever Wanted is On The Other Side Of

Fear ~ - Jack Canfield
Believe in Yourself

There are also many good stuffs inside me. I chose a path of least
resistance, a journey relying on my strength instead of weakness. This
allows me to gain confidence and later in life overcome my limiting
belief.

~ Whether you think you can or you can't, you are right. ~
- Henry Ford
You got to believe in yourself.

You will start to take action when you believe in yourself. Would you
attempt to look for a sales job, if you believe that you arent fit as a
salesman? Probably no.

However, if you believe in yourself and your passionate to do great

things, you will strive to stand even when you fail.

~ Failing today doesnt mean you will fail tomorrow ~

Believing is free of charge, yet harnessing its power can do great things.

No one is going to believe more than you are believing in yourself. The
power over your own life has always been in your own hand.

The Secret Finale to
Living Your Passion
So, what is the secret to living our passion?

Ever since Adam Khoo had ignited my everlasting fire 5 years ago, I have
been following numerous successful people listening to their secret of
success. I am not as successful as I would like to be yet. Still in the mid of
this adventure, fueling my passion, learning and improving every single
day. The day that I grasp hold of the secret would probably be the day I
have achieved my set goals. I will be taking a step at a time, progressively
moving towards my vision. It really depends on how quick I can
understand and apply.

The journey to pursuing passion can be a challenging paradox to

describe. Those who had experienced an awareness can instantly
understand what I am talking about. There will also be people who will
find it hard to grasp the idea that I am describing. It is like an attempt to
describe the color of Red to a group of blind people who had never
experience color in their life before. It can be a frustrating
communication experience.

Staying with people who shared the same passion helps a lot in your
journey to pursue your passion. It is important to look for the group of
swans who we share the same values and passion. At times of difficulty,
they can be your support group to pull you through.
The Secret Finale to Living Your Passion

Write Out Your Dreams and Goals that You Look Forward to
I am starting to understand the idea of planting a seed of believe into my
mind. Whatever beliefs, dreams or goals that we plant into our mind will
results in the outcome that we encounter throughout my life. Plant good
seeds, I will get good outcome, plant bad seeds, I will expect bad
outcome. Some group call this NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) or
NAC (Neuro Associative Conditioning), others call it the physiology or
habits. The earlier you plant the seed in your mind, the earlier you can
harvest your fruit of labour.

~ The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next
best time is NOW ~ - Chinese Proverb
The science to achieve your passion or anything that you want in life is
simply have a strong thought about it and take massive action towards
it.

Yes. It is that simple. So simple that I had ignored it since day one. Many
times, I was asked to write down my dream and income that I desire to
have. I really hated this activity. I found it silly and always find it silly to
do this exercise properly. I dont understand why we had to write them
out. Every time my mind would be blank, so was the paper on my hand.
I know I want to improve my life, I want plenty of passive income and a
big house. I do not have any idea how to achieve my desires and simply
do not see how can writing them down on the paper, reading them every
day is going to help me achieve reach my goal.

Over time, I started to accept that we all have a mind of our own. We are
simply a biological being, with a wired-up mind that gave us our unique

www.fuel-your-passion.com
58
The Secret Finale to Living Your Passion

identity. This resulted in a different yet predictable behavior in each one

of us. Each of us has our own habit.

Any thoughts that we consciously feed into our self will result in a certain
outcome. It is like inputting values and get a defined result from a
computer. Human mind works the same way. Feeding our brain with
useful thoughts will result in a useful outcome.

What we need to do is to ensure that we feed our mind with useful

thoughts that can enable us to move forward to our desire. When
thoughts of fear arise when we are moving forward, take a moment to
assess our fear. Is the thought of fear useful, or it is simply preventing us
from moving forward?

~ Begin with the End in Mind ~ - Stephen Covey

Start your journey now by planting a seed that you desire inside your
mind. Make your desire strong by writing them down so that you can
read them every day and will not forget. You are feeding your mind with
only what you want. ONLY think about what you want.

I have finally got desires written down.

~ All things are created twice.

First mentally; then physically ~ - Stephen Covey

Take Massive Actions

Then take actions that can move you towards your desire. Take massive
actions so that you can have faster result.

Taking action does not means that you will eventually be successful. But
at least you will be a step closer to your dream, compare to doing nothing
about your desire. It doesnt need to be perfect. Taking a step at a time,
you will be closer to your dream for each day that passes by. Speed up
this by taking massive action.

Success is unlike winning a lottery ticket, nor it is a finish line that you
have arrived. You will probably not wake up one day to realized that you
are successful. Success is the journey itself, success is about the process
of moving forward towards your goal, towards your desire. Success is
about being the better version of yourself each and every day.

~ Once you make the DECISION, you will find all the
people, resources and ideas you need
every time. ~ - Sandy Gallagher
This is probably just a beginning of my own journey. Even after so many
discoveries that I had, I am amazed by even more new awareness. I really
have no idea where is the limit in the sky. It is limit only by my own
imagination.
