Ottaviani Course Expectations


6th Grade Social Studies

This year we will focus on the Geography of the world. Our timeline will begin with basic
map skills and exploring the 7 Continents and what makes each one unique, as well as current
events that are happening in each region. We will then transition to Thematic based units such
as environmental concerns, globalization, immigration, and industrialization. Grades and
student evaluation will be based on effort and participation in classroom discussions, on
quizzes, homework, tests and projects.

Required Supplies:
One subject notebook with 3 holes
3 ring 1 binder this binder will contain notes, activities, homework and will remain in class.
5 binder dividers
Lined paper (3 hole punched)
One 2 pocket folder, 3 hole punched

Course Objectives: Grading Policy:


1. Students will be able to discuss Homework: 15%
current topics and how they relate Quizzes: 15%
to shaping different geographical Classwork and interactive notebook: 20%
regions. Tests: 10%
2. Students will be able to identify how Projects: 25%
geography affect people throughout Class Participation and Effort: 15%
