Introduction

The portable toilet is a lightweight, transportable, efficient and more sanitary variation of a common
facility for the elimination of human waste that existed before the arrival of indoor plumbing which was
the "outhouse". (http://www.encyclopedia.com/manufacturing/news-wires-white-papers-and-
books/portable-toilet ) In other words, a portable toilet is another form of this outhouse which is meant
to more convenient, portable and efficient. A portable toilet is not connected to any external holes on
the ground or to a septic tank nor is it connected to any plumbing mechanism that leads to a sewage
treatment plant. Since portability is one the main characteristics of the these toilets, units are designed
so that it could be carried by an individual alone, however some variations require heavy lifting
equipments like cranes or trucks for their transport. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_toilet )

The manufacturing process for such portable toilet is relatively simple with only few materials required.
One of the main components required for the manufacturing of such toilets is the light weight sheet
plastic, such as polyethylene, which forms the actual unit and secondary pump and holding tank which
forms the portable sewage system within the unit. (http://www.madehow.com/Volume-3/Portable-
Toilet.html ) The most well known form of the portable toilet is the chemical toilet, where chemicals
are used to minimize the odor of the excreta. Such chemical toilets are found in modes of transport like
trains and planes. Other varieties also include camping toilets, urine-diversion dehydration toilets,
composting toilets, container-based toilets, bucket toilets, freezing toilets and incineration toilets.

Portable toilets are mostly used at sites where indoor plumbing is not feasible or at venues that are used
for a temporary period or specific events like construction sites, public gatherings, concerts, etc. As
mentioned, these toilets are used for specific usage and temporary period. Usage of portable toilets for
more than 10 consecutive days is classified as long term use for the portable toilets.

stated that despite being a temporary unit, public toilets serve required solution for defecation at sites
and gatherings hosting large number of people. Portable units can be placed in any suitable area within
an event venue to ensure your guest have everything they need for their sanitation needs.

important role in conservation of water. Even "low flush" toilets require a minimum of 1.6 gallons of
water per flush. (https://www.epa.gov/watersense/residential-toilets ) Modern advancements in
portable toilets have enabled each unit of portable toilet to have better odor control and improved
quality of cleanliness and sanitation with built in sink facilities as well.
