NUMERICAL SIMULATION ON THREE DIMENSIONAL

DEFORMATION AND FAILURE OF TOP COAL CAVING

Abstract Based on the whole sub-level caving process with deformation and failure of coalthe activities of top
coal and the roof are analyzed by using FLAC softwareand the three dimensional stressdeformation and failure are
getten clear. The results show that top coal is difficult to be fragmented under the supporting pressure because of the
higher strength of coaland must be weakened to increase recovery rate. There are zoned characteristics for top coal
failure. The top coal begins to move in the site of the peak supporting pressure with 57m before coal wall.
