leca sobre otras lneas teraputicas en los aos 70. En ese momento,
mi tarea clnica y universitaria se rega por ese modelo. Sin embargo,
con una visin integrativa de la psicoterapia, me motivaba incursio-
nar en otros aportes. Los primeros escritos de autores cognitivos lle-
garon a mis manos a comienzos de los 80. Pero el impacto que me
provoc la lectura de Terapia cognitiva de la depresin fue determi-
nante en mi ruta. Me encontr frente a un maestro capaz de producir
una innovacin en la visin del problema, ampliando la teorizacin de
esta patologa desde un ngulo totalmente distinto. Fascinada por su
aporte y la claridad con la que transmita sus ideas, inici mi camino
en el cognitivismo. En esos aos, en la Argentina, los textos nos llega-
ban en ingls o los comprbamos en nuestros viajes. Con un grupo de
trabajo de profesionales apasionados por este nuevo enfoque, nos con-
vertimos en viajeros insaciables de conocimiento.
Cuando en 1985 apareci Trastornos de ansiedad y fobias, me di
cuenta de la dimensin que los aportes de Beck tendran para el por-
venir de la psicoterapia. Dotado de una mente privilegiada enrique-
ci la psicoterapia legalizando en un marco terico y tcnico lo que
algunos hacamos desde el sentido comn, pero que vivamos como
una hereja al marco conceptual vigente.
La primera parte del libro, escrita por el Dr. A. Beck desarrolla un
modelo explicativo de la complejidad de los trastornos de ansiedad y
de las fobias. Una redaccin fcil, tpica de los que tienen claridad
respecto de lo que quieren transmitir, conduce al lector a sentirse
atrapado en la trama narrativa.
La segunda parte, que corresponde a Gary Emery, es el comple-
mento perfecto. En ella se desarrollan los principios teraputicos,
estrategias y tcticas. Ruth Greenberg aporta lo valioso de su evalua-
cin crtica, as como sugerencias tcnicas y material clnico.
Con el objetivo de motivar al lector de habla hispana para sumer-
girse en este texto, enfatizar algunos de los conceptos que me
impactaron en su momento y an hoy me parecen los pilares de la
comprensin de estos trastornos.
Los invito a un viaje a travs de sus contenidos.
