The Institute for Medical Ethics and History of Medicine of the Ruhr-University Bochum is
now accepting fellowship applications for the academic year of 2017/2018. This
opportunity is for post-doctoral researchers who wish to spend four weeks during term
time in Bochum as part of the Institutes dynamic research community. Engage with us in
our collaborative and interdisciplinary exploration of different ethical issues!

Applications will be accepted until Monday, August 14th, 2017 at 11:59 p.m CET.
Open slots are available between October 16th and December 17th 2017
or between April 9th and July 14th 2018. (Please indicate your preferred time slot in your
application!)

We are looking for talented and dedicated scholars with strong intellectual abilities, an
interest in interdisciplinary research, flexibility, team-working skills, and a very good
command of the English language. Candidates should have successfully completed a
doctoral degree in medicine, philosophy, social sciences, psychology, or another relevant
discipline with experience in the field of medical ethics.

We invite applications from people working on a broad range of ethical topics which may
overlap with ongoing work at the Institute and may expose our research community to new
opportunities and approaches.

About the Fellowship Programme

The fellowships are awarded to post-doctoral researchers under the Institutes established
International Visiting Fellowship Programme in Medical Ethics. As one of the countrys
leading groups in the interdisciplinary field of medical ethics, we offer a dynamic and vibrant
research environment. Our research covers a broad range of topics and methods, including
projects with philosophical as well as empirical social-scientific approaches. The duration of
the fellowships is four weeks with the option to extend the stay for another month. Fellows
receive a monthly stipend of 1.200 EUR to cover their living expenses in Germany, depending
on their qualification. Fellowships do not provide medical insurance or other social benefits.
Social security or tax-payments are not deducted from the stipend.

Your application should include your curriculum vitae, a short outline (1-2 pages) of the
purpose of your visit and a copy of a recent publication or an example of relevant work. The
latter should be on the order of a paper or chapter - not an entire book or dissertation - and
should be in English. Please e-mail your application until Monday, August 14th, 2017. 11:59
p.m CET to Dr. Ina Otte (ina.otte@rub.de).
