cof Springfield (“Department”), we understand that social media can
be a fim and rewarding way to share your life and opinions with family, friends, co-workers, or
‘thers around the world. However, tse of social media also presents certain risks and caries
with it certain responsibilities. To assist you in making responsible decisions about your use of
social media, we have established this policy
We are committed to ensuring our employees’ use of sovial media does not violate Federal or
state privacy, copyright, defamation or diserimination laws. For example, City Departments are
required under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPAA”) to
ensue that any protected health information (“PHI”) that we ereate, receive, use, or store is not
‘improperly used or diseloted theough any means, including the Intemet. We are also committed
to, and have a legitimate interest in, protecting our provision of services, our working
relationships with other organizations, our confidential and proprietary information, and
reflecting favorably on our professional tats as public employes and administrators
This policy is not intended to restrict your legal rights, such as your right to engage in
responsible social media discussions about things such as wages, benefits, hours, or working
conditions. Rather, this policy is designed to help avoid claims against the Department or its
personnel for things like: HIPAA violations, invasion of privacy and breach of contract,
