SERIAL SOLVER
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
To build a manually controlled robot using serial communication which can
perform specific tasks which can respond according to serial commands.

Round 1: Qualifying round.

Round -2: Final Round.
General Rules:
1. Only one bot per team is allowed and team can consist of maximum 5
members.
2. Only one team member is allowed to control the robot if team has a wireless
controlled robot, in case team having wired robot two members are allowed to
operate, one for controls and another for holding wire.
3. While competition no human interference is allowed otherwise teams can
be disqualified.
4. Improper behavior with competitors or any other may lead to
disqualification.
5.Tasks must be performed only by using single serial command.
6.The tasks which are performed completely within a specified time will only be
considered.
7.LEGO kits or its spare part or pre made mechanical parts are not allowed.
8. At any time Judges have right to changes the rules and would be informed to
Contestants and the decision of judges will be final.
Robot Specifications:
1. The dimensions of the bot should be less than 20cmx15cmx20cm and
weight should not exceed 5 kg, otherwise judges have the right to disqualify
the team.
2. Controlling of the bot must be done only through serial communication i.e. by
using USB, Bluetooth module, RF modules etc. (**DPDTs and any type of
switches are not allowed).
3. Teams can use either wired or wireless control mechanisms. In wired robot
the wire should remain slack at any instant of time.
4. The dimensions of the remote are not included in the size constraint of the
bot.
5.When using electric power supply, the potential difference between any two
points must not exceed 15 V at any point of time during the game.
6.If any team wants to skip the question, they must take at least 1 minute to
solve the question and also bear the penalty.
7.To display the character/integer while performing tasks, 7-segment display
must be used.

Gameplay:
1. The event will be conducted in 2 rounds.
2. The bot needs to solve the maze control manually by serial commands.
3. Points criteria will be revealed on the spot.
4. Teams should be ready on the given time, otherwise that team may be
disqualified.
5. If robot goes out of the arena boundary the team will be awarded with time
penalty.
6. if the robot crosses any line while maze solving penalty will be awarded.
7. Both will have to perform predefined task at the entry and exit of the maze.
ARENA:
The arena and dimension will be revealed for both rounds at the spot.
Crossing the arena or maze line may lead to penalty.

Fig: Example Arena for Round 1
Round-1
Task:
This is just a qualifying round and top 4 teams are selected to next
round.

Step1: Question solving:

For this round 5 minutes will be given each team to solve the questions.
A black box is placed in front of the arena which contains slips (on which
questions are printed), a team has to pick a slip randomly from this box &
solve the question (question are general aptitude\IQ but not technical).
After knowing the result, the team has to place the solution slip in solution
box next to question box.
Based on the number of question solved time in minutes will be awarded
to solve maze problem of first round.

Step2: Maze solving:

In this step team has to pick a slip from another black box which give them
the starting point and ending point of the maze.
At the starting of maze, the bot has to perform a predefined task which is
given in the slip and move to the exit point through maze and perform
predefined task at that point.
After completion of your task at end point of maze you can proceed to
next slip and continue maze solving till the end of allotted time.
Evaluation Criteria will be revealed at the time of event.

Pre-defined tasks:
1. @ --- rotate 360 degrees in clockwise.
Before and After rotation the bot must lie on the same axis.
This task has to be performed twice.
2. * --- perform zig-zag motion, the bot has to move forward
at least 7-inchs and should retrace the path in reverse to
settle in its initial position and perform the same in backward
direction. This task has to be performed twice.

7-inch

3. + --It has performed + model design.it is much similar to

above task, but now bot has to rotate 90 degree turn at
every zig-zag motion (only forward and backward up to its
position) to complete plus symbol.
Zig-zag motion
Rotate 90 degree right & zig-zag again.
Rotate 90 degree right & zig-zag again.
Rotate 90 degree right & zig-zag again.
Rotate 90 degree right & stop.

4. (minus) It has performed - model design.it is much

similar to above task, but now bot has to rotate 90 and 180
degree turn at respective zig-zag motion (only forward) to
complete minus symbol.
Zig-zag motion
Rotate 90 degree right & zig-zag again.
Rotate 180 degree right & zig-zag again.
Rotate 90 degree right & stop.
***predefined tasks may be performed appropriate and need
not to be accurate.
Round-2
Only the top 4 teams of Round-1 are allowed to participate in this Round.

Step 1:
Now each member of 4 teams are given same question concurrently on
one side of the parallel line which has one member of the team.
The team member has to stick the question to bot and should transfer
the question to other side while transferring if the question slips from
bot the team has to restart the bot from initial parallel line.
The other members of team should solve the question and send back
the answer by sticking it to the bot to initial parallel line.
The bot which crosses the line first after solving question will be allowed
first to reveal their answer written on slip stick to the bot to the judges.
The points will be awarded as follows
1st -2 points
2nd-1.5points
3rd-1 point
4th-0.5 point
No of question asked will be revealed on the spot at any point Judges
has right to change any rule and would be informed to the contestants.

STANDING POSITION OF TEAMS IN STEP 1

Step 2:
No of minutes given to perform the tasks and maze solving in step 2=No
of Points gained in step 1.
In this step team has to pick a slip from a black box which gives them the
starting point and ending point of the maze.
At the starting of maze, the bot has to perform a predefined task which is
given in the slip and move to the exit point through maze and perform
predefined task.
While solving the maze hurdles (automated gates) should not be hit by
bot otherwise have to bear the penalty.
While solving the maze the team member has to display the numbers they
pass by on 7 segment.
While solving the maze the bot has to glow LEDs as follows
while Right Turn-Red LED
Left Turn-Green LED
Straight-Blue LED
Pre-defined tasks:
### SAME AS ROUND 1
RULES:
The led colours assigned for each direction are fixed, they cannot be
modified.
Winner and Runner-ups are decided on the basis of total score.
