Curriculum Block Number N: 5 Topic: Biodiversity in Ecuador

Academic year educational objective (aim): OG.CN.2. Understand the point of view of science: the nature of living beings, their diversity, interrelations and
evolution. On Earth, its changes, its place in the Universe, and on the physical and chemical processes that occur in matter.
Lesson educational objective (aim): O.CN.2.1. Explore and understand the life cycles and essential characteristics of plants and animals, to establish similarities
and differences. Classify them into angiosperms or gymnosperms, vertebrates or invertebrates, respectively, and relate them to their habitat.

DIDACTIC CATEGORIES

From some perspectives it is considered that in order to teach, it is enough to transmit knowledge, (traditionalist
approach), in such a way that the student are the one that receives the information from the teacher. On the other
hand, constructivism maintains that the teacher should favor the construction of the knowledge of his students
through a more active work by the latter. All this transmission or construction of new knowledge is achieved through
a teaching-learning process, made up of five related teaching categories:

Objectives What (to teach for)

Contents What (to teach)
Methods (teaching strategies) How (to teach)
Media and resources What (to teach with)
Evaluation Why (to teach)

The lesson plan for Natural Sciences is planned for two sessions. This class to facilitate pedagogical communication
among the participants in an educational face to face, virtual or blended process.

The lesson class begins with a goal, which is the starting point and answers the question what to teach. As they
describe the learning activities and the effects that the student intends to achieve. In class planning, it is also
considered the contents or topics to be treated according to the proposed objective, in this case "Characteristics
and classification of vertebrates"

Then methods or strategies that may be effective for the class will be investigated. These are related to the content,
and have direct relation with the materials of didactic use. Therefore, the proposed strategies are group work,
socialization with colleagues (exposure, brainstorming, simulation and interactive games), the observation of several
videos and finally manipulate pre-designed objects, in the case to study the metamorphosis of frogs. All these
activities are summarized in three stages: anticipation, construction and consolidation.

After the first steps of the teaching-learning process, one must determine what to teach with; the media or
resources. In this sense, a blended teaching has been developed for class planning, where virtual activities are carried
out through videos, virtual visits, for which it is necessary to use technological devices. Practical activities use
markers, paper, magazines and basic concrete material used to simulate the different stages of the metamorphosis
of frogs.

The last step is evaluation. For the proposed topic, the evaluation is done in two parts. First: in the form of a summary
(preparation of the file), which will be discussed with all his peers. Second: evaluation through questions, activities
of the notebook and interactive game. Moreover, the evaluation aims to contribute to improving the quality of
teaching and learning processes and to verify if the resources used were feasible to meet the proposed objective.

Finally, the elaborated lesson plans allows to know the time and order in which the activities and exercises of
teaching must be developed. The development of a correct planning, following its process, helps the teacher to
develop their classes in a calm, dynamic and interactive way for their students.
