MREC Committee An Amazing Rockin Weekend

Selects Design-Build
Contractor
By DARRYL HOLYK

A lthough the Minnedosa Regional Events Cen-

tre (MREC) has been in the discussion and
planning stages for almost a decade, the project
has not had any announcements for some time.
That does not mean that the project is dead
things have been happening behind the scenes.
Some time ago, the MREC committee put out
a request for proposals for a design-build pack-
age from interested contractors. From this, seven
tenders were submitted. One did not include any
detail so the committee immediately took that bid
out of the running and focussed on the remaining
six. Those six were reviewed very closely and inter-
views were done with all six candidates. Following
those initial interviews, the candidates were then
shortlisted to three and each of those final three
bidders were re-interviewed by the MREC com-
mittee. The final three proposals saw two which
were around a similar price and another which Photos By Hillary Miller

RFM 2017 Continued From Page 1

There were some of Minnedosas service clubs vol-

unteering their time to man the bars, and sell drink to-
kens, and they all maintained a happy smile on their faces
throughout the weekend.

Brian Wenham, President of the RFM board, felt that the
year was a success all around. Everybody got along fine,
and all the artists were extremely happy with how they were
treated in Minnedosa, so we cannot complain aboutthat.
We took care of them well, and everybody left happy, which
is what we strive for. Wenham said he was happy with ab-
solutely everything. There were no hiccups or problems
during his first festival as head of the board, and for this, he
was thankful, having another term ahead of him.
Wenham also said that the demographic at the festival
did not shift to the extent that he thought it would have.
With some younger bands, such as the Arkells, which
might have brought a predominantly younger crowd to the
audience, there was a very good mixture of people. I dont
think the campgrounds were very full at all when they hit
the stage, and they were one of the most energetic bands I
think Ive ever seen on the main stage, said Wenham.
There were many people involved in making the festi-
val so wonderful this year, but in particular, Wenham want-
ed to mention the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, the Little
River Fish and Game, the Bombers, the Minnedosa Golf
Course and, everybody else who was a part of this.
If you missed this years events, be sure to plan to at-
tend RFM 2018 next August long weekend. Rock on!
