Student instructions

Task
Write a report that demonstrates an understanding of the chemical processes involved in an aspect of
the natural world or developed in response to an issue or need.
You will be assessed on the comprehensiveness of your report and on your evaluation of the impact of,
and issues that have arisen from, chemical processes.
You have 1 term of out-of-class time to individually complete this task.
In your report:
describe the chemical processes involved including appropriate chemistry vocabulary, symbols,
conventions and equations to give an account of the chemical processes occurring
elaborate on the steps involved in the chemical processes
make and explain links between chemical processes and the consequences of the chemical
processes for the environment or people
compare and contrast the links between chemical processes and their consequences
suggest possible solutions to any problems identified

Possible Chemical processes in the natural world (environmental) include:

Ozone depletion (Recommended) (Mrs Prendiville)

Ocean acidification (Recommended) (Ms Taylor)

Possible new technologies to resolve issues:

Energy production (fuel alternatives/new fuels/battery technology) (Mrs Blythe)

Pharmaceuticals (Tamiflu/anti-TB drugs) (Mrs Blythe)

YOU SHOULD CHOOSE ONE CONTEXT FROM EITHER LIST

The teacher indicated by each topic will be marking that topic. You must ask that
teacher for feedback if you wish to have feedback. You may only get feedback ONCE.
