thebearingclearances,Tooling(A)isanacceptablemethod.Tooling(A)islessaccurateonjournalswithsmalldiametersifclearancesare
lessthan0.10mm(0.004inch).

Leadwire,shimstockoradialboregaugecandamagethebearingsurfaces.

ThetechnicianmustbeverycarefultouseTooling(A)correctly.Thefollowingpointsmustberemembered:

Ensurethatthebacksofthebearingsandtheboresarecleananddry.

Ensurethatthebearinglockingtabsareproperlyseatedinthetabgrooves.

ThecrankshaftmustbefreeofoilatthecontactpointsofTooling(A).

1.PutapieceofTooling(A)onthecrownofthebearingthatisinthecap.
Note:DonotallowTooling(A)toextendovertheedgeofthebearing.

2.Usethecorrecttorqueturnspecificationsinordertoinstallthebearingcap.Donotuseanimpactwrench.Becarefulnottodislodgethe
bearingwhenthecapisinstalled.
Note:DonotturnthecrankshaftwhenTooling(A)isinstalled.

3.Carefullyremovethecap,butdonotremoveTooling(A).MeasurethewidthofTooling(A)whileTooling(A)isinthebearingcaporon
thecrankshaftjournal.RefertoIllustration1.
