INNOVATION SHELVES IN VERTICAL FARMING

1. Background/ Description

Lucban, Quezon is known for having a colourful harvest and festival. This municipality contains
large numbers of farms, many of Lucban residents own farms for them to use in their businesses and
aside from that, they have their own sources of food. But only some of the residents possess lots to
have their own farm. Not all of the Lucban residents have the opportunity to sow and harvest fruits and
vegetables to earn money and to have their own business. Some are not capable to own a lot because of
the lack of money. They also miss the opportunity to earn and sell some of the vegetables they harvest.
Only those people who possess their own lot have also the chance to receive fertilizer and seeds given
free by their municipal agriculture department.

So our group BINHI came up with the idea of innovating an agricultural system that gives
benefits to all of the residents of Lucban specially those people that needs and do not have their own
lots to plant. BINHI proposed the implementation of vertical farming in a lot where it can maximize the
spaces for the crops that will be planted. Inside the structures, the group also innovated the modular
shelves where variety of vegetables: root crops and leafy vegetables will be planted.
