DOCUMENTED QUOTE The State of Colorado, acting through and by the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC), is seeking Documented Quote proposals from prospective Bidders/Contractors, referenced in Colorado BIDS System solicitation no. 13-CAA-031. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The BVCC Lightning Protection project consists of field verification, design engineering, selective demolition, lightning protection systems, and associated work. SCOPE OF WORK Bidder/Contractor shall include, but not be limited to, engineering, fabrication, delivery, installation, inspection and certification of a complete system, including coordination with CDOC performed work, to include the following: A. Install/Upgrade lightning protection systems: 1. Generator Building (BV-163): a. Install lightning protection system to accommodate common grounding between the equipment, the structure and the utilities. b. Exterior Fuel Tanks: Install/Upgrade lightning protection. c. CDOC to perform: 1) improved generator bonds and bonding lugs to the structural steel, 2) generator equipment bond connection, and 3) surge protection devices on the incoming power. 2. Boiler House / Central Heating Plant (BV-162): a. Install lightning protection system to accommodate common grounding between the equipment, the structure and the utilities. b. CDOC to perform: 1) pump grounding to meet the NEC codes and requirements, and 2) surge protection devices on the incoming power. 3. CCAP Building (BV-85): Install a. Install lightning protection system to accommodate common grounding between the equipment, the structure and the utilities. b. CDOC to perform surge protection devices on the incoming power. 4. Sewage Treatment / Lift Station Building (BV-167): a. Upgrade lightning protection to meet current standards to date, including 1) isolation of dissimilar metals, 2) loose conductors that need to be refastened, and 3) installation of an air terminal at a flue stack. b. CDOC to perform surge protection devices on the incoming power. B. Upgrade Lightning protection systems at High Mast Light Poles (#10, #11, and #12): 1. Evaluate and Upgrade the light poles to ensure the existing lightning protection systems meet current standards to date. 2. Existing lightning protection conductor connection, wiring, and bonding between steel walls and caisson to be corrected. 3. Install new air terminals, Class II lightning protection conductors, and two grounding rods per light pole. NOTE: Provide UNIT PRICE for upgrades for each additional High Mast Light Pole SCOPE OF WORK PAGE 2 of 2 BVCC Lightning Protection TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standards (latest edition): (1) Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) Installation Requirements for Lightning Protection Systems, UL 96A; (2) National Fire Protection Association ( NFPA) Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems, NFPA 780; and (3) Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL) Lightning Protection Components, UL 96. Design: performed by a Master Installer/Designer Certified by The Lightning Protection Institute, with at least 5 years experience as a designer for projects of this magnitude. Submittals: design drawings and product data showing the type, size, and locations of all grounding, down conductors, through-roof / through-wall assemblies, roof conductors, and air terminals shall be submitted to the Project Representative for review. Manufacturer: system shall be the standard product of a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of lightning protection equipment, UL listed and properly UL labeled, and in accordance with accepted industry standards, UL, and NFPA requirements. Installer: installation company shall have at least 5 years of experience and be listed with Underwriters Laboratories for lightning protection installation. They shall also be an active member of the United Lightning Protection Association, Lightning Safety Alliance, and Lightning Protection Institute. The company will be also under the direct supervision of the designer. Inspection and Certification: upon completion of the installation, the Contractor shall furnish the Master Label issued by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for this system. If the protected structure is an addition to or is attached to an existing structure, the Contractor shall advise the CDOC in writing of any additional work required to achieve compliance with current UL Master Label requirements.
