Introduction: Easy Bluetooth Subwoofer
Speaker (80W)
Show All Items
Hi everyone!
Again I found some old speakers which we didn't use so I thought lets make something nice of
them :)
I designed a wooden box to put them in and this time I was looking for some nice wood.
The speakers I used are:
- Subwoofer 40W speaker
- Left and right speaker also about 35W
I bought an ampli er on ebay for 10$ and it works actually very good!
I use this speaker on my room and it has bluetooth so very handy to play music.

Step 1: Collect the Parts You Need

Show All Items
What do you need?
- Ampli er:Ebay
This subwoofer ampli er has a 40W subwoofer output and 20W left and right output.
If you got some higher power speakers you can use another subwoofer ampli er like this from
Ebay
I should not recommend the ampli er I used because it was diy kit so I needed to solder every
component separately.
- Bluetooth usb:Ebay
Still the best option for easy bluetooth installation and has a good bluetooth range.
The aux input can also be used so you have a double use of the bluetooth usb.
- 12V to 5V converter:Ebay
This module is used to convert the 12V from the power supply to 5V to power the bluetooth usb.
- 12V DC adapter:Ebay
You will need 2 of these to power the amp and the '12-5V converter' for the bluetooth usb.
- Speaker
I had some speakers laying around from my dad's old car, so I tought let's make something useful
with them!
- Switches: Ebay
I used toggle switches, one to power on the speaker amp and another to power on the bluetooth
module.
- Wood
My father brought me some wood in 2 colors so I could combine the grey and black to give it a
nice look.
- Wires
...

Step 2: Put Electric Parts Together

Show All Items
Bluetooth usb
First you need to open the bluetooth usb and solder wires to the tabs I marked with L, R and GND.
Now you need to connect these 3 wires to the aux input of the ampli er to transfer the audio
from the bluetooth usb to the ampli er.
Plug your usb into the 12V to 5V converter, and power the converter with 1 of your 12V power
supplies.
Power supply
You only need to plus 1 socket into the wall, so open the power supplies and connect both input
voltages together. Use the one plug and put the plug into the wood case so you can put you
power cable into it.
Switches
I putted 2 switches into the speaker.
The rst one will cut the main power (230V) so no current can ow through the power supplies
when powered of.
The second switch is placed between the 12V PS and the 12V-5V converter.
Ampli er
Connect the speakers to the inputs marked in the pictures.

Step 3: Make the Enclosure of the Speaker

Show All Items
Drilling holes
I made holes for the speakers, switches, volume knob, power on LED, AUX input.
Glue and screws
In the next step I glued all parts on the wood and after these were dry I could glue the hole
speaker together.
I screwed the back panel so I could always open it. I also made a hole in this backpanel to glue a
pvc pipe.
This is used so the air can escape while the subwoofer is doing his job.
Here are some pictures during the assemblage, but I forgot to make a lot of pictures so if you
have any questions ask me ;)

Step 4: Giving the Final Touch to the Speaker

T o o l s
Show All Items
If you have any questions, feel free to ask anything!
After I made this I thought it would be nice to make batteries inside, so they would be charging the
whole time, but when you want to take the speaker outside, it will be powered due the batteries.
Maybe an idea for some ;)

This is great But I suggest a Partition to be added for Subwoofer compartment. Otherwise it will
cause smaller speakers to resonate and introduce distortion.

your speaker looks really awesome but u should use a better Bluetooth module. Actually, this type
of Bluetooth module produces so much of noise. Anyway i really like the design.

bartroosen made it! (author)bartroosenReply2017-07-20

Thanks!
Yeah I know what you mean, but it's only noticable at very low volume so when I'm listening to
music at normal volume level you can't even hear it.
There are also small modules you can put between your aux to lter that bit of a noise.

Cliffystones made it! (author)CliffystonesReply2017-07-24

What I found after experimentation was that the noise was feeding back through the power
connection and contaminating the entire signal path. The little modules I mention above isolate
the BT module's noise, but allow the DC to pass into it. And guring it out nearly drove me to
drinkin" :).

If you mean that "tweedle-deedle" electronic noise you hear when listening to music over a BT
connection, then I have something for all of you folks! I'll create a separate comment above to
describe what I did.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THE LINKS. THEY DO NOT TAKE YOU TO EBAY.

First of all, yours is a beautiful design. And your woodworking skills are awesome.
Now, as promised, a way to practically eliminate the noise cause by those Bluetooth adapters.
I build tube ampli ers. I have added BT to several using the Sure Electronics module "KT Gadget"
links to. These are great modules and very quiet. But they are still kind of large for building a
smaller amp. I was at a trade fair and a fellow told me about the "Tiny Sine" BT modules. About 1/3
the size, so easy to tuck into smaller spaces. But noisy! I added a 3300mF cap at the circuit board
voltage input which helped. But when I want to hear Sarah McLachlan (my dream girl) sing "Angel"
live, I don't want to hear R2D2 screaming in the background.
A little "Googling" and Lo and Behold!
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/B0505S-1W-DC-DC-Is...
If the link is bad, search for part number B0505S-1W.
This is a 4-pin SIP chip. connect the 5 volt supply + to the input, the + output to the BT module,
connect both negative terminals together and connect them to the supply and the BT module. I
tried not combining the negative terminals, which killed R2D2 but the oating ground on the
module caused 60 cycle hum that was worse that the original noise. I can now crank up that amp
full blast with no music and not a peep of beep! And at under $2 shipped you can't lose.

Nice! Thank you very much

Wow!! This is awesome. I would like to put these all over my house. I love your batteries idea for
making it mobile as well. It would be cool to waterproof one so you didn't have to worry about
having it out by the swimming pool. Keep up the good work and great instructables!!

How many amps for the 12v to 5v power supply?

That is pretty awesome, I'm thinking of building one instead of buying another Bluetooth speaker.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi,
Another great instructable. I made a 2 x 3 W bluetooth speaker as per one of your other
instructables. I realize English is not your rst language so please take this in the spirit it is given.
Hole in English is "gat" in Dutch and whole is "geheel".

Dude so cool, awesome and smart all in one box. I have a question, when you bought the amp for
the 2 speakers (one a sub), does the amp send equal Watts to each speaker or how can you send
di Watts to each if you want? Just wanted to know cause you know how some songs sound di
and may want to tune it down or jam and pump up the bass. Thanks again for sharing your
project.

Thanks!
Sorry but I don't know that, I don't notice that the 2 L and R speaker aren't the same

KT Gadget made it! (author)Reply2017-07-20

I always like builds such as these because it's custom aesthetics. It's so awesome!
One module to consider is this Bluetooth 4.0 board that has some of the better audio transfers. It
would be easy to install since it's 12V input and that removes the 12-to-5V converter from the
build.

Thanks man! I will check out that module maybe if I make a new speaker!

Hello,
I have only one question. The speakers for the left and right channels are not the same? Really nice
looking build. Long time I am thinking about the same design.
Thank you

Your design is lovely - simple, minimal, but striking. Looks like a genuine piece of high-end
equipment. Well done!

This is a very sexy lloking little speaker. It de nitly can compare against any store bought one, but
has it's own unique touch to it :)
