PHYSICS CLASS IX

CHAPTER: MOTION

1. Differentiate between scalars and vectors. Give 3 examples in each case.

2. Classify scalars and vectors from following physical quantities (only names):
mass (quantity of matter), distance, time, temperature, area, volume, density,
pressure, speed ,displacement, velocity, weight (force), acceleration, momentum.

3. Differentiate/ compare Distance and Displacement. Give two points (minimum).

4. Differentiate/ compare Speed and Velocity. Give two points (minimum).

5. Derive 1st equation of motion graphically.

6. Derive 2nd equation of motion graphically.

7. Derive 3rd equation of motion graphically.

8. Define uniform circular motion. Is it a good example of accelerated motion? Why?

Show with a diagram direction of velocity as well as acceleration in case of a body
making circular motion.

9. Find distance and displacement of body in each one of the following situations.
(a) A body travels 25% of circumference of a circular path having radius r
cm.
(b) A body is thrown vertically upward from top of a building which is 30 m tall.
Body goes 5 m high above the top of building and then falls towards
ground and finally hits the ground.

10. A bus moves from stop A to stop B with a speed of 40 Km/h and then from
stop B to stop A with a speed of 50 Km/h. Find its average speed for the whole
journey. Express this speed in S.I. system also.

11. A car starts from rest and rolls down a hill with constant acceleration. It travels a
distance of 500 m in 20 sec. Calculate its acceleration. (Ans: 2.5 m/s2)

12. A body is coming down an inclined plane with an acceleration of 1 m/s2. If it

starts from rest, find the time after which its velocity becomes 5 m/s. (Ans: 5 sec)

13. A train accelerates uniformly from 30 Km/h to 60 Km/h in 30 sec. Find the
distance covered by it during these 30 sec. (Ans: 375m)

14. A bullet hits a wall with a velocity of 20 m/s and penetrates it upto a distance of 5
cm. Find the deceleration of the bullet in the wall. (Deceleration = 4000 m/s2)

15. A moving train is brought to rest within 40 sec by applying brakes. Find the initial
velocity of train if the retardation (uniform) due to brake is 5 ms-2.Find the distance
travelled by the train during this time. (Ans: u = 200 m/s, s = 4000 m)

(b) For how long does the body have zero acceleration?

(c) Find the acceleration of body during last 6 sec duration.

(d) Find distance travelled by body during whole journey of 12 sec.

17. Deduce the unit of acceleration in an unknown system of units, where unit of
distance is p and unit of time is q. (HOTS)

18. Express 3 equations of motion for an object moving with uniform velocity. (Hint:
uniform velocity means zero acceleration) (HOTS)

19.Two physical quantities a and b have graph between them as straight line
sloping up. What is the relationship between the two physical quantities? (HOTS)

20. For a graph shape of straight line sloping up starting from origin, between
distance and time, use 2nd equation of motion to deduce the relationship
distance time (Hint: uniform motion has no acceleration but has constant velocity)
(HOTS)

21. PASTE FOLLOWING GRAPHS IN YOUR LAB FILE AS PART OF SUBJECT
ENRICHEMENT.

Comment upon the type of motion, speed, acceleration, state of rest etc. Give
actual daily life example of same in the area in front of each graph. (Comment
as much as possible). Some situation may not be practically possible in daily
