The director's office should be near the public areas such as the restrooms, entry and
gathering area so he can see the goings on of the building he is responsible for. The
location does not need a mandatory adjacency to these area.

The restrooms should be a mandatory adjacency to the gathering and entry/

foyer area for those inquiring or simply gathering have a place to use the
restroom with ease.

The entry area should be close to the restrooms and the gathering area
because this is the center of the building for those inquiring and gathering.

Transitional Housing

The Transitional Housing, I chose was Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, located at 611

East Adams St. Jacksonville Fl. 32202. They can be contacted at (904) 359-0457. This is an

amazing organization, not only do they provide temporary housing, medical, and education they

are also in the works of building an entire community for homeless women, veteran women and

families in the greater Jacksonville area.

As of now they have temporary housing for homeless women to include those who are

veterans, and homeless families the temporary housing are dorm room style and families get the

whole dorm room to their selves to keep the families in one place. Their future plans which are

set to take place this fall is an entire community placed away from the Urban Core. The Village

is what they call it, is three stories high, on each floor there are common areas, and offices. The

first floor houses the childrens center, medical center, dining hall, where they are provided three

healthy meals a day, and commercial size kitchen, in addition to a computer lab, life style

learning centers, adult education centers and administrative offices. The second floor houses the

emergency units, respite units, studio and two bedroom apartments, along with common areas,

and offices. The third floor again holds emergency units, veterans units, studio and two

bedroom units along with the common areas and offices.

4 of
The facility is filling a void through donations from our community to our community. Our

community has a large population of homeless women with children, most are single women

with children, some are homeless women veterans and others are homeless families. These are

not people who choose to live like this, they want and need support from the community so they

themselves can eventually contribute to their communities. These people need shelter, food,

health care and education. At Sulzbacher they can receive that and more. At Sulzbacher not only

do the desire to give these people shelter, food, health care, and education, they want to give

them the respect, dignity, integrity, and equality. They want to be their advocates and they are

working with local business and colleges to help them achieve their goals of providing all of this

to the homeless women and children of Jacksonville.

The medical facilities are not only for the residents at the Sulzbacher, but for the entire

community in need in Jacksonville. They are a Federally Qualified Health Center, who work on

a sliding discounted rate. They also do not turn anyone away. The community helps with the cost

of medication, and medical care. The doctors and nurses are from the local Universities and the

interns come to work here as well. The services they provide are; primary care, behavioral

health, dental, and prescription assistance along with vision care.

At Sulzbacher their goals and ambitions are high, but with the help of the local business,

schools, government, and the Greater Jacksonville community at large these goals of eradicating

homelessness in Jacksonville can be met. Their vision is Ending homelessness one person at a

time. (web) The Village is a great place for the homeless women and children to learn to take

care of themselves and in turn be able to give back to others that are in need. In their own words

their mission is To empower homeless and at risk women, children and men through health,

housing and income services thereby restoring hope and self-sufficiency. (web)

FEDERAL STYLE OVERVIEW

Federal Style Design came about in 1780.

The force behind the design style was Robert Adam.
Robert Adam was an owner of the largest architectural firm in Britain.
The style was designed after the Roman Classicism Era.
There were many Renaissance influences found in the Federal Style Era such as garlands, swags, urn motifs and
geometric shapes.

Although The Heart Home is a temporary housing facility for homeless women and the children, The idea of the Heart Home
is to make this temporary housing a forever home in the hearts of those who stay. The feelings when walking through the
front door here will be the same feelings we all feel when we come home from a long day, a feeling of being grounded
knowing you are safe and comfortable. Knowing you can come here and make your life what you want. This place is
building confidence in those surrounded by the walls, and they are building relationships, goals and dreams. With the state
of the art security system those who stay here can be confident they are safe. They will be educating themselves and their
children with the educational centered common areas. The apartments will have there own locks and furnished in such a way
that makes them feel proud to call this their home, even if it's only until they can get out on their own. The colors of the
interior spaces will be warm, inviting, creative, the same way the women and children will feel while building their lives and
relationships.

CONCEPT STATEMENT
9 of
Color Palette One
Golden yellows, deep reds and greens were used throughout the
Federal Style. The dark red in this palette is exciting, and
emotional with the power to warm the body and create energy.
Red is connected to wealth and power. Yellow is commonly
associated with positive feelings and hopefulness along with
energy. The tone of green in this palette evokes a sense of
balance with all of the power of the yellow and red. It also
promotes openness and active listening.

10 of
Color Palette Two

Pink evokes a more gentle sense of love, such as with

a mother and child. It can be calming, optimistic and
give the feeling of hope. The color peach evokes a
subtle hint of warmth, and this shade of blue shows
confidence, intelligence, and creativity. Also the color
blue can lower one's blood pressure. Red is a very
dominate color, but this tone of red can represent
sophistication action and energy.

11 of
Color Palette Three
This golden color represents loyalty,
dependability, stable and tradition. This shade
of blue represents balance, stability, and
creativity. Introspection is in this shade of
blue, along with controlling one's emotions.
This shade of green represents growth and
renewal along with balance. This red has a
warm feel to it, such as home, it is grounding.

12 of
COLOR THEMES

These colors were chosen because together the have a sense of home, these colors are grounding and
Warm. They have a sense of balance, love and optimism. The pink in particular is the color of a gentle
Love. Confidence intelligence, creativity, and hope are all needed for those who will be staying at this
Temporary home and that is what these colors represent.

o The Lighting fixtures meet the needs of general lighting by way of recessed lights throughout, in
addition to overhead fixtures. There is permeant task lighting place by beds in the apartments and

o The Williamsburg Paint Color Collection was scientifically developed to replicate the colors during
