Course Welcome to Miss ORourkes 4th grade math online class! This class is
Information taught entirely online. It is a 12 week long course. At West Central
Online Elementary School, we love learning using our learning
management system at West Central Online. You can access this
system at www.wceonline.com.

In this 4th grade math class, we will get to learn about all kinds of things
like multiplying big numbers, long division, and even decimals! To help
us with this, each student has been
issued the 4th grade Math text book by
McGraw-Hill from the Rome City School
District. This book is required for this class.

Expected My students live in the Rome City School District which is located in the
Student beautiful state of Floyd County, Georgia, USA. This class is for students
Audience who have completed the 3rd grade math curriculum as assessed by our
Georgia state assessments.

Course In this course, 4th grade students will explore whole numbers, place
Description value, and rounding. Students will learn how to multiply and divide
whole numbers. Students will learn about fractions, fraction equivalents,
and operations with fractions: adding, subtracting, and multiplying.
Students will learn about decimals (my personal favorite) and even
geometry! Lastly, students will get to explore measurement. The math

Learning 1. The student will be able to (TSWBAT) express numbers to 100,000


Outcomes in standard, expanded and word forms with 90% accuracy on
the Georgia Milestones Standardized Math Test (GMSMT).
2. TSWBAT solve multi-digit multiplication and division problems with
90% accuracy on the GMSMT.
3. TSWBAT identify place values of digits with 100% accuracy on the
GMSMT.
4. TSWBAT identify equivalent fractions and decimals with 80%
accuracy on the GMSMT.
5. TSWBAT write and solve numbers sentences for one-, two-and
three-step real-world problems with 90% accuracy on the
GMSMT.
6. TSWBAT explain the relationship among area formulas for
different polygons with 90% accuracy on the GMSMT.
7. TSWBAT construct line plots, tables and line graphs with 90%
accuracy on the GMSMT.
8. TSWBAT use mental math and estimation strategies to find sums,
differences, products and quotients with 90% accuracy on the
GMSMT.

Expectations of Students are expected to:


Student 1. Write one original response to all discussion forum questions
Participation posed by Miss ORourke.
2. Reply to at least 3 peers original posts.
3. Complete all math exercises independently unless otherwise told
by Miss ORourke.
4. Upload all assignments on time to the dropbox as required by the
course calendar.
5. Join synchronous class sessions- every Thursday at 4pm. Logon
using you West Central username and password.

6. Complete XtraMath (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and
division facts) using the username and password provided by
Miss ORourke.
7. Take the required quizzes each week.

Student 1. Always use kind words! Generally, if you wouldnt like someone
Communication saying it to you, then dont say it to someone else.
Expectations 2. Proofread your posts and comments. This might be a math class,
but I expect your best effort when writing.
3. Reply to all emails and calls from Miss ORourke within 24 hours.
4. Feel free to ask any questions that you have!

Late Work Policy Late work will only be accepted if it has been discussed with Miss
ORourke. If the student has any questions about the required
assignments, call Miss ORourke to discuss them. The learning coach
can make the call when appropriate. No other late work will be
accepted if it has not been discussed with Miss ORourke.

Grading Policy All assignments have equal weighting and are worth 100 points. These
assignments include discussion post and responses, XtraMath facts,
quizzes, math exercises, and synchronous class sessions.

The cumulative grading scale for West Central Online Elementary:


90%-100% A
80%-89% B
70%-79% C
69% and lower will require intervention

Assessments Assessments include 3 lesson quizzes that match the learning objectives
for the week. Students will also be required to engage in 3 discussion
forums each week. Students will complete the XtraMath facts over the
course of the class. Student must receive a 100% on addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division facts through XtraMath. Finally,
at the end of the unit there will be one GA Milestones Math Standards
of Excellence aligned test.
Grading criteria can be downloaded from the course curriculum tab at
www.wceonline.com/grading.
These criteria include:
-Quizzes: automatically graded with answer key and teacher-graded
answers
-Discussion Posts and Responses: discussion forum checklist
-XtraMath: must make 100% on all math facts and operations
-Unit test: combination computer-graded and teacher-graded with
acceptable answers list

Academic Students are expected to complete their work independently unless


Honesty otherwise noted. If a student requires extra help from the learning
coach, please include a note specifying the amount and type of help
provided. This will help Miss ORourke identify where she needs to
provide better instruction to help students be more independent. Any
concerns that the learning coach has regarding student honesty
should be directed to Miss ORourke immediately.
Consequences for academic dishonesty may include:
1. Warning for first offense
2. Call to parents and learning coach
3. Academic penalty such as a grade of 0 out of 100 given for the
assignment
4. Failure of course with the requirement to retake it from the beginning
5. Removal from the online school back to the brick-and-mortar school

Acceptable Use The Rome City School District network is intended for educational
Policy purposes only. The Acceptable Use Policy can be found at
www.wceonline.com/aup.
The key points in the policies include:
1. All activity over the network or using district technologies may be
monitored. 2. Access to online content via the network may be
restricted in accordance with our policies and federal regulations, such
as the Childrens Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
3. Students are expected to follow the same rules for good behavior
and respectful conduct online as offline.
4. Misuse of school resources will result in disciplinary action.
5. The school district makes a reasonable effort to ensure student safety
and security online, but cannot be held accountable for any harm or
damages that result from use of school technologies.
6. Users of the district network or other technologies are expected to
alert IT staff immediately of any concerns for safety or security.

Student Right to Here at West Central Online Elementary School, we follow the rules for
Privacy students privacy as outlined in the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act (FERPA), which can be found at

1. Parents or eligible students have the right to inspect and review the
student's education records maintained by the school.
2. Parents or eligible students have the right to request that a school
correct records, which they believe to be inaccurate or misleading.
3. Generally, schools must have written permission from the parent or
eligible student in order to release any information from a student's
education record. 4. Schools may disclose, without consent, "directory"
information such as a student's name, address, telephone number,
date and place of birth, honors and awards, and dates of attendance.

Technology Students must have the following tools to participate effectively in class:
Requirements 1. Internet connected computer (dial-up service is insufficient)
2. XtraMath Account (provided by Rome City)
3. Online Textbook Account
4. Google Email Address and Google Classroom (Miss ORourke will
send you an invitation to join the day class begins)
5. Basic devices such as keyboard and mouse

Statement ORourke. The Rome City School district owns all content with the
exception of the McGraw-Hill textbook and digital resources, which are
owned by McGraw-Hill. Course and course materials are not to be
copied, edited, or redistributed for any purpose. If you have questions

Students with Rome City School District has an obligation under the Individuals with
Disabilities Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 04) to identify, locate, and evaluate all
students with disabilities in the district who are in need of special
education and related services from ages 0 through 21 years,
