Dear Madam/Sir,

Re: PROGRAM COORDINATOR F/M-NIGERIA

I am a Cameroonian and holder of a Master Degree in Disaster Management from the University of
Copenhagen with many years of relevant work experience. This gives me a comprehensive understanding of
the three interrelated processes of disaster management (preparedness, response and recovery), as well as a
good understanding of the core competencies to deliver timely, efficient and cost-effective people-centered
humanitarian programs. I am a strong advocate of mainstreaming DRR while linking relief work, recovery
and development. I have worked as a humanitarian personnel for the past 7 years in various sectors including
Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) as a team leader with ACEEN Cameroon(NGO). In addition to that,
I participated in a practical hands-on program in Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (VCA) in
Bangladesh and later, worked with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as part of the United
Nations System in emergency response/recovery. I also, come with additional years of experience in
teaching and facilitating; Monitoring and Evaluation(M&E); assessments and analyses; targeted assistance;
proposal writing and reporting; and humanitarian project management which I find relevant to this position.

The position of Program Coordinator offers me the unique opportunity to passionately use my experience,
expertise and knowledge in disaster management as well as my understanding of the wonderful concept of
sustainable development to help Secours Islamique France (SIF), the humanitarian community,
implementing partners, beneficiaries and other stakeholders, to seize the window of opportunity in
disasters to save lives, restore food security, rebuild livelihoods, protect the environment, build resilience,
peace and social cohesion of communities that have been eroded by conflict, displacement, climate change,
and many years of marginalization and underdevelopment in Nigeria. Having been a project manager for
many years, I am proficient in different approaches to problem-solving in order to attain defined goals in a
coordinated, systematic and principled manner. Skills in community-based management will enable me to
facilitate the development of emergency/recovery programs that are rooted in community structures, with
community awareness of hazards; community involvement; accountability, trust, mitigation and
preparedness as the basis for community buy-in and ownership.

Furthermore, with the increase in the case loads and more constrained funding, there is an urgent need to
develop innovative solutions (climate and market smart production) to counteract vulnerabilities, build
capacities and address the needs of the vulnerable populations in a sustainable manner. By drawing
inspiration from best practices from major disasters/conflicts and aligning projects to SC Humanitarian
Policy, Humanitarian Principles and Minimum Standards (SHERE and CHS). I will assist to ensure that the
programs implemented, are people-centered and incorporate disaster risk reduction, climate change
adaptation and sustainable natural resources management that will promote reconciliation, jump-start local
economies, combat hunger, protect the environment, foster peace and diminish vulnerabilities.

While working for Modern Consultants as an M&E officer and in data collection for the Displacement
Tracking Matrix (DTM) with the IOM, I participated and facilitated data collection, assessments and
analyses. A combination of quantitative and qualitative participatory data collection skills will enable me to
help in multi-stakeholder rapid assessments, monitor and evaluate projects to provide SC, colleagues, and
partners with real-time data to formulate policies to better orientate projects in accordance with the project
objectives with medium and long-term implications which I find relevant for this position.

By choosing me, SC will be gaining an employee that is committed, enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, a team
player and someone who thinks in terms of solutions towards the building of flourishing communities. I have
no doubts that my French and English language proficiency is sufficient for reporting and representing SC
across different platforms with different partners. My colleagues, describe me as service oriented which
derive from my can do attitude, tenacity, flexibility, ability to lead, build trust and foster productive
relationships across the organization.

I hope that my application and enclosed CV meet with your interest and that you would like to see me for an
in-depth interview.
Yours Sincerely,
Emmanuel.
