filed a lawsuit against the state to challenge the former Commissioner’s
decision to stop the bear hunt.

The USSAF and others argued that the hunt was adopted based upon
recommendations made by wildlife professionals. Sportsmen also argued
that Jackson and then Governor Jon Corzine, who indicated publicly that
he opposed bear hunting, stopped the hunt because it went against their

Call me crazy but that does not sound pro-hunting. And I do not think
that educational information about bear-proofing your garbage needs
any significant funding. Such advice is all over the Internet, or you could
even pick up the phone and call the game and fish department.

From time to time, I hear it said that the Sierra Club is pro-hunting, not And the conservation officers New Jersey already has don’t have time to
in New Jersey... be conservation officers because they—and the police—are too busy
answering bear nuisance complaints, coaxing bears off porches and away
from school bus stops, and dragging road-killed bears off the highways.

As for management plans “that actually work,” Sierra Club NJ might do

well look at nearby states like New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Virginia, West Virginia – all of which have bear hunting seasons– and
compare the rate of bear nuisance complaints, not to mention the overall
health of the bear populations in those states.

Hunting in those states has kept bears within their carrying capacity,
whereas in New Jersey, bears are fast outpacing theirs.

Both kits feature different grits of sharpening stones which will allow

This is SureFire’s philosophy of Total Signature Reduction™. Contrary to
existing suppressor models, which typically degrade performance of a 1-2
MOA (Minute of Angle) rifle to 3-4 MOA—sometimes as much as 8
MOA, SureFire suppressors typically improve grouping sizes.

Most suppressors also cause a shift in a weapon’s point-of-zero when

attached or detached. But under fire, an operator seldom has the time to
re-zero his weapon after attaching a suppressor. With a SureFire
Suppressor, there is no need to re-zero the weapon. Its Fast-Attach
mechanism locks the suppressor onto the firearm in the same position
every time, producing a negligible, repeatable point-of-impact shift.

And SureFire Suppressors are as durable as the barrels they’re mounted

In a written statement, Almy said he tried to run away from the bear, but
then remembered what he had learned on a “cougar poster” he read
while visiting a campground in the Cibola National Forest.

“I picked up a branch and some stones and threw them at the

bear” Almy said. “The bear ran away, but stayed at some
distance. I went back to my tent, but the bear was still close
so I threw another rock.”

The camper told Martsh the Sufi students were storing food in a cement
or block building with no door on it.

“It sounds like there’s quite a bit of trash there, also, and
other things that would be interesting to bears,” Martsh said.
