155-mm Long Range Land Attack Projectile
(LRLAP)
The 155-mm Long Range Land Attack
Projectile (LRLAP) fired from the Advanced
Gun System (AGS) on board the U.S. Navys
next-generation DDG 1000 destroyer
provides all-weather, 24/7 precision fire
support to Marine Corps and Army forces
engaged in expeditionary warfare or urban
operations in coastal cities from a range
of up to 74 nautical miles. Its mission is to
attack troops, entrenchments, mechanized
infantry, and armor on land at long range.
The 155-mm LRLAP is a gun-launched
munition capable of delivering a unitary
High Explosive (HE) payload.
The fuze system includes the warhead safe
and arm device, the rocket motor ignition
safety device, and associated electronics.

The ability to put multiple rounds on target Specifications
at the same time for Multiple Round Primary mission Land attack
Simultaneous Impact (MRSI)provides
devastating effects on enemy targets Secondary mission Antisurface warfare
inland. Drawing from a fully-automated Round
handling and storage system holding a Projectile 155-mm
total of 600 rounds in two magazines, Propulsion Rocket motor
each AGS gun will be capable of firing up Guidance GPS/IMU guided
to 10 rounds per minute. Length 88 inches/2.2 m

With DDG 1000 as part of a naval task Range up to 74 nautical miles
force, the AGS will launch LRLAP from Rate of fire 10 rpm
over the horizon to prepare and shape
the battlefield. Precision fires and flexible MRSI 6 rounds within 2 sec
response will also provide the support
for asymmetric warfare. The LRLAP
uses advanced, g-hardened electronics
including a Global Positioning System
(GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS)
technologies to withstand the gun-launch
environment, as well as to provide
precision effectiveness and minimize
collateral damage. The enhanced precision
means that fewer rounds can produce
more lethal effects at less cost.
