The Printing Press through History

Name: Csar Pineda Date: May 3rd, 2016

The media are important and useful ways that help people to communicate
information. There are different types of media which can be used to convey the
ideas from one person to another. In this way, they have been used since a long time
ago. The printing press which is the most ancient medium made the difference in
how began the ideas globalization in our world.

The printing was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440 but was in 1450 when it
began to use. Gutenberg based the invention on the Chinese technique which was
brought to Europe by Marco Polo. He combined this technique with the block printer
and as a result the printing press.

There was a big difference when the invention began to be used. Before the printing
press, the only books were reproduced by Monks. They had to copy by hand and
sometimes they made mistakes. These books were bought by the upper class
because they were too expensive.

After that, with the arrival of the printing, the production of books was easy and fast,
the prices declined and all the people were available to buy and read them. It marked
a turning point in history. The first regular news was the Relation in 1605 from the
Strasbourg and the oldest newspaper is the Post-och Inrike Tidninger whose first
published was in 1645 from the Swedish.

Then, how every single person had the opportunity to read, knowledge began to
increase. In fact, there were many books that challenged the stablish ideas.
Specifically, two of them were: On the revolutions of heavenly spheres by
Copernicus and Francis Bacon book, a philosopher, who highlighted three
inventions: the printing, gunpowder and the compass. They changed the appearance
of the world.

In my opinion, the printing press was an ingenious invention and one of the most
important. While it is true, the printing press is not attended as many years ago
because of the new ways of media but it made a change in all the things that we
know. It was the beginning of the new technological advances and it has still been
present in our mobile devices.
