Assemblymember 44th District

June 13, 2017

Polly Trottenberg
Commissioner
New York City Department of Transportation
55 Water St
New York, NY 10041

Dear Commissioner Trottenberg,

I am writing in support of the NYC Department of Transportations plan to create bike lanes on 10th and 11th Avenues
between McDonald and Prospect Park Southwest in Windsor Terrace. Of primary concern is pedestrian, bicycle and
vehicular safety, especially so close to PS 154, an elementary school. These lanes, which will be well-used by the many
bicycle commuters in my district, are an important part DOTs strategy to calm and reduce traffic in this quiet
neighborhood populated by so many young families. I am also supportive of reducing 11th Avenue to one traffic lane
through the use of an extra-wide parking lane, and the added bike lane. Besides reducing and slowing traffic, the bike
lanes encourage alternative transportation and healthier lifestyles.

I urge DOT to execute these plans before the 2017/18 school year begins so local drivers and families with school age
children have a chance to become accustomed to the changes.

If you have any questions on this matter, please reach out to Mary Kay Seery in my office at (718) 788-7221.

Regards,

Assemblymember Robert Carroll
