Lesson Plan with SBM-WinS Integration

Earth and Life Science Grade 12

I. Objectives:
During the 1-day session, the students should be able to;

1. Understand the circulatory system of the human body.

2. Describe the parts and functions of the heart.
3. Determine the heart beat by taking the pulse.
4. Appreciate the importance of the circulatory system.
(S11/12LT-IIIaj-20)

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: The Circulatory System
b. Concept: How Animals Survive
c. References:
CG, TG, LM, SBM-WinS Manual, eSkwela
(c:\Users\bernaldo\Desktop\DepEdDoc\LRMDS files\Resources
to be Evaluated\LS2I The Circulatory System\main.html)
Materials:
PC/laptop, LCD projector, empty bottle, plastic glass, science
notebook, ballpen, pencil and eraser.

III. Procedure:
a. Preliminary Activities (10 Mins.)
1. Prayer, checking of attendance
2. Pre-test

b. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation (5 Mins.)
Watch a video presentation from eSkwela about The
Circulatory System.
(c:\Users\bernaldo\Desktop\DepEdDoc\LRMDS
files\Resources to be Evaluated\LS2I The Circulatory
System\main.html).

Guide Questions:
a. What can you say about the video presentation?
b. What are the vital organ systems in our body?
c. Do you have an experience in running in a field? How
do you feel right after?
d. Are you now excited to discover about this?

2. Activity (5 Mins.)
Before we start the lesson, allow me to show a video
presentation for you to follow the instruction to do the
activity.
(c:\Users\bernaldo\Desktop\DepEdDoc\LRMDS
files\Resources to be Evaluated\LS2I The Circulatory
System\main.html).

3. Analysis (5 Mins.)
Ask the following Questions:
a. What can you say about the activity given?
b. What action did you make in order to let the water
out of the bottle?
c. How long did it take you to fill the cup at a normal
pace?
d. What did you do in order to fill the cup faster?

4. Abstraction (15 Mins.)

Ask the following Questions:
a. What is Circulatory System?
b. What are the three (3) main parts of the circulatory
system?
c. What is a heart?
d. Describe on how the different parts of the hearts
functions?

5. Application (15 Mins.)

The Facilitator will show video presentation on how to
determine the heart beat by taking the pulse. Students will
follow the procedure individually:
(c:\Users\bernaldo\Desktop\DepEdDoc\LRMDS
files\Resources to be Evaluated\LS2I The Circulatory
System\main.html).
1. The rate at which the heart beats can be determined
by the taking the pulse. To take your pulse, place the
middle and index fingers of one hand on the wrist of
the other hand. Move your fingers slightly until you
feel a throbbing point.
2. Count the number of beats in 15 seconds. Multiply
this number by 4. The value you will get is the
number of times your heart beats per minute. For
example, if you counted 17 beats in 15 seconds and
multiplied by 4, this means that your heart beats per
minute.
3. Sit quietly on a chair. Take your pulse.
4. Walk briskly around the room for around 1 minute.
Then immediately take your pulse.
Ask the following Questions:
1. What did you notice?
2. Is it faster or slower than the one you
took previously?
3. Why do you think your heart rate change?
5. The performance will be rated according to the
following:

Performance Criteria:

95% - Has followed all correct procedure in

determining the heart beat by taking the pulse.
85% - Has not followed the correct procedure in
the heart beat by taking the pulse.

c. Generalization
Determine the heart beat by taking the pulse.

d. SBM-WinS Integration
d.1 Water refers to a clear, colorless and tasteless liquid
used for drinking and for other purposes such as cleaning,
handwashing, etc.
d.2 Hygiene refers to conditions and practices to help
maintain good health and prevent the spread of diseases.

e. Values Integration
In determining the heart beat by taking the pulse
develops time management, self-discipline, self-confidence,
innovation and patience.

IV. Assessment (5 Mins.):

Answer the following statements by TRUE or FALSE under Lets See
What You Have Learned.
(c:\Users\bernaldo\Desktop\DepEdDoc\LRMDS files\Resources to
be Evaluated\LS2I The Circulatory System\main.html).

V. Assignment:
Read the next lesson about The Need for Homeostasis.

Remarks:
No. of learners within mastery level: ____
No. of learners needing remediation/Reinforcement: ____

Note:
The Application Part should be done individually.
