Our Feelings for Our Environment

Our environment is essential to humanitys survival, a clean

environment is necessary to live a healthy and peaceful life. A life
where animals and plants thrive and trees grow big and strong. They
are gifts from God and we should cherish and nurture them but as the
human civilization grows, problems like pollution arise. It ruins the
natural environment, contaminates our water ways, pollutes our air,
poisons our lands and worst of all; harms the health of people,
animals and plants alike.

We should be working towards solving the problems of our Earth but

very few are truly aware of the causes of this destruction. Because of
our ignorance, we continue to think of our practices not as misdoings
but as progress. We cannot continue to let our ignorance be the path
to destruction of our natural environment. Now is the time to change
for the better. We dont need to do giant projects, we can just start
small. Every action matters, all we need to remember is that we need
to right our wrongs. We must move swiftly before it is too late for us
to save our environment. We need to change our practices and
especially our way of thinking. We need to protect whats left of

A Blast from Nutrition Month

July is the month for nutrition, when we are encouraged to eat our
veggies and fruits. As the saying goes; an Apple a day keeps the
Doctor away. It also encourages us to be physically fit, and be more
proactive; enjoying sports and having fun. We also held our annual
Intramurals, where students compete to be the best of the best. A
friendly rivalry ignites and pushes the students to the best of their
abilities to compete for the Municipal Games. We are also
encouraged to join a potluck party where all kinds of healthy foods
are present. From vegetables to meat, from water to juice. A great
time we had and more to come.
Responsibility

What comes out of your mind when you hear the word Responsibility?
It means that you shouldnt just focus about yourself and your wants and
needs but rather on what is needed to be done. Responsibility is a value that
is not just followed at home but as well as in schools and everywhere in
general.
Responsibility is not just obeying an
order, it is following and prioritizing your
tasks at the same time. Being a responsible
person doesnt mean that you just obey an
order, but you also go the extra mile and
doing it to the best of your abilities.
With great power comes great responsibility.
That means that with being an important role you have a lot more
responsibilities to tend to. You will become responsible for the people around
you and everything they need and do. For example, when you are elected as
president of your class, you cant just enjoy the authority and privileges you
have, but more importantly you should be doing your role of looking out for
your classmates-their needs and concerns. You should also see to it that your
class is harmonious within itself and with other classes and even then, as a
class president it is also your responsibility to take care of other classes as
well. Thats a lot, isnt it? And thats not even all of it. So in general, its safe to
say that responsibility is not a joke. Responsibility is accepting the task given
to you and going the extra mile- its a tough job but someone needs to do it. It
can be anyone; and in fact, the very best person to be responsible is yourself.
Light the Flame, Ignite the
Passion

Last July 2016, from the 29th to the 30th day, an
exciting, fun-filled activity was held at Our Lady of
Joy Learning Center. The annual Intramurals
celebration took place. The Intramural celebration
was made to encourage students to participate in
different sports within the school such as
basketball and volleyball to develop their skills and
talents. more than that, the celebration makes the
students exercise the value of good sportsmanship
and enjoy camaraderie with their fellow players
and group mates. It is also during the Intramurals
that the students work together in their
perspective teams to form dance and cheer
routines to present and to encourage positivity
with the crowd and with the other teams.
On the first day of Intramurals, everyone was in
high spirits. The four teams; namely Pink, Green,
Lavender, and Blue all wanted to win as many
sports as possible to get the title as the over-all
team champion. Early morning that day, the drum
and bugle corps joined us at the opening ceremony
and was supposed to lead us in our parade.
However, due to the bad weather, the parade was
postponed and was moved to July 31,2016 during
our Annual Food Fiesta and at the same time, our
ending ceremony. But even then, the bad weather
did not affect the joyful mood and friendly
competitiveness among the participants. The
games continued and everyone enjoyed the
activities throughout the day and in the next that
followed. The rest of the days were filled with
positive energy and it doubled along with
excitement during the last day of games when the
championship games were played. The teams that
played in the championship game for volleyball
were the Lavender and Blue teams while in
basketball it was the Blue and Green teams. All the
teams played the best that they could and
competed for the championship title. The Jugan
Community gym, where both games were played
in, was full of encouraging yells and cheers and
banners; the whole place buzzed with excitement
and anticipation. Both games were packed with
action. All teams did the best they could but it was
the Blue team that emerged victorious in both the
basketball and volleyball games. they were later
awarded during the closing ceremony program.
The Intramurals is not just a common school
activity for it pushes each child to do his/her best
to help not only themselves but their entire team.
Bonds and friendships are strengthened within and
between teams. That is, after all, the true goal of
the Intramural games. Not only is it a showcase of
ones skills and potentials, it is also a building
ground of character, values that will embolden
each person to be a better student, team mate and
friend.
 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE

The international day of peace is always celebrated every 21st of September. Last year's celebration was held at Plaza
Independencia wherein different schools and organizations actively participated. Our schools' Performing Arts members
and chosen students luckily had the chance to perform different presentations during this significant event. A parade
happened around the plaza as peace symbols were distributed. Then a solemn prayer in different languages was offered
in the name of peace. We were so glad that our school got the opportunity to lead the prelude of the national anthem at
the beginning of the program. Each school presented their own way of understanding peace, some presented a role play
about calamities and what may happen if we dont heal or try to make our world peaceful. The others also introduced
their Peace and Goodwill ambassadors, there was musical presentation to show how great would it be to have a peaceful
and calm mind and of course our school presented Hello, Bonjour! that joyfully greets all the children of the world.
Students from our school were filled with joy by being a part of the International Day of Peace celebration which is a
peace movement that encourages everyone around the world, most especially the youth, to live in peace and harmony.
We also celebrated our own Peace Day program in school later that same day. We had a very short but meaningful
program. All the students were gathered together and had made their own peace symbols, wishes and prayers. Our
school will always make time to celebrate this special day even in the simplest of ways in order for us, students to be
always aware that all the good deeds we did and we will do contribute a lot in making our world not just a better place
but the best place to live in; and to always remember that the key to a peaceful and harmonious world is in our hands
because after all, Peace starts within each of us.

What makes us Happy

Happiness is having inner peace and satisfaction.
Happiness is a choice and an opportunity. It is an attitude
that makes us fell joyful or sad. Just be positive and look
on the bright side, be a JOY. Smile, be thankful and enjoy
life. Be happy for yourself and for others. Choose to be
happy and friendly. Think of the good things and of how
lucky you are to have your life. Dont be sad, theres
always a reason to smile.

Around the World at OLJ

Family Day 2016

Family Day has been a yearly event in school usually
falls on the month of November. One of the
promising activities which involves the students with
their respective families participating in this event,
henceforth, Our Lady of Joy Learning Center has
successfully done. There were a number of activities
including, horror and movie booth, sing-along corner
where video key has always been fun to music lovers
and aspiring singers. The program was made lively
with the participation of each graders in their
respective dance presentations. Amazingly, there was
a parade of recycled suits and gowns with its
spectacular designs of costumes specifically made by
students per grade level. BINGO game gave thrill to
aspiring lucky winners and thereafter was a Zumba
dance led by a gym instructor, giving the parents the
chance to sweat out. The program was formally
closed by the School Administrator, Ms. Rose
Maghuyop who then thanked all the parents for
joining the activities. The whole activity was fantastic.

The United Nations, or the UN, is an International
organization that promotes peace and cooperation. It helps
improve, support and give relief to every member countries
experiencing natural disasters and war. While in our school, the
UN is a fun-filled activity where we explore new things about the
different countries we were assigned. We learn to appreciate
different cultures, languages and literatures, religions, food and
cuisines. We learn about the country itself and its people. Each
classroom puts up displays to make the classroom look like a
scene in the country. The students also dress up in traditional
costumes and make passports to travel to the other countries.
Not only do the students dress up but they also perform the
traditional dances here in school for everyone to see. After the
performances we tour families and students around each
country, showing people the culture, economy, history, and
other aspects of the country. Before leaving the country, they
get a souvenir in the form a treat or trinket from each country.
Everyone, parents, teachers and students, enjoy all the tours.

by the school, community involvement should be taken
into consideration.
With it being my first year at OLJ LC, I have observed that
the school has been continuously doing the outreach
movement which is more than enough because almost
all the nearby people living just around the vicinity had
been given attention especially those below the poverty
level. I was also amazed and very thankful to God that
this institution really caters to the needs of the people in
and around it. As a conclusion, I hope that the school will
continue its mission to help the oppressed and sick
dwellers not just near the school but even beyond its
parameters.
 OLJ Achievements in 2016

As years have gone by, our school has been
consistent in joining in contests and in gaining
achievements. One of it this school year was during
the Consolacion Municipal Meet 2016, two of our
students fortunately won! Joshua Earl Acedo, a grade
10 student won second place in the Lawn tennis
competition, and another grade 10 student, Mayumi
Mari Maghuyop won second runner up in the Mr.
and Ms. Municipal Meet 2016, although the two of
them did not win first place, they both did marvelous
jobs. We also congratulate Ma. Chabeh Perolino, also
another grade 10 student for winning third place in
the Essay Writing Contest during the English Festival
2016 and bringing great pride and joy to our school.

We also congratulate and thank all the other

students who joined in the many other interschool
programs and contests. Thank you for doing your
best and for bringing JOY and pride to our school.

We should be grateful to our Lord for these

achievements and congratulate each student who
participated in these events and competitions who
did their best even if it didnt mean they were sure to
win. Failure is the key to success so we should not be
afraid to fail. The prize money from all the winnings
will be added along with the fundraised money to
help make the feeding program of the school the
best that it can possibly be. Isn't that great? With all
the wonderful blessings we have received, the best
thing we can do is to give back to the world in the
best way possible- through sharing and spreading the
joy.

Being able to study here again was enjoyable in my

part since returning to this school meant that I was
able to reconnect with old friends and teachers. My
mother would often ask me if I was enjoying my stay
here and each time she asked my answer would always

only focuses on academics but also in helping a child
develop to their full potential. So during the school
year 2016-2017 I was able to learn a lot, during the first
few months I was able to easily adapt to the change of

Our Lady of Joy, operating since 1994, celebrated its 22nd --
