Project Description
A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to serve as a English Language Teaching
and Exam Specialist with the National Exam Centre (NEC), in Skopje, Macedonia. The NEC is an
important stakeholder which contributes to improving the quality of education in primary and
secondary schools in Macedonia. The NEC is responsible for the preparation, organization and
administration of the State Matura exams. NEC) would like to introduce changes to the English
Language Matura Exam to improve the quality of the English language exam. To accomplish
this they need to develop better testing procedures and provide better training to item writers
to utilize new ideas. A English Language Teaching and Exam Specialist with a relevant
advanced degree and experience is needed to build the capacity of the National Examinations
Centre staff in the following areas: item writing (multiple choice and short answer questions),
developing new procedures for administering tests, sharing experiences administering tests,
and working with staff to improve their English speaking skills. The goal of this assignment is
to the build the capacity of the NEC staff so that they are well-trained item writers, better
prepared test administrators, and have better English speaking skills.
