Class Direct Service Experience

As we arrived in the New Bilibid Prison Medium Security Compound, we were escorted

by the student-inmates to the hall where the program was conducted. We started the day with

the prayer, led by one of the prisoners. Then, the showcasing of the different talents of the

inmates began. Some of them sang English and OPM songs, danced and presented a comedy skit

in which we, the Lasallians appreciated and applauded.

After the first part of the inmates presentation, our class also had our performers. These

were (insert name here) and (insert name here) who serenade the inmates with their sweet

voices. Meanwhile, (insert name here) showcased her dance moves on the floor. Seeing them

smile from cheek to cheek warms our hearts as we had made their day a little bit brighter.

During lunch, we interacted with the inmates as we ate our respective meals. This gave

us the opportunity to bond with them and to know them better. Despite them being reluctant to

open themselves at first, this did not impede us to be able to communicate and successfully

interact with them.

Following this, games were played both by us and the inmates, such as: Hep Hep Hooray,

Pinoy Henyo, Pass the Drawing and the Newspaper Dance. This part of the day was the highlight

of both us and the inmates. These games helped further strengthen the bond the inmates and us

had during lunch. We felt at this time that we are one with them and they are one with us.

Before we leave the place, they heartfully sang the song entitled Bilangguang Walang

Rehas. After which, we bid our farewells to them.

We did not experience major predicaments inside the venue. Our immersion was

successfully planned by the classs different committees and was well-coordinated.
