Write a persuasive essay on your side about death penalty
Applying the death penalty has been discussed for centuries, even in the ages before
Christ. Even though most of the countries in the world have nowadays abolished it, there
are still a few countries that support it actively. There are a lot of arguments in favor and
against this measure, especially when hineous crimes have been committed. For this
cases I am in favor of having the death penalty applied in Ecuador.
In first place executing the death penalty under certain circumstances could discourage
other criminals for committing the same felonies. Some people believe it would not
necessarily decrease other similar crimes but it is important to consider that in the case
of killers, pederasts and rapists it has been proven that when they are in jail for a few
time and then go out, they are likely to become repeat offenders. Even there have been
cases where they keep committing crimes from jail using their minions. Having the
capital punishment for these people could prevent others from acting the same and thus
it could save many more lives.
Second in the long term it will be cheaper to have these offenders killed than to have
them in prison with a life sentence. When a hineous crime has been committed and the
perpetrator gets a life sentence, the state and therefore the taxpayers will have to
provide for this person, probably in a maximum security jail. Besides the cost of food
and garment increases every day and we would be paying for it. Indisputably that could
be way more expensive than applying the death penalty.
In any case it is really difficult to decide if the death sentence should be considered when
deciding a punishment. Nonetheless considering that criminals could repeat their crimes
and it costs a lot to have them in prison for a lifetime I am in favor of the capital
punishment, because I think it is the only way to stop these people once and forever.
Naturally there are many factors that should be considered prior to this decision, but if
we do not take serious measures, criminality rates will never decrease. For all the
reasons cited above I defend having the death penalty in our countrys law.
