Cyclo (Vietnamese: Xch L) is a 1995 film by Vietnamese director Tran Anh

Hung (who had made The Scent of Green Papaya). It stars L Vn Lc, Tony Leung
Chiu Wai and Trn N Yn Kh.
The film was awarded the Golden Lion at the 52nd Venice International Film Festival.[1]

Plot

A young cyclo rickshaw driver (L Vn Lc) pedals his cyclo through the crowded road
of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in search for his next passenger. He inherited
the cyclo from his late father, who died in a road accident while a truck hit him when he
was driving the cyclo. His father did not want his son to take up his profession and
desired him to live a better life than a cyclo driver. The cyclo driver's grandfather repairs
tires despite his failing health, his younger sister shines shoes beside a restaurant along
with other poor children and his older sister (Trn N Yn Kh) delivers water to local
grocery stores.

Their poor but peaceful lives are jeopardized when the cyclo is stolen by a gang. The
cyclo driver is beaten when he frantically chases after them. He pays a visit to his
employer (Nguyn Nh Qunh), a middle-aged woman, who dotes her mentally
retarded adult son. Nowhere to go, he is forced to join the criminal dealing of her under
the supervision of a brooding gang leader (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), who is also a poet. In
his employers place the cyclo driver sees one of the men who stole his cyclo, but is
thwarted by one of the accomplices of the poet. The poet detains him in a small room
and he begins to get involved in organized crime starting small by destroying rice
shipments, burning down a rival gang's cyclo garage, and trafficking drugs.

Meanwhile, his older sister also comes under the influence of the poet and becomes a
prostitute. They develop feelings for each other. She visits his house where he is beaten
by his father, who is furious for the profession he has taken. The poet brings the cyclo
driver to Mr. Lullaby, who kills a victim by slitting his throat while singing a lullaby.

Ho Chi Minh City is hit by unrest as different gangs start fighting with each other. A
truck carrying a helicopter crashes on a busy city-street. The cyclo driver blinds one eye
of the man who stole his cyclo, but manages to remain unseen by anyone. He pays
another visit to his lady employer to pay a part of his debt, but she refuses and becomes
busy with her retarded son who has covered himself with yellow paint.

The poet assigns the cyclo driver the job of murdering a man. His two accomplices give
him a gun and teach him how to kill their intended target. They also hand him a bottle of
pills to reduce his anxiety, but warn him not to take too many. The poet and the cyclo
driver's sister visit his childhood place. He leaves her in a nightclub with a client and
she is abused by the man. Both the poet and the man realize their mistakes and the man
tries to compensate by bribing the poet with a hefty sum of dollar. But the poet kills the
man and then kills himself by setting fire to the room where he lives.

Meanwhile, the retarded son of the lady is killed when he is hit by a truck. The cyclo
driver gets drunk and takes two tablets of the drug he has received from the poet's
accomplices. He becomes hallucinatory in the flat where he has been forced to stay,
failing to carry out the job of killing the man. Instead, he covers himself with blue paint
and then due to the hallucinations he mistakenly shots himself twice. The next morning,
the members of the gang find him badly injured but still alive, and the lady spares his
life despite his failure because he reminds her of her deceased son. She releases him
from the gang. The movie ends with the scene of the cyclo driver, still contemplating
the memory of his father, driving his cyclo with his grandfather and his two sisters on it
through a crowded road of Ho Chi Minh City.

Soundtrack

The film soundtrack was written by Vietnamese composer Tn-Tht Tit, who also
collaborated with Trn Anh Hng on The Scent of Green Papaya. The score received a
"Best Music" award at the Festival International de Flandre in 1995. The soundtrack
also contains several well-known Vietnamese ca dao (folk songs) and other popular
songs:
Nng Chiu - Sung and played by handicapped street performers.
Ru Con (Lullaby) sung by Lullaby Man.
Thng Bm (Little Bm)- Sung by Sad Woman to Crazy Son. Transliteration
and translation.
Em i, H Ni ph - Sung by Thanh Lam (the lounge singer).
Creep by Radiohead - Playing in dance club.

The Vertical Ray of the Sun is the third feature film by Vietnamese-born French
director Trn Anh Hng. It was released in 2000 and is the final part of what many now
consider to be Tran's "Vietnam trilogy."

The film centres on three sisters who live in present-day Hanoi: Suong is the eldest, then
Khanh in the middle, and Lien is the youngest. The film takes place over the course of
one month, starting on the anniversary of their mother's death and ending on the
anniversary of their father's. Tran was inspired to make the film after visiting Hanoi
during a break in the filming of Cyclo during the Christmas holidays in 1994.

This drama was lensed in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, as well as in H Long Bay and the
village of Luoi Ngoc, Qung Ninh Province.
The film's original score is composed by Tn-Tht Tit. Additionally, three songs of the
noted Vietnamese songwriter Trnh Cng Sn are interspersed through the film, as are
songs by The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, Arab Strap, and The Married Monk.
The Vertical Ray of the Sun was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2000
Cannes Film Festival.[2]
Plot

On the anniversary of their mother's death, three sisters in contemporary Hanoi meet to
prepare a memorial banquet. After the banquet, the calm exteriors of the sisters' lives
begin to give way to more turbulent truths, which will affect their seemingly idyllic
relationships. The eldest sister has a small boy nicknamed Little Mouse, and botanical
photographer husband Quoc, who is prone to long absences from home. The middle
sister has recently discovered that she is pregnant to her husband Kien, who is a writer
suffering from writer's block. The flirtatious youngest sister constantly fantasises about
being pregnant, and lives with her brother Hai, for whom she has a deep affection. With
the brilliant Vietnamese summer as a setting Vertical Ray of the Sun is beautiful from
beginning to end, a charming, slow-paced, face value, family saga film.

I Come with the Rain is a 2009 neo-noir atmospheric thriller written and directed by
Vietnamese-born French director Tran Anh Hung, starring American actor Josh
Hartnett.
After making three movies about Vietnam, Tran Anh Hung intended to make
a baroque action film, a passionate thriller, both intense and poetic, haunted by three
characters from the mythology of film and the Western world: the serial killer,
the private investigator, and the Christ figure.

The action takes place in Los Angeles, Mindanao and Hong Kong and allows the
meeting of American and Asian actors.[2]

The film score is written by the Argentine Academy Award Winner Gustavo
Santaolalla and the English alternative rock band Radiohead. The filmmaker also makes
heavy use of post-rock music, including songs byExplosions in the Sky, Godspeed You!
Black Emperor, and A Silver Mt. Zion.
The film premiered in Tokyo at Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills on May 27, 2009.[3]

Synopsis

Two years after killing Hasford, a serial killer, in the line of duty, Kline now works as a
private detective, but he is still haunted by the ghosts of his past. A powerful
pharmaceutical conglomerate boss hires Kline to find his only son Shitao who has
mysteriously disappeared in the Philippines where he had been helping in an orphanage.
Kline follows the trail left by the ethereal Shitao to the jungles of Mindanao, and then to
the urban jungle of Hong Kong, where he enlists the help of Meng Zi, an old police
officer friend. The search leads Kline to cross paths with local organized crime
syndicate boss Su Dongpo, who is making trouble for the underworld, triggered by an
overriding passion for his drug-addicted girlfriend Lili.

Caught in the crossfire between the Hong Kong police and Su Dongpo's mafia drug ring
which is also hunting for Shitao, Kline finds himself alone, in this unknown city, when
Meng Zi is victim of an assassination attempt and is hospitalised.

Leaving behind his 5-star hotel for a shabby murder scene apartment in order to get
inside the mind of Shitao, Kline gradually loses himself in the terrifying memories of
Hasford, whose speciality was dissecting his victims' limbs while they were still alive,
then reassembling them into installation sculptures.

After a few weeks immersed in his haunted memories, torn between good and evil,
Kline is about to leave Hong Kong when he finds Shitao, who has become a mysterious
vagrant with healing powers.[4][5]

be devastated by the loss of Kizuki and spirals into a deep depression.[3]

Toru sleeps with Naoko on her 20th birthday. Shortly afterwards, Naoko withdraws
from the world and leaves for a sanitarium in a remote forest setting near Kyoto. Toru is
anguished by the situation, as he still has deep feelings for Naoko, but she is unable to
reciprocate. He also lives with the influence of death everywhere, while Naoko feels as
if some integral part of her has been permanently lost. He continues with his studies,
and during the spring semester meets an attractive girl and fellow student Midori, who
