Major Course Structure for


Information Management and Information System (2013)

Educational Objectives

IT

This major course develops students with a global vision, a solid foundation of theoretical
knowledge and an integrated approach to comprehensive application. It enables students
to understand the Chinese situation and the major field of this discipline, and to do
academic research or take practice positions in related fields. This major course
emphasizes on cultivating a good mathematics and physics thinking, and it provides
students with knowledge of economics and management theories, and IT knowledge and
ability. Graduated students are equipped with skills to develop, construct and carry out
information system designs as well as the ability to analyze and use informative resources.
And they are competent to work in organizations of governmental departments,
corporations and research organs, handling operations of information systems, IT
consultancy, operational flow designs and decision supports.

Students are required to have a high level of professional ethics, professional quality and
informative concepts. They should be able to use information technology to solve
management problems effectively. After graduation, they should be competent for
positions in government departments, enterprises, institutions, research institutions and
other organizations, engaging in information management and information systems
analysis, design, management and evaluation.
Students should develop the following knowledge and ability:
1. Master management science systematically, study fundamental theory, policy,
knowledge and skills of information technology and information management;
Understand the development trends and prospects of the new generation of IT;
2. Apply methods and tools of management science, information technology, systems
engineering and information processing skills to handle information systems analysis
and design;
3. New generation skills of IT engaging in systems development, information
management implementation, consulting and supervision in enterprises and
government agencies;
4. Skilled with methods and tools in statistics, operations, databases, data mining for
planning and analysis of information resources, to help governments and enterprises
to make decisions;
5. Being able to take advantage of a new generation of information technology to carry
out business management and business model innovation and practical ability.

For year 1 and 2, Physical Education I, II, III, IV are compulsory, each course
worth 1 credit; for year 3 and 4 PE is optional. In junior years, in principle, PE test
is conducted in during the course without extra record of the result; in senior
years, there is an independent physical condition test, for those who meet the
required standard will get 0.5 credits. Year 3 and 4 add up to 1 credit.
