Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own
paragraph)
A. Ayanna Chisholm, a 26 year old college student who works for Port Authority of
New York and New Jersey speaks out about the trouble she has at her work.
She works in a tollbooth where you encounters hundreds of people a day. Her
job has taught her not to wear too much makeup, not to wear showy clothing, to
put change in the plastic tray to not have her hands caressed by strangers.
B. Harassment is something very real of very common when working in a tolbooth
It's something you become numb too said Wayne Joseph, president of the
Bridge and Tunnel offices. Not everyone files complaints for harassment because
workers believe that it happens so much it's too chaotic to be filing a report every
time someone said something they didn't like.
C. Cindy Olsen a former worker said she would overhear truck drivers talking over
the radio, passing over tips on who was working what tolbooth. She would have
to put up with comments about her lips, breasts, and eyes. She would also wear
loose fitting clothes and does not smile or look directly at male drivers.
Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).
I believe this is something very important because no male or woman wants to be
targeted or harassed. Tolbooth workers should feel safe going to work, not have to
become to the nasty comments. I've never heard anybody touch up on this subject
which is what saddens me.
Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).
Tollbooths first were built back in 1790s. The first major toll road was in the United
States starting from Philadelphia and ended in Lancaster. At the beginning things were
very different, people weren't as sexually harassed as now because back then it was a
completely different world.
Relate your Event to the a Theme (at least 3 sentences). SEE BACK FOR
THEMES
I think my event goes with Social Structures in the Gender Roles and Relations
category because it focuses on gender and how they are targeted. Both men and
women are verbally harassed.
Questions You Have About the Event (4).
Why hasn't anyone taking action?

Why are people so sick in the head?
Has the companies made up a plan to better secure their workers safety?
