I admired his sharp intellect, his perseverance when working in his basement lab and analyzing insulin, his modesty and, of course, his achievement of receiving two Nobel Prizes.
As soon as this book was published, I sent him a copy
by courier on the off chance he would read it, not really expecting a reply.
Four months later, a hand-written letter by the then
87-year-old arrived.
