D metso” Torque-Master™ Holdbacks ‘STEPHENS-ADAMSON The Torque-Master™ holdback The Torque-Master™ holdback is an improved version of a time tested reliable design successfully used on hundreds of applications. Available in torque ratings from 40,000 to 5,000,000 LBS.-IN., the Torque-Master™ holdback meets safe load ratings for most inclined belt conveyors, —_ bucket elevators, and similar equipment applications. Its dependable _roller- wedge operation eliminates reverse runaways with loaded conveyors effectively protecting against personal injury, flooded feed points, and damaged equipment. The Torque-Master™ holdback’s simple enclosed design is less sensitive to contamination and wear. It can be used in all kinds of conveyor environments, requiring only minimum maintenance. And it can be rebuilt in the field, if necessary, with readily available stock parts, Stephens-Adamson has improved the Torque-Master™ holdback over earlier models. Design improvements include the use of a better grade steel in the housings of larger models; overall tolerances; surface finishes on hubs, bushings and seals; detachable torque arm and dual seal arrangement. By using fabricated forgings, instead of castings, deliveries are quicker. Within the lubrication system, Stephens-Adamson has added an oil level sight gauge and an air breather element for equalized pressure. Oil drainage can be accomplished from any mounting position. In most cases, they can replace other holdback types without modification to the user's structure. LUBRICATION SYSTEM EXTENDS BEARING LIFE, CUTS MAINTENANCE The Torque-Master™ — holdback line features an oil bath lubrication system that reduces wear on contact surfaces of internal components. Dual grease seals prevent oil leakage and contaminants from penetrating to contact surfaces. DETACHABLE TORQUE ARM The torque arm can be readily detached from the holdback housing to simplify installation on existing conveyors and provide for more flexibility in mounting STANDARD ROLLER TYPE HOLDBACK ‘Simple open design Low-cost dependable protection Engages instantly without shock Bore sizes from 1-15/16" to 4-15/16" Proven roller-wedge operation The Stephens-Adamson Standard Roller Holdback is a simple, but effective holdback capable of years of dependable protection from loaded conveyors running back after power loss. The Standard Holdback operates ‘on a similar roller-wedge principle as the Torque-Master™ holdback. Five hardened steel rollers wedge between the wide-faced drum and a stationary wedge plate mounted at an angle to the roller, and effectively prevent any backward rotation of the head shaft. When normal forward rotation resumes, the holdback releases its grip immediately, permitting free, smooth forward rotation. The holdback mounting bracket must be attached to a support that is strong enough to hold the reversing torque load STANDARD HOLDBACK SPECIFICATIONS AND DIMENSIONS TOP VEW SIDE VIEW we | sore Te Te fe] > lelel a | wn |v | ‘ncrwar | Tomer | "at | oy ens [ose a] ef « [re fzaefe [a [soe | orm fare] crx mm] co | aw | azo wear | amie) x ai tsex 9 | oo |: wae [AT |aoae| + [re faae[ | + [vse | or fare] {Sx 5] ano | ae | sso so-sor | S78) "6 | 3 4 7 (78 x 76 amt] te | sare | ou [sau] sa | 6 rane |e [Ex 78 | soom | 26 | us wear [418 1 one | core | an fem 5 (ane weer [4S YY rene [sare | ox [eae] se | 6 | ase] one ] « [U1 22 | soon ‘0 HOW TO FIGURE THE OPTIMUM TORQUE-VALUE FOR YOUR APPLICATION (Sas 1600 TPH, 600 FPM, Motor stall torque or Motor Potash Ore breakdown torque= 200% Wrap Angle = 180° rating Head-Shaft Dia. = 4.15/16" Running HP = 120 Head Puey Da. = 31" Direct Drive - No "Soft Sta” (30° plus 12" H.B. lagging) Be Width = 48" Pulley RPM = 78 Motor HP = 150 It is important that you select a holdback with a high enough torque-rating for adequate run-back protection for your application.
