Avoid High-Pressure Fluids

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin

causing serious injury.

Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before

disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all

UN08DEC08
connections before applying pressure.

Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands

and body from high pressure fluids.

X9811
If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid
injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a
few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with
this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable
medical source. Such information is available from Deere
& Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

Park Machine Safely

Before working on the machine:

Lower all equipment to the ground.

Stop the engine and remove the key.
Disconnect the battery ground strap.

Boom, Arm, and Bucket Slow Return Valve

Adjustment

1. Heat hydraulic oil to the specified temperature.

Specification

UN28OCT04
OilTemperature ......................................................................... 50 5C
120 10F

NOTE: Number of rotations given here is a guideline for

T204452
this adjustment. Additional fine adjustment will be
required to obtain boom lowering speed.
Boom Slow Return Valve
2. Rotate boom slow return valve from fully open position,
in the throttle direction, by 3 1/2 turns.

NOTE: Boom slow return valve is located on the boom

cylinder bottom pipe at right side of the swing
motor.

IMPORTANT: When measuring boom down speed, do

not allow bucket to contact the ground
at full boom speed. Boom or arm may
be damaged.

IMPORTANT: To prevent the front-end from operating

too quickly, warm up the hydraulic oil
and set engine to run at full speed, then
make the following measurements.

3. Fully extend boom cylinder, fully retract arm cylinder

and fully extend bucket cylinder.

4. Raise and lower boom while measuring length of time

UN27APR93
to complete stroke.

Specification
Boom Rising SpeedTime ................................................. 3.6 +/- 0.3 sec

T7802AD
Specification
Boom Lowering SpeedTime ............................................ 4.2 +/- 0.4 sec

5. If boom lowering speed is not within the above range,

adjust boom slow return valve.

Installation Instructions

NOTE: Number of rotations given here is a guideline for

this adjustment. Additional fine adjustment will be
required to obtain arm lowering speed.

6. Rotate arm slow return valve from fully open position in

throttle direction by 1and 5/6 turns.

UN28OCT04
NOTE: Run engine at full speed while performing tests.

7. Fully extend boom cylinder, fully retract arm cylinder

T204451
and fully extend bucket cylinder.

8. Roll arm in and arm out while measuring time to Arm Slow Return Valve
complete stroke.

Specification
Arm In SpeedTime ........................................................... 6.0 +/- 0.4 sec

Specification
Arm Out SpeedTime ........................................................ 3.7 +/- 0.3 sec

9. If arm in speed is not within the time specification,

adjust arm slow return valve.

NOTE: Arm out speed is not required to be adjusted, but

should be checked to specification.

10. Roll bucket in and bucket out while measuring time to

complete stroke.

Specification
Bucket Crowd SpeedTime ............................................... 2.0 +/- 0.3 sec

Specification
Bucket Dump SpeedTime ................................................. 1.3+/- 0.3 sec

UN27APR93
NOTE: Confirmation of bucket speed is used as a
reference only. Machine is not equipped with a
bucket slow return valve, adjustments are not

T7802AF
required.
