Introduction
The University of North Texas has a great residence life prepared for the
student body when choosing where to live during the school year. However,
some of the dorms available to students restrict lower classmen to live in them.
The newer halls available for the upper classmen have both conveniences and
inconveniences for the students. Our feasibility report highlights several points
that an upperclassman looks for when trying to choose a dorm to live in. The
study considers the following newer halls that are open for upperclassmen and
have semi-private dorms.
Legends Hall
Mozart Square
Santa Fe Square
We also conducted a survey on the students that lived there in the spring
semester of 2011. Our criteria is based the noise level, staff friendliness,
cleanliness, and maintenance response to issues in the dorm.
Methods 3
Method of Evaluation
Our team collected factual data from the internet, and also administered a
survey to dorm residents. We used this information to determine the best semi-
private dorm for upperclassmen at UNT.
Internet Data
Size of room
Price per square foot
Distance from the nearest cafeteria
Distance to the nearest Mean Green bus stop
Distance to the nearest resident parking lot
Size of Room
Our team used the website housing.unt.edu to find the size for each of the
three dorm rooms. From there we ranked each room one, two, or three with one
being the largest, and three being the smallest.
According to housing.unt.edu, all three dorms have the same cost per semester
but have different square footage. By using the information provided at
housing.unt.edu our team was able to calculate the actual cost per square foot
for each of the three dorms. Our team ranked each room one, two, or three
with one being the lowest cost per square foot, and three being the highest cost
per square foot.
Our team used Google Maps to calculate the number of feet between each dorm
and the nearest cafeteria. We ranked each dorm one, two, or three with one
being the closest distance and three being the farthest distance.
4 Feasibility Study
Our team used Google Maps to calculate the number of feet between each dorm
and the nearest Mean Green bus stop. We ranked each of the dorms one, two,
or three with one being the closest distance and three being the farthest
distance.
Our team used Google Maps to calculate the number of feet between each dorm
and the nearest resident parking lot. We ranked each of the dorms one, two, or
three with one being the closest distance and three being the farthest distance.
Survey Data
To evaluate the overall satisfaction of the dorm tenants, our team gave a survey
to residents. The survey covered the following criteria (refer to the Appendix):
Level of noise
Staff friendliness
Cleanliness
Speed of maintenance repairs
Level of Noise
The survey our team conducted asked residents to rate the noise level of their
dorm on a scale of one to four, with one being quiet and five being loud. Our
team used the mode of the responses to compare the three dorms.
The survey our team conducted asked residents to rate the friendliness of the
dorm staff on a scale of one to four, with one being rude and five being friendly.
Our team used the mode of the responses to compare the three dorms.
Level of Cleanliness
The survey our team conducted asked residents to rate the cleanliness of their
dorm on a scale of one to four, with one being dirty and five being clean. Our
team used the mode of the responses to compare the three dorms.
Methods 5
The survey our team conducted asked residents to rate the speed of
maintenance repairs of their dorm on a scale of one to four, with one being
slow and five being fast. Our team used the mode of the responses to compare
the three dorms.

Test Results
After our team researched the factual criteria and populated the results of the
survey to dorm residents, we compiled the following results.
Internet Data
Our team used the internet sites housing.unt.edu and maps.google.com
(Google Maps) to acquire the factual data represented in this section.

Survey Data
To evaluate the overall satisfaction of the dorm tenants, our team gave a survey
to the residents of each dorm.
Level of Noise
The survey our team conducted asked residents to rate the noise level of their
dorm on a scale of one to five, with one being quiet and five being loud. Based
on the mode response received, we ranked each dorm as follows:
1. Legends & Santa Fe Square tied for first with a mode response of 4
2. Mozart Square with a mode response of 2

Conclusion 15
Conclusion
Based on our data, we can conclude that Mozart Square is the most convenient
semi-private dorm for upper classmen to live in. Figure 12 shows our compiled
data of both the internet data and the survey data. The bottom four results
(internet data) are based on ranking and the top four results (survey data) are
based on mode. The graph is the overall illustration of our study. Figure 12

Recommendation 17
Recommendation
Based on our results, we have concluded that Mozart Square is the best dorm
for upperclassmen to live in during the school year. Mozart Square proves that
it is the most convenient for an average student not based on just factual data
but also on the opinion of the students that lived there in the spring of 2011.
The results that set this dorm apart from the others were the staff friendliness
and the maintenance response
