Subject: Project Three reflective memo

Within this memo, I have enclosed a reflection of project three, the video and set of instructions.

Before starting this project, I believed that it would be very easy to create a video along with a
set of instructions because it seemed like people did it all the time with little effort. To my
surprise, it took a lot of time and effort to create a good video that I thought was suitable for an
audience because of all of the editing that came into play. I underestimated the amount of work
that goes into something of this type of media. I think that this project helps in looking at the real
world because we might be able to transfer the work in editing and putting together a piece of
media to a real workplace in which we need to put together a video or instructions for a topic. I
think that there werent as many useful tools for this project and it was harder to figure out the
editing aspect when I was trying to put the video together so that it looked good and professional.

I wanted to have a fun video that was laid back so I added in a pancake song to make it sound a
lot more like a how-to video that I would actually watch in my free time. I also wanted it to look
professional so I filmed in an angle that I saw on another video where it was just my hands
working. I also added in a voice over so that I could freely do the video without having to take
too many takes to get it right. To make the video seem fluid I put in still slides between the big
steps. I think that the discussions on the good videos and not so good videos were really helpful
to me in seeing how I wanted to make my own video and what I wanted to do to make it a
helpful step by step production. I also think that the quiz on the project three was helpful in
learning what the project entailed and what I needed to do to get a good grade. For my set of
instructions, I wanted to go for simplicity and creativity so I used a lot of pictures that would be
helpful.

The student learning objectives featured things that applied to the media and to editing. The
student learning outcome seven had the student develop skills in reviewing and editing media as
well as making informed stylistic choices to avoid any mechanical errors. I have used this in
many aspects over the course of projects that we have turned in. In every project, there has been
aspects in which media had played a large role but this last project was the largest because we
had to have an edited video to go along with the instructions. The audience for this assignment
was broad but I wanted it to be a little more laid back and fun than the other projects which were
more serious. A lot more editing went into this project than the others because the video needed
much more attention. The student learning outcome nine had the student develop confidence in
presenting information using a variety of modes and including more than one type of media to
present the information. It also had the student be cognizant of the principles for delivery in the
emerging technologies. This student learning outcome was also used in past projects like the
social justice campaign where we used different modes to show audiences what was happening
but it played a very large role in project three.
