Malnutrition

In Our Society Today

Lindsay Skalkos -

Introduction

MALNUTRITION- LINDSAY SKALKOS 1

The issue of malnutrition is not only in other Countries, it is also all
o the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition is the gravest single threat to global

around America. For many individuals malnutrition mainly means being

very underweight but it is very common to be over weight. A person is
considered malnourished when the required calories are not met within
their diet, or when a person consumes too many calories. Imbalance and
energy efficiency can occur which then leads to severe damage on body
tissue and body apperance. Knowing that most of our society is surrounded
by fast food and people who can barley afford a meal, dont you think
something should be done about this? This issue is not stressed enough.
The most effected groups are Women and Children. In children malnutrition
develops into poor growth deficiency

Causes/Effects
Breathing Difficulties Skin Changes
Depression Oral Changes

"Worldwide, malnutrition accounts for 11% of all diseases and causes
long-term
poor health and disability," says Dr Francesco Branca. Recently he also
threatened
that poor nutrition effects the development of a child's education.
- How is this going to end?
In 2010 the Worlds Health Assembly make their voice heard and
brainstormed ways
to help countries that are struggling by providing nutritional support. More
importantly to young children and Women. If organizations continue to take
a step in
the right direction then sooner this world issue will come to an end.

Methods
For me to get more information about our society today and what people
really
think about their own health. I designed a survey that I send out via
Facebook. My
survey contained 10 questions, the last question an open ended question.
( See
Appendix A for list survey questions).

My survey responses included people of all ages and body types. My

purpose for
this survey was to collect information and gain knowledge from every day
american
people. My survey was available for five days, and I collected 36 responses.
26
(72.2%) were female. 9 (25%) of partcipents were male and one considered
themselves as other. Futhermore, 26 people were between the ages 18 and
20. While
four were 35 or older.

Results
I choose this question to ask my
respondents because breakfast is
the
most important meal of the day.
Without
breakfast you will become weak,
tired,
etc. Seeing the percentage of people
who eat breakfast in the morning
shows
how important their health is to
them.
These results are shocking, over 40% of
respondents eat breakfast 3-4 times a
week or less and that is very unhealthy.
39% of my respondents eat breakfast
every day which is less than half. I choose
this type of graph because I think that is
shows difference in persentages. My
point for some of the questions in my
survey was to see how poor the american diet really is. My one open ended
question
was What do you think healthy eating is? This question really took out to
me
because every one had
different inputs on what
healthy eating is. I hope that
after they took my survey they
thought about their answers
and realize that some of their
answers should be different.
My mail goal is to make a
difference in the world and
help individuals change their
lifestyle.

that most americans

have no idea how to eat a
healthy diet. The fact that
more than half of my survey
respondents drink alcohol
more than 3 times a week is
very poor. Also some people
dont know why they are so overweight when it is known that without a
proper
nutritional diet you wont loose weight you will just gain it.

Conclusion
In conclusion, because of Malnutrition the death rate in the past 5 years
are
extrodanarly high.
