what you (K)now and what you (W)ant to know sections
about ISIS and the candidates positions.

Procedures (PowerPoint and worksheet 15 minutes and Online

Activity 15 minutes) :
- Before everything, the students will be asked to log into the
computers for later in the day. This will save time during the lesson.
- The teacher will ready the PowerPoint and video for the lesson while
the students are completing their anticipatory set. Once they are
finished the students will be asked to take notes based on the
PowerPoint on the presidential candidates thoughts on ISIS. (See
attached PowerPoint slides and lecture notes)
- Once the lecture portion of the lesson is completed, the teacher will
hand out the corresponding worksheet. (See attached) Students are to
complete this worksheet silently, on their own, and hand in to the
teacher when done. This should take them roughly five minutes.
- Once all students have turned in their worksheet, the teacher will
introduce the online activity/Scavenger hunt and begin the video about
ISIS from BBC.com. Students are not required to take notes, however
they must be told to pay attention because they have to address this
information in their homework.

For the scavenger hunt/ online activity:

- when the worksheet about the candidates is completed and everyone
has handed it in, the teacher will pass out the scavenger hunt. The
students will have access to the PowerPoint, and all the resources
within it, to complete the questions. While the students are working on
the scavenger hunt the teacher should be walking around the
classroom to ensure that all the students are on task. When the
students are finished with the scavenger hunt, they should turn it in to
the teacher and begin the closing activity and then homework.

Alternative/ Emergency Activities:

- Once the PowerPoint is finished the students will be on their own
for the online activity and homework assignment. If the students
finish the online activity early, they can get a head start on their
homework assignment.

Concluding Activity/ Closure (Remainder of class):

- Students will fill out the what you (L)earned section on their KWL
charts. Students should have both information from the PowerPoint and
the online activity in there.
- Once the students are finished with the KWL chart, they can move on
to the plan for ISIS homework.

Evaluation/ Assessment:
- Students are required to hand in the worksheet about the
presidential candidates as well as their plan for dealing with ISIS
(as homework). Both will be counted as a grade.
- For a formative assessment the students will be asked to
complete a 10 question Kahoot (See Link) at the end of class
about the views of the presidential candidates. This should be
done after the handouts are already turned in.

Homework Assignment:
