minutes to do any physical activity as easy as brisk walking, you can extend your life
span an extra 3.4 years. Think about all the different possibilities and opportunities
you can experience with those extra 3.4 years.

mentally and physically as well as for now and in the future and who doesnt want
to life a happy, long-filled life?

longerhealthier life.
D. Credibility Statement:

I have played many sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball, cross
country, and track.
2. Apart from regularly exercising, I also have medical conditions that affect
my stomach and esophagus where I am encouraged to be physically active
in order to maintain my health.

E. Preview of main points:

1. First, I will explain how being physically active helps your physical body
short-term.
2. Second, I will discuss how being physically active helps your physical body
long-term.
3. Finally, I will describe how being physically active helps your mental state.
II. Regularly exercising and doing physical activity has many benefits for both your mental and
physical state which can lead you to a longer-healthier life.
A. Being physically active for about 30 minutes a day has many benefits for your physical
body right now.
1. One of the benefits exercise can do on your physical body is prevent you from
getting sick.
a. According to the article called The Benefits of Exercise (2008), written
by Deborah Mullen, Exercisers feel sick almost 30% less often than
non-exercisers.
i. This can be good for your boss at work as you may call in sick a
less frequently.
b. Exercising causes you to get sick less as physical activity helps get rid of
bacteria that could be trapped in your lungs or airway as well as help
white blood cells detect bacteria sooner.
2. Another benefit exercising can do to your physical body is help maintain or lose
body weight.
a. If you want to lose weight, one of the key components apart from your
nutrition and what you eat is exercise.
b. If you want to lose weight, exercising helps you burn calories and body
fat.
i. Does Exercise Help You Lose Weight? The Surprising Truth (2016),
an article posted by Helen West states, One of the most popular
types of exercise for weight loss is aerobic exercise, also known
as cardio. Examples include walking, running, cycling and
swimming.

Transition: Now that I talked about the short-term benefits for your physical body by exercising, I will
know discuss the long-term benefits exercising has on your physical body.
B. There are many benefits physical activity and exercising have on your physical body
that are long term.
1. One of the biggest affects physical activity has on your body is with your heart.
a. Exercising for about 30 minutes a day decreases the chance of getting
heart disease or problems.
i. Again, in an article called The Benefits of Exercise (2008)
written by Deborah Mullen, Inactive people are 2x more likely
to develop coronary heart disease than active people.
b. Not only does exercising prevent heart disease but heart failure as well.
i. While doing physical activity such as running, your heart learns
to pump out more blood each beat which allows your heart to be
able to pump blood better to different parts of your body. ii.
Physically activity also helps your heart allow blood to flow
through different blood vessels as well as making different branch
connections to vessels.
2. Aside from helping your heart long term, exercising can also affect your blood
pressure and cholesterol.
a. Compared to people who are physically active to those who are not,
people who are physically active typically have lower blood pressure
and cholesterol.
i. High blood pressure and cholesterol can cause heart problems,
kidney disease, and strokes.
3. Another long-term affect exercising has on your body has to do with your
bones.
a. According to the Better Life Channel (2012), exercising for about 30
minutes a day will lead to stronger bones, muscles, and joints which can
decrease the risk of developing osteoporosis.
b. This is true as the more one exercises, bone formation continues to
grow instead of creating bone loss.

Transition: Now that I discussed some of the long-term benefits exercising has on your physical body, I
will know explain how exercising can help and improve your mental state.

C. Apart from physical activity and exercising help your body physically, it also has many
benefits for your mental state.
1. Exercising on a regular basis can help improve your mood and give you more
energy.
a. As claimed by Jennifer Warner in her article, Exercise Fights Fatigue,
Boosts Energy, (11/3/2006), studies have shown that sedentary people
who complete a regular exercise program reported improved fatigue.
i. Along with improved fatigue, this also means increased energy.
b. If you ever feel tired or fatigued, doing physical activity such as going for
a walk is a much healthier alternative to increase energy levels than
energy drinks, sports drinks, and coffee as it does not contain calories.
i. Exercising is also an easy way to distract yourself from being
emotional hurt such as being angry or sad.
2. Apart from increasing energy levels and being less fatigued, physical activity
also allows you to sleep better.
a. According to the Nation Sleep Foundation, Exercise triggers an increase
in body temperature, and the post-exercise drop in temperature may
promote falling asleep (2017).
i. Exercising can especially help people who are insomniac return
to normal sleeping patterns.
III. Conclusion
A. Review of main points:
1. Today I first talked about the different health benefits exercising has on your
short-term health.
2. Second, I discussed some of the many benefits exercising has on your long-term
health.
3. Finally, I explained how exercising improves your mental state.
B. Restate thesis: Regularly exercising and doing physical activity has many benefits for
both your mental and physical state which can lead you to a longer-healthier life.
C. Closure: As you can see, being physically active has many benefits for both your body
and your mind. If exercising and doing physical activity can do all that and more, who
wouldnt want to take 30 minutes out of their day to participate in physical activity?
