After decades of worsening global air quality
and public health, government officials are
starting to take notice to this serious problem.
Countries around the world have begun
passing laws and regulations to lessen our
ecological footprint on mother Earth as well
as improve the health of the public.
A new directive has been introduced
in Sweden that is yielding fantastic
results for the youth of Stock- holm.
Recently the Swedish government
has passed a law heavily restricting
the emissions aloud in the exhaust of
cars in the city in an at- tempt to
combat the rapidly increasing
asthma rates in children. These
restrictions impacts
experts found was impressive. After
looking at asthma attack rates and
other related respiratory illnesses as
well as traffic congestion levels in
the city in just the first year since the
law was implemented, congestion
has dropped by nearly ten percent,
asthma attack rates decreased by
more than 50 per- cent, and overall
asthma rates in kids younger then
6 declined to the surprise of law
makers and researchers. This taw
that was introduced would be
equivalent to about a two dollar
and sixty cents tax, and as it has
shown that small price yielded
great profits. Many politicians and
policy makers are now taking this
into consideration, sparking
debates whether global air quality
should be reevaluated and reformed
in order to preserve a future for the
children these laws where aimed to
help.
 Rhetorical Rational
This projects close relation to project
two presented a good opportunity to
expand my argument to a new audience
through other sources and platforms.
Since my project two argument was
focused of the difference in respiratory
health in the civilian population in
countries with restrictions in place
opposed to those who do not value their
air quality as highly, I decided on three
methods that could help expand my
argument to audiences that may not have
come in contact with my research paper.
For my genre one I choose to create a
newspaper as seen above. I choose to
create this because it will be easily seen
by a great population, in addition the
topic is a current issue that is present in
the news often and is normally present in
most newspapers. In my second genre, I
choose to create a Facebook page to
expand my argument because Facebook
is an extremely long lasting and easily
platform to spread the page quickly. This
Facebook page would include facts and
current world news about laws and
restrictions that are being passed. It will
also include links to certain
organizations and charities that people
can donate too and volunteer for to make
a difference for this cause. The Facebook
page is targeted at a younger audience
that uses social media on a regular basis
and will share and spread this page to
further parts of Facebook so it can be
viewed by as many people as possible.
For my genre three I decided the best
idea was to create a podcast about the
effects of air pollution on communities
and environments around the globe. I
felt this will be lasting because it can be
updated and continued for an extended
time and followed by a set audience that
take interest in this topic. In addition a
podcast discuses and defines a topic very
well so the argument and a lot of
information about the argument can be
provided in a relatively short podcast.
