BELIEF 1

I believe that all students are capable, imaginative and hardworking learners who
demonstrate initiative and participation in individual and collaborative learning. I have
become a teacher in order to guide these individuals to grow and develop in all aspects
of their learning. Teaching is about recognising each child as an individual and taking
their interests into account, to help drive the learning process (APST 1). Therefore, I will
ensure students have access to a supportive and positive, rich learning environment to
guide their learning and knowledge. For participation and engagement in activities,
students need to have an established positive environment via reinforcement and praise
given to them (APST 4).
In my classroom I want the students to know I am approachable and will provide
guidance, support and encouragement within lessons. There will be opportunities which
allow for the students to demonstrate independence, develop social skills and learn how
to work collaboratively through exploration, hypothesising, questioning and practice. It is
also vital there is focus on the Australian Professional Teaching Standards within lessons
and implementation of the quality teaching framework for the students to achieve
beyond the required outcomes seen in the NSW Syllabus.

BELIEF 2

I believe all students are entitled to the same learning and opportunities. Essentially, my
teaching strategies will keep developing in order to meet the needs of mixed abilities and
characters, maximising interactive and engaging lessons for all of the students through
effective teaching and learning sequences (APST 3). It is important to get to know my
students, their backgrounds and ensure they all feel accepted within the classroom.
Knowing each student will allow access to the students capabilities, how they learn and
their knowledge in order for me to successfully teach content (APST 2). In my classroom
you will see focus of differentiation by implementing resources that are suitable and
important to each individuals skill level, which have the intention to bring out the best
capabilities suited to each student in my classroom. This can be evident for example, via
strategies that enhance diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic
backgrounds (APST 1). It is also vital to have respect and build collaborative
relationships with families and recognise values of cultural traditions (APST 2).

BELIEF 3

Teachers need to always strive further and have goals in order to implement the
curriculum efficiently and effectively to challenge students (APST 2). Challenges for
students need to be set through learning goals to aim for higher achievements for those
with varying abilities (APST 3). There is also need for continually ensuring and
remembering to cater for diversity and all needs. Therefore, I know all students are
capable learners and I intend to implement content across the curriculum to be a slightly
higher level to challenge students.
I will embrace the diversity within my classroom and implement various strategies to
cater for their needs in order to achieve the same outcome as other students. I will focus
on implementing materials, resources and approaches used to suit all the needs in the
classroom and setting goals for them through success criteria to strive further for
achievement. I will always provide positive feedback on their learning, praising and
providing positive support where needed (APST 5). As well as report on their
achievement to keep accurate records of students achieving.
BELIEF 4

I believe students need the implementation of ICT within their learning to enhance and
further their capabilities (APST 2). Technology captures students interests in wanting to
learn and engaging through the content that is being taught. It also allows for skills to
develop and accessibility to information that a teacher may not provide insight to as
clear. I will focus on using ICT safety and responsibly into my classroom activities and
lessons to engage and enhance the content that is being implemented in the classroom
to effectively reflect the curriculum. Technology is a positive approach for managing
challenging behaviour (APST 4). Challenging behaviour should be handled in a positive
approach for the students to strive to achieve finishing their work within their
capabilities, to then be rewarded. ICT can be used as an incentive in some classrooms
for the students to positively respond to the teacher.

BELIEF 5

Reflection is an integral part of growth for the development as a teacher. It is vital to

reflect on areas of improvement, re use strategies or materials in order to enrich the
students learning. It is important to learn through various strategies, philosophies,
parents, the community, other staff members and my students (APST 6). Maintaining an
ability to reflect and strive to develop as a teacher in all aspects, will allow for
achievement within all areas for becoming a teacher. In my teaching practices you will
see connections being established with the students, with their parents, the community
and other staff members to consistently improve practice and achieve successfully as a
teacher. I will consistently engage professionally with meeting ethics and responsibilities,
as well as broaden my knowledge and practice through professional teaching networks
(APST 7).
