ІСУС ХРИСТОС
СВІТЛО СВІТУ
При народженні Ісуса Христа на небі з’явилась
ясна зоря, звіщаючи людям, що несотворене небесне світло
зійшло на землю. Наша Церква співає тропар: ,,Різдво
твоє, Христе Боже наш, засяяло світові світлом
розуміння. У ньому ті, що зорям служили, від зорі
навчилися поклонятись тобі, сонцю правди”. Коли ж
Христос, несотворене світло, вмирав на хресті, символічна
темрява вкрила землю на знак, що невдячні і злобні люди
засудили на смерть Несотворене Сонце - Світло. У празник
Богоявлення ми співаємо кондак: ,,З’явився ти сьогодні
вселенній і світло твоє, Господи, опромінило нас. Пізнавши
тебе, співаємо: ти прийшов і появився - світло
недоступне”. В нашому богослужінні (на першому Часі)
наша Церква проказує молитву: ,,Христе, світло істинне,
що просвічуєш і освячуєш кожну людину, яка приходить на
світ”.
Ісус Христос є правдивим нашим світлом. Він
просвічує душі, наші уми і ціле наше життя. Перед
приходом на землю Сина Божого люди перебували в
темряві, люди не знали мети свого життя, не знали
правдивого Бога. Поганські народи віддавали жертву честь
бездушним ідолам, різним божкам з каміння або дерева,
поклонялися звірятам, як наприклад, гадюкам і волам.
Деякі погани приносили божкам у жертву невинних дітей і
за таке жорстоке вбивство немовлят сподівалися
благословення від бездушного ідола.
Ми щасливі, що належимо до Христа, до Його
Церкви. Дякуймо Богові за неоціненний дар святої віри!
Дякуймо Христові, що Він просвітив нас світлом своєї
небесної правди! Нас стосуються слова Христові: ,,Щасливі
очі, що бачать, що ви бачите. Кажу бо вам, що багато
пророків і царів хотіли бачити, що ви бачите, і не бачили, і
чути, що ви чуєте, і не чули” (Лк. 10,24). Під час
Божественної Літургії, після Святого Причастя, ми
проказуємо радісні слова: ,,Ми бачили світло істинне, ми
прийняли Духа Небесного, ми знайшли віру істинну,
нероздільній Трійці поклоняємося, вона бо спасла нас”. Які
радісні слова u1061 Христа-Спасителя: ,,Я світло, на світ
прийшов, щоб кожен, хто в Мене вірує, не перебував у
темряві” (Ів. 12,46). Амінь.

JESUS CHRIST
LIGHT OF THE WORLD
At the birth of Jesus Christ, a bright star appeared in
the heavens, telling all the people that a heavenly light had
descended on earth. In one of our Church tropars we sing:
“Your birth, our Lord Christ, shone with the light of wisdom on
the world. In it those, who read the stars, learned from the star
to bow down to you, the sun of truth.” When Christ, the
Begotten Light, dies on the cross, a symbolic darkness falls
over the land as a sign that ungrateful and evil people had
sentenced the Begotten Sun - the Light - to death. On the Feast
of Theophany, we sing this kondak: “You have appeared today
and your light, O Lord, illuminates us. Recognizing you, we
sing: You came and appeared - unapproachable light.” In our
services (in the first Hour), our Church prays: “Christ, true
light, which illuminates and sanctifies each person, who comes
into this world.”
Jesus Christ is our true light. He illuminates our soul,
our mind and our whole life. Before the coming of the Son of
God to earth, people existed in darkness, not knowing the true
goal of their life, not knowing the true God. Pagan nations
glorified soulless idols, various gods made of stone or wood.
They worshipped animals, like the snake and the ox. Some
pagans brought their innocent babies as sacrifices to their gods
and, through this cruel murder of innocent babies, expected to
receive blessings from their soulless idol.
We are fortunate that we belong to Christ, to His Church.
We thank God for this priceless gift of holy faith! We thank
Christ that He illuminated us with the light of His heavenly
truth! These words of Christ are relevant to us: “I tell you,
many prophets and kings wished to see what you see but did not
see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it” (Lk.
10,24). During the Divine Liturgy, after Holy Communion, we
speak these happy words: “We saw your true light, we accepted
your Heavenly Spirit, we have found true faith, we bow down to
the Holy Trinity, for it has saved us.” What happy words of
Christ the Savior: “I have come to the world as its light, to keep
anyone who believes in Me from remaining in the dark” (Jn.
12,46). Amen.

зволив був, увійшовши до дому митаря Захея,
стати спасінням йому і всьому домові його. То ж
Сам і нині збережи, від усякого зла та здоровими
тих що тут проживають (по іменно). І котрі через
нас, недостойних, заносять Тобі молитви й
благання. Поблагослови їх і дім цей, і бережи їх
життя завжди спокійним, і постійно подавай їм
всяке добро своїм Благословенням. Бо Ти
благословляєш і освячуєш все, Христе Боже наш,
і Тобі належиться всяка слава. честь і поклоніння
з безначальним Твоїм Отцем і пресвятим і благим
і животворним Твоїм Духом, нині і повсякчас, і
на віки вічні. Амінь.

Христос істинний Бог наш, що в Йордані
христитися зволив від Йоана спасіння нашого
ради: молитвами пречистої Своєї Матері, і всіх
святих, помилує і спасе нас, як благий і
чоловіколюбець.

За раба божого (рабу божу, раб Божих) (імярек)
даи, Господи, щастя, здоровя, успіхи у всіх своїх
добрих намірях, і збережи їх нам радості на
многая і благая літа!

of regeneration, and Who condescended to enter un-
der the roof of Zacchaeus, bringing salvation to him
and to all his house: As the same Lord, also keep
safe from harm those who dwell here; grant to them
Your blessing, purification and health of body; grant
all their petitions that are for their salvation and eter-
nal life; for You are blessed, together with Your eter-
nal Father and Your Most-holy, Good and Life-
creating Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
Amen.
And the Priest shall bless the whole house with Holy
Water, saying: When You, O Lord, were baptized in
the Jordan, * worship of the Trinity was revealed;*
the voice of the Father bore witness to You,* naming
You the "beloved Son,"* and the Spirit in the form of
a dove confirmed the Word's certainty. * Glory to
You, O Christ God, * who appeared and enlightened
the world.
And the Dismissal:
May Christ our true God, Who deigned to be bap-
tized by John in the Jordan for our salvation, through
the prayers of His Most-pure Mother and of all the
Saints, have mercy on us and save us, for He is good
and the Lover of Mankind.
Then the Priest proclaims:
Grant, O Lord, a prosperous and peaceful life, health,
salvation, and furtherance in all things, to Your ser-
vant(s), N., who dwell(s) here; and preserve him (or
her, them) for many years!
And those present sing: Many years! (thrice)

Beloved in Christ!

It has so happened that on the threshold of Christmas we have been witnesses to the International Conference in
Copenhagen on Climate Change. Delegates from all over the globe took part in these proceedings in order to deter-
mine together ways in which to avoid the catastrophe which today threatens the human race. In Copenhagen scien-
tists re-iterated that this threat has been caused by the selfish and careless stance of people towards their environ-
ment. For decades, if not for centuries, humans have been behaving like creators and actual owners of the world
around them, extravagantly exploiting and destroying nature. Hence today, after all this so-called “Stewardship”,
humanity has finally understood that we have put ourselves in great danger. Many of us now realise that we are not
the real owners or lords of our planet and that in fact nature is gift of God to humankind, a gift which needs to be
respected and used within reason. This is indeed what the Scriptures teach us: “Yahweh God took the man and set-
tled him in the garden of Eden to cultivate and to take care of it. Gn. 2:15
Dear brothers and sisters, over 2000 years ago our Lord, God and Saviour, Jesus Christ was born in the village of
Bethlehem of Palestine. This is indeed an extraordinary event, for God Himself, the Creator and King of the uni-
verse took flesh and human form and became one of us. His birth was a sign that humanity and everything con-
nected to it is so good that God’s own Son, though Whom everything came to being, and without Whom nothing
could exist (Jn 1:3), by his coming confirmed that all that God had created is good, even very good. (see Gn. 1, 4,
1Jh 3) By His baptism He sanctified the waters and the whole world, and by His death He conquered death – that
reality that we are most afraid of. Through His life, His teaching and His ministry He demonstrated Who is the true
Lord and Master of the universe. For ‘everything there is comes from Him, and is caused by Him and exists for
Him. To Him be glory forever. Amen” Rom 11:36
Dearly beloved in Christ, as we stand beside the manger of Christ at this festive time, let us ask for the gift of grati-
tude to God, since everything that we have, our life, our environment, our salvation, is God’s gift to us.
On the occasion of this great feast it is my wish that we would truly discern who we are in the eyes of God. We are
His beloved children who have been abundantly blessed and who on our part ought to always give thanks to our
Creator and Heavenly Father and to the newborn Jesus, our Lord and Saviour. We need to desire a respect for eve-
rything that our God bestows upon us.
At this holy time, let us strive to understand that the realization itself of the truth that all that comes from God is
good, is already another great gift of our Most Holy, Almighty God.
As I end my Christmas greeting, my sincere wish is that you may all have a true awareness of God’s love for us and
may your hearts always overflow with gratitude for this great gift!

One of the many traditions of our Ukrainian Catholic people is to have our homes blessed by the parish clergy with the
water which was blessed on the feast of Theophany. It is the intention of our parish priests to visit each of our parishion-
ers this year. They will call you before they come. Please welcome them!

Сповідь: Скористати з Тайни Сповіді можна
кожної неділі в часі Служби Божої.
Хрещення: Слід усталити дату з священиком не
менш як за місяць до запланованого дня хрестин.
Батьки і хресні мають виконати необхідне
приготування, про яке довідаються в священика.
Шлюб: Наречені мають вписатися в книгу на
вінчання заздалегідь, але не менш як за 6 місяців до
церемонії. За шість місяців наречені мають відбути
підготовчі бесіди із священиком. Принаймні один з
наречених, або їх батьки мають бути зареєстрованими
практикуючими парафіянами катедри, щоби вінчання
могло відбутися саме в катедрі св. Миколая.
Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з
Вашої родини, з будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в
лікарні й бажає щоб священик його відвідав просимо
повідомити про це парафіяльну канцелярію.
Федеральний уряд законом про втримання таємниці
(privacy law) , не дозволяє лікарній адміністрації
давати знати парафії. Це є відповідальністю паціента
або його родини.
"Нова Зоря" є єпархіальним місячником, що
подає відомості про всі єпархіальні новини, а також
новини з України. Ви можете сплатити річну
передплату, що складає 20 доларів, у парафіяльній
канцелярії.

New Parishioner Registration: We welcome all new
parishioners and are thankful God has sent you to St.
Nicholas Cathedral. Please register by obtaining a
registration form from the parish office or emailing your
request to:

Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy
or by appointment.
Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one
month prior to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors
must attend instruction prior to the baptism of their child.
Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to
make their arrangements early, but no less than six (6)
months in advance of the proposed date. Pre-marital
conferences must be arranged six (6) months prior to the
ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their parents
should be registered participating members of St.
Nicholas Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the
cathedral.
Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are
confined to home and are unable to attend Liturgy either
temporarily or on a continuing basis, and wish to receive
communion, please notify the parish office.
Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted
to a hospital for any reason and wish to have a priest
come to visit, please notify the parish office. Recent
federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to notify the
parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the
patient or family to notify the parish office.
The New Star is our monthly eparchial newspaper and
has information from all our parishes as well as from
Ukraine. The subscription cost is only $20.00 per year
and should be paid in the parish office.
