Remember to write the ODU honor pledge at the end of this table.

Read the directions in Blackboard on how to complete this sheet.

My name: Jacob Hall

Name of the tool Join.Me
Where to access https://www.join.me
this tool (web
address)
Brief instructions 1. Go to Join.Me website.
of how to use the 2. Create a free account
tool 3. Download the app.
4. Use either personal link or one time code to send to peers.
OR
Input code sent to you by peers.
5. Screens are now shared.
6. Once screens are shared everything done will be shown to those
in the session. Students may now work on assignments together.

Ideas for how the 1. This tool can be used in a middle school classroom to create a
tool can be used storyboard as an at home group project. For a history class, the
in PK-12 students could get together on Join.Me and work together on the
storyboard to create their own version of a lesson they choose.
This will allow them to take the lesson, and make it fun by
creating their own version of the story, while simultaneously
collaborating through the technology.

2. At home peer reviews can be done through Join.Me in any high

school level grade. Two students will have previously completed
their rough drafts for a paper. They can then email each other the
rough drafts and perform the peer editing. The final step will be
meeting over Join.Me. They will take turns streaming the paper
they edited on the screen where they can go over all the editing
they did verbally. This will help a lot by being able to discuss the
edits as they view them.

3. A math class in high school could use the program to have

students teach each other different concepts. Groups would be
assigned in class, and each student in the group would receive a
different problem. Each student would work out their problem
before an online meeting that they have. During the meeting, the
students would work out and explain the problem step by step to
each other.

Positives and Positives

challenges of 1. Students are able to directly see everything happening on each
using the tool others screens.
2. They can communicate while also seeing the work going on,
unlike Skype where you only see each other.

3. Videos and images can be used a lot easier through screen
sharing, compared to just voices or text.
4. It allows students to collaborate on a website that may not allow
multiple editors, such as some of the storyboard sites. They can
have one person, or take turns, typing, but the shared screen
allows everyone to contribute.

Challenges
5. Only one screen is shown at a time.
6. The people viewing the screen being shown cannot edit it.
7. This can result in a lot of switching between which screen is being
viewed. However, being able to see directly still has its benefits
and the switching can be alleviated through a Google Doc open in
the background.

TLED 430 Module 3
Collaborative Assignment
Ideas for how the 1. For a history class, a discussion board can be created with a topic
tool can be used relating to World War 1. Each student would have to create a post
in PK-12 at least 250 words long and then also comment on at least two
other posts. This would insure the students know the topic, as
well as foster a discussion between them.
2. For English, students will type a draft paper and post it on
Wikispaces. They will then have to go through and comment two
other students drafts. Both comments will include two positives
about the draft as well as two things that could be fixed.
3. The teacher assigns students into teams. The teams then create
a project about the cell reproductive cycle together on
Wikispaces.
Positives and Positives-
challenges of 1. The teacher can see when students log on and off the space and
using the tool see how much time they spend on the assignments.
2. Students can comment on both teachers and peers posts.
3. The teacher is able to see anything posted by students, and when
and where they posted it.
4. Assignments can be turned in through Wikispaces instead of by
hand.
Cons-
1. One person can only edit assignments at a time.
2. The school may not provide tech support.
3. If any work is copied, it may be harder to determine who copied
who.

5. Create a title for the post, and click create.
6. Share the link with students in your group.
Ideas for how the 1. In 10th grade English, a debate forum could be created. The topic
tool can be used could be based around current class readings. This will allow the
in PK-12 students to engage in an opinionated discussion with each other
about their readings.
2. This assignment is for an 8th grade science class. A question can
be presented on a brainstorm post. The students will then go onto
the post and each comment how they would apply the scientific
method to answer the question using an experiment.
3. A foreign language class can create a discussion board that
allows the students to engage in conversation using the
language. This allows them to practice in a much more relaxed
environment, as well as be able to help each other as they do.
Positives and Positives-
challenges of 1. The website is easy to make posts and then add various medias
using the tool to them.
