Second Term English Test

CLASSES: 2ASG1

Reading Comprehension: Read the text carefully. Then answer the questions:

For many of us, the concept of pollution is limited to nature. However, noise that tends
to disrupt the natural rhythm of life is a type of pollution. Noise pollution is defined as
sounds, or noises, that are loud, annoying and harmful to the ear. Noise pollution can come
from sources such as jet airplanes, constant droning of traffic, motorcycles, high-power
equipment, electrical machinery, or loud music.

Noise pollution is considered a real threat to the environmental health and requires a
legal intervention because it can be harmful. Loud sounds can damage the ear, not only in
humans, but also in animals. If the intensity of sound is very large, it can harm human and
animal ears, and do damage to physical structures. It can also cause hearing problems,
sleeping disorder, and cardiovascular diseases.

To reduce noise pollution social awareness programs should be taken up to educate the
public about the causes and effects of noise pollution. Factories and industries should be
located far from the residential areas.
