Primary Detailed Lesson Plan

Objectives: Students will:


sing and read pitches
perform and read rhythm correctly
play instruments correctly
actively listen to music
discover form
create music
move to music

Materials:
Class Lists
Rhythm sticks
Hand drums
Bean bag
Orff Instruments
Simon the song bird (Kinder and First only)
Non-pitched instruments
Smartboard
Recorders (5th grade)

TEKS:

1.2.A- The student is expected to sing or play a classroom instrument


independently or in groups.
1.3.A- The student is expected to read simple examples of music
notation

Kinder and 1st Grade :

Warm Ups:

Kodaly:

- Teach students sol mi and la hand-signs.


- Students will echo teacher using la sol miand do pitches
with hand-signs in a solo setting (for stickers) with help from
Simon, the Songbird

Rhythm: hand out rhythm sticks (red, and blue)

- Students will echo hum in group and solo.


- Students will echo rhythmic syllables using hand motions for ta,
ti-ti and rest (shh)
- Go down the line and have students repeat rhythms back to me.
Grouped in 6, (1-3 are the same as 4-6).
- Copy me / copy teachers rhythms with rhythm sticks

- Two Four Six Eight


o Review song with students.
I will say the words and have students echo each
phrase after me.
Sing the entire song by myself
Have students echo my singing with each phrase
Perform entire song by myself
Have students perform by themselves
Reading Rhythm:

- Bee-Bee Bumblebee ppt (with rhythm sticks)


o Students read bee icons.
o Students read icons to a beat.
o Students will play the rhythms of the names of icons with
rhythm sticks
o Icons are taken away, students speak rhythm symbols to a
steady beat.
o Students are chosen to write in the syllables in the icon (Ta
or Ti)
o Students will read rhythms to a steady beat and perform
with rhythm sticks.

2nd-4th Grades

Warm ups:

Kodaly:

Demonstrate all of the instruments rhythms (Drum,
triangle, orff)
o Students will perform on non-pitched instruments
individuals. Triangle first, then Drum, then orff.
-Define Syncopation to fourth grade

Fifth Grade:

- Were the students able to keep steady beat and echo basic
rhythms?
- Were the students able to sing la sol mi and do?
- Were students able to read sol mi and la from a staff?
- Were students ablet o read and play with rhythm sticks quarter,
rests, and eighth notes?
- Were students able to perform rhythm over a beat with
unpitched instruments?
- Were students able to follow direction and move to music?
- Were students able to describe jazz music? (Friday lesson)
