Stanley W. Finch

On July 26, 1908, Bonaparte ordered Department of Justice attorneys to refer most
investigative matters to his Chief Examiner, Stanley W. Finch, for handling by one of these
34 agents. The new force had its mission-to conduct investigations for the Department of
Justiceso that date is celebrated as the ocial birth of the FBI under the President
Theodore Roosevelt.

The FBI's major priorities are to:

Protect the U.S from terrorist attacks, foreign intelligence operations, and cyber-based
attacks
To combat public corruption at all levels and violent crime

Protect civil rights

Upgrade technology to successfully perform the FBI's mission

The major functions of the FBI are to:

Conduct investigations
Counterintelligence activities
Identify and investigate criminal and terrorist group intrusions
Develop new approaches, techniques, systems, and devices to improve law enforcement
James Comey has been the Director of the FBI since September 4, 2013. He is the
seventh Director of the FBI since its conception. Comey graduated from the College of
William & Mary and the University of Chicago Law School. He was a United
States attorney for the Southern District of New York. He became the deputy attorney
general at the Department of Justice in 2003. Comey also served as a vice president at
defense contractor Lockheed Martin.

In September 2005, the FBI created the National Security Branch (NSB) to detect,
deter, and disrupt national security threats. The NSB combines the missions, capabilities,
and resources of the FBI's counterterrorism, counterintelligence, and intelligence elements
under the leadership of a senior FBI ocal.
The FBI investigated Hillary Clinton's emails through a private server which may have
contained classied information. This was done to protect classied information from
being released, with national security in mind.
Budget
FBI's current Budget for the FY scal year of 2016 is about $3.9 trillion tax dollars. A
budget is as much about spending as it is about raising revenue, and individuals of the U.S.
fund the federal government through income taxes and payroll taxes

Agents work hard and contribute to protecting national security and stopping crime. But
the bureau also recognizes that their men and women have lives. So, the agency oers a
part-time program which allows an agent to work 16 to 32 hours a week
