“Rights Cannot Be Given To Girls They
Have To Earn It”

Introduction:

Every individual person has their own rights. It’s a legal entitlement. But in our male

dominated society women are not ensured their rights. There is a myth in society that their

male counterparts are unaware of women’s rights, but in actuality they just don’t want to give

women their rights. Simply put, the question arises as to why society is blaming males for

upholding their rights and not giving women a chance. In Bangladesh, a majority of the girls

are not conscious about their rights. Very few girls are aware but they are really few in

number. They are too dependent on the males in every sector of life. They are less interested

in technology and current affairs which are very important these days. Most of the women are

under the impression that males are superior to them. All these things lead them to the tunnel

of darkness. They should keep in their mind that in this dynamic world people are judged by

quality, ability and knowledge. Until and unless they change their mentality and concentrate

on make themselves self sufficient, the situation will not change. Women need to understand

that nobody will give them their rights; they have to earn it by sowing their ability.

Areas to be studied:

In my research I plan to investigate on a very important issue which is Women Rights. I will

mainly focus on women of Dhaka rather than rural women. For this reason I will concentrate

on the following questions.

• Are the women in our society aware of their rights?

• How are girls treated in the family?

• How do their families play a vital role in making them dependent?

• How does the social environment affect their mind from childhood?

• Are they self sufficient enough compared to boys of their age?

• How does society dominate them using “security” as an excuse?

• What’s their view on career and education?

• Are they confident enough to handle real life situations?

• Are they up to date with the current world and modern technologies?

• Are they interested in the social issues like politics, economics, etc?

• What’s their point of interest?

• How does society treat highly qualified women?

• Do people think in order to change the situation girls have to be dynamic and

educated?

Hypothesis:

From my past experience I’ve witnessed that girls are more likely to be dominated rather than

being self dependent. They like to lock up themselves in mere demands than focusing on self

fulfillment. A large number of girls in our society have a poor view about education. They are

being educated, but not for their enrichment. They are more likely to be educated in order to

get a good spouse. Even in renowned educational institutions, a large number of girls have

this type of viewpoint.

I think in this modern world girls have to be dynamic. They should be aware of their rights.

They should give up thinking like an imprisoned bird. One of the most important things is

that they have to change their view about career and education. After all without being self

dependent they can’t expect anything good. They have to keep in mind that rights are their
legal entitlement. Nobody can give them their rights until and unless they earn it by

themselves.

Research Methodology:

I plan to conduct a survey of representative sampling of the Dhaka city women on their views

about this issue. I will also conduct a survey among men about their views. For this I will

design two separate questionnaires for men and women with different types of questions

which will help me in my research.

For my secondary research I plan to use the resources on web, daily newspapers and journals.

I think books on women in the NSU library will also helpful.

I hope to interview one or two feminists who are working on this issue for a long time. Their

experience and knowledge would certainly shed light on my research topic.

To search the resources on web I think I will use Google, which is the most famous search

engine. I may use SPSS for statistical purpose and other software if required.

Timetable:

I plan to complete my primary research by the 25th of March and secondary research by the

first week of April. I shall complete writing the final draft of my research paper by 10th April

and submit it by the specified deadline towards the end of this semester.

Request for Approval:

I hereby request your approval for my research paper. I look forward to your suggestions

about my research. If you wish to modify or improve anything of my proposal please let me

know and I will resubmit it after necessary changes.
