and to feel for you the same love that
moved you to sacrifice yourself for us."

A Shepherd's View
Branches of palm are
symbols of Victory and Hope
as well as New Life! The
procession celebrating Jesus'
entry into Jerusalem over-
flowed with praise and
excitement, as onlookers
waved these triumphant
branches and proclaimed
their blessings! Yet, in a few
days, they will cry our, "CRUCIFY HIM !" The
crowds change of heart illustrates the problem of
holding God to our expectations. The crowd
expecting a liberating leader, the Messiah, to free
them from Roman oppression. Jesus instead
takes up his Cross and invites us to do the same.
Through His death and resurrection he is indeed
a liberator, but from Sin and Death, not from
Rome. But unable to see past their need, the
crowds disappointment turns into anger and a
death order. As we enter into the HOLY WEEK,
Palm Sunday teaches us to let God be God, and
to trust in God's wisdom not only to meet but
shatter and exceed our expectations.
Come and experience the dramatic and faith-
filled ceremonies of this week. Walk with Jesus in
his final hours, to his Cross and to the Tomb so
that we may rise with him to new life on Easter
Sunday!

Concluding Rites

The only time the word Mass is used in the sacred

liturgy is at the end: Go forth, the Mass is ended
means dismissal or sending. It was customary in
the ancient world to conclude an assembly with a
formal dismissal, and the early Christians did the
same, with the priest ending the liturgy with the
words Ite, missa est literally, Go, you are
dismissed.

The Church eventually named the entire liturgy

after this key word in the conclusion: missa. This ex-

encountered Jesus in the Eucharist, we are now sent
